Korg PA50SD Synth keyboard: A relationship where you do all the work

  • "A relationship where you do all the work" might sound weirdly irrelevant but that's how I felt about the Korg PA50. It's got great abilities, great potential, but it does nothing to help you access it. It's like the partner who promises you the world but then leaves you with every inch of the housework. I don't want to over-cook this analogy, so what I'm saying is: It sounds great but it's got no charm, no creative drive and provides no inspiration at all. If you want fun, you'll have to BRING it to the Korg PA50SD.

    At Indonesia, korg pa50 very familiar since15 year ago. For dangdut electone music or other Indonesian traditional music.

    Korg built lots of "newer" models based on this Keyboard.... The Microarranger The new I3, the EK-50 are all based on this Model... I owned this one for a while and was fun to play, but it did not make me smile 😊 Thank You Bro for Sharing

      No smile, exactly. Or at east not much of one, there are definitely funner machines out there.

    The cross fader is for mixing 2 midi files together not styles… only the new PA5X is the first keyboard to have a dual style player which can mix the two styles as they are playing in real time.

    I had no idea Korg made these types of home keyboards with the built in speakers . Nice sounds for sure . I'm guessing they would be pricey on the used market .

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  4 місяці тому +4

      Very under-priced, actually. I think the market is a bit uncomfortable with high-end synth engines attached to speakers. Pros want their own monitors, and amateurs just see it as more than they need. (imho, from what I've observed).

      Just my opinion but… I’ve always liked having built in speakers. Of course they’re never as good as when the instrument is amped. But sometimes you just need to practice a bit at home or travel light and you just don’t want to futz around with amps and external speakers and cables and connections etc. so a lil speaker can be nice bonus.

      Absolutely agree. Even just a little pair of reference speakers would be helpful on synths.@@jeffeason3599

    I use it in my church with 3 sounds mixed together. Analog Strings, Cinema Pad and Flute 2. I midi a Viscount Legend Expander to it to bring in a bit of organ and I control the vibrato Lesley affect with a foot switch. This set-up is to complement the piano, which someone else plays It's OK but nothing really exciting. I don't use any rhythms from it though. It does the job and looks big and chunky, so it looks OK. I have another keyboard above it with solo flute sounds through an effects pedal. The set-up is OK.... I only use it in the Sunday service, so I don't really know it well though, but I just stick to what works and this set-up seems to work well. Thanks for the video. And I loved that choir/pad sound you had starting on 01:27 I'll need to explore it more to find the name of that sound. Id love to use that sound as that is exactly the type of sound that I'm searching for. Anyone know what it's called? Thanks again and best regards. By the way, it's a long story, but my few music instrument videos are on this channel. www.youtube.com/@pidmjproductions986/videos Best regards

      Very pleased that you enjoyed the video. I don’t remember the name of that sound sorry, but you can search by category and choir is one of them 👍

      @@gearfacts Thanks for answering, I've been told that it is "Choir Pad". I will look for it next time I use it. And, one of the great things about this instrument is that you can stack 3 sounds on top of each other from any category and have a sound in the bass part using split. This makes it very versatile. Perhaps I'll do a video about it one day on my other channel PIDMJ Productions. Thanks again...

    Hi, I'm looking at a second-hand PA50SD, $400 NZ, i love korg and always wanted one, any cons to look out for, how does the action feel is it fully weighted keys I really like the stock pianos and e pianos, synchs etc

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  4 місяці тому

      The keys are very light-weight but I have to admit, $400 is pretty attractive

    Reminds me of our Korg M3. Looked awesome and beautiful, but sold it cause we found it really boring.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  4 місяці тому +1

      Interesting. I've never tried an M3 (or, shamefully, an M1) so based on that comment I won't be pursuing one!

      @@gearfacts Well. ya can try one if you want. Ours was an M3 Expanded which means it had the plug-in expansion board option as well. The M3's are pricey, but currently, half the price that they were in 2007, so, if ya could, just borrow one to make a demo/review. They were a hot keyboard a while ago, selling ours in about one day after my Uncle listed it for us.

    Where did you buy the Pa50sd from? Can you also do performance mode sounds demo?

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  4 місяці тому +1

      I bought it from a guy in Canberra, Australia. Another video about this board may be in the works ;)

    I mean for $50 I would buy it. I have the PA600QT which I paid $1095 retail when it came out in 2014 but I would not have paid so much had I known the limitations. The PA50 has alot of those same familiar presets especially the organ filter sound
