As a Vietnamese American, I can confirm that most of the Vietnamese people love it when you speak to them in Vietnamese. It shows them that you took time to learn their language and culture
شكرًاYou don't know how much this episode was very enjoyable for me. I loved this language as if it were the sounds of birds. You and them are very kind and friendly. By the way, I got a Vietnam visa and I am coming in two weeks. I hope to meet you. Thank you, my wonderful brother. I love you 💚
In 2007, when we holidayed in SE Asia, we stopped for 3 days in Saigon. We visited this market. We bought a pair of jeans for my husband, paid around £10 (at the time = $16). However, when we got back to the hotel, the jeans had been swapped for another pair of very low quality, lighter in colour and different shape.
Good video i think this is one of the better ones. A little bit of everything sprinkled in... This video had an objective - search for the fried bananas, educational in the aspect of cultural differences deflecting compliments to being humble and also genuinely engaging -that last segment with the 60 yr old dessert lady. Bravo!!!
Tip for you : there is another exchange counter inside the Bên Thanh market that gives you the same rate as Ha Tâm ( even better sometimes ) . Its name is Phuong Su . There is less people waiting in line and is more discreet .
I know you have set plans this time but for your next central Vietnam trip my favourite places are Dalat and Phong Nha, both quieter towns but full of interesting things to do. Ninh Binh, a couple of hours from Hanoi if you are ever up there.
Can't wait for your short Trip to other places in VN ! Btw , i traveled to HCMC 2 weeks ago , and hoped to see you any where on the streets there 🙏 i stayed very near Ben Tan in Dist. 1 .... i'm trying to learn Tieng Viet too , but i'm in the very first beginner Level Trời ơi 😅 Nice greetz from Germany to Tyler and Trang Next year in February i will come back to VN 🇻🇳🥰
You are a fun and funny guy. I was back in Vietnam 30 years ago..much younger. I did not appreciate it because all there was were noisy motorcycles and people selling food everywhere. It was too much for me. I did enjoy the country side though. Have fun !
Anywhere in the world. When you’re a tourist you’re the ATM on wheel . Sad but true 😔 respect for your Vietnamese language 👍 I wish I could be as good and fluent as you are 🙏👍👏👏bravo
Where do you buy to buy your cloths. I wear American XL in Vietnam equates to a 3 or w XL in shirts / T shirts. And 40” waist shorts or pants. We go to Vietnam about once a year for a month. Very hard to find cloths that fit.
yeah the big sizes aren't commonly purchased here so they are almost all exported...one place that you can find them is at the Russian Market in District 5 Saigon...I may make a video of that in the future
I used to struggle with the "flat" or "ngang" accent. A lot of people will try to explain that "this is how you would normally pronounce a word in your language". For me, the way I normally pronounce most words would be more like a "down" or "huyen" accent. If you pronounce English words in a completely flat accent it sounds very robotic and unnatural. I really struggled to produce accurate "flat" Vietnamese accents for a while and this was frustrating and discouraging, especially with the idea that this should be the "easy" accent to achieve. So a big thing for me was figuring this out, and the way I did it was understanding that to make a flat accent, I just need to elongate the vowel sound and the word a little more. If you make a long sound that doesn't change it's pitch, it will inevitably produce a "flat" sound. This is just one hurdle, there are a lot more. But I'd say, keep practicing, try not to get down on yourself (you're doing something most people have a very hard time doing [or just don't even attempt to do at all]), and don't be afraid to make mistakes. Ultimately the repetitions and consistency are important, and the mistakes aren't a sign of failure, they're a sign that you're getting closer to hitting your target.
My girlfriend and our kids are Vietnamese. I've studied the language on and off for a long time and know a lot of vocabulary, but I feel like I'm starting over each time. When I try to say something, no one really understands me because my pronunciation is off, even though I feel like I'm saying things correctly.

Its too bad that Vietnam does not have a retirement visa. I don't relish the idea of border runs. Thailand has become unstable with taxation. Can't afford Malaysia. Not too sure of Indonesia.
@@BigTimeBentley I dont absolutely like Kim Mai either and of course they have their own issues. I go to them because you get to go inside an establishment and not just standing on the street corner so it feels just a bit safer. Also I feel like their exchange rate is higher.
I am not a fan of Ben Thanh Market at all. Total tourist trap! I do like Saigon Square even though it looks like a tourist place I’ve gotten great bargains there, all about negotiating. And those shoe shine gangs are the worst. They travel in packs and prey on tourists, they’ll just drop down and start shining even your tennis shoes or flip flops. I’ve never gotten suckered in by those guys but they always try. Key is keep your feet moving. 😂
@bigtimebently, i dont do fb and didnt see a gmail link. wouldnt mind buying you a coffee or lunch when I'm in SG Nov 6-9th if you're free. also that animal was a CIVET i think. they eat the coffee and sh*t out :D
