I was at this game. My mom and dad got me tickets for my sixteenth birthday. One of my best gifts.

Rozier frequently played only two quarters. Sometimes he might get a series to start the second half, but he was frequently on the bench very early with the game well in hand. He was setting all of those records while playing for only half of a game. Absolutely electrifying player, and truly incredible to see in person. GO. BIG. RED.

Please find the highlights of that Oklahoma State game from 1982 his Junior year. I still think that was Mike's best game as a Husker. So many incredible runs. 251 yards rushing. Only 6 yards shy of breaking Rick Berns single game record at the time. He scored 4 Touchdowns and each of them was in a different manner. They could have kept him in on his next carry he might have gotten the 6 yards he needed, or he might have broken one 60 yards for a touchdown who knows? They took him out of the game. Also Rozier had 212 yards in the Snow up in Boulder. I'm surprised I can't find any highlights of either of those games.

Rozier was a truly great running back blessed with a truly excellent offensive line and quarterback. That's one heck of a recipe for success

Remember that there was allot of question rather Mark Traynowicz who was a converted tackle could adequately replace Dave Rimmington at Center on the 1983 squad. Traynowicz was 6"6". That's unusual for a center. But he had the two best guards in College Football next to him. Dean Stinekuler and Harry Grimminger. The Tackles weren't none to shabby either. All American Scott Rairdon and John Sherlock, who gave way to Mark Benning as the starter due to injury. Honestly, Grimminger had to replace Mike Mandelko who had been a great guard for us in 1981 and 1982. Sherlock and Benning had to replace Randy Theiss. Grimminger wasn't really expected to be the starter either in 1983 as a Junior. Most thought that Anthony Thomas would be the top guy. Thomas was a freak athlete and one of the strongest guys on the team. You may not realize that Mike was Running on a terribly beat up and worn downed field. That astro-turf what was left of it, was like playing on concrete. That's why the Huskers got a new field before the 84 season.

I really wish he would have gone somewhere else other than Houston in the NFL. That run&shoot offense had a lot of draws and delays in their playbook. Wish we should have seen him in a power running game. So strong, great vision, good speed, so quick!

Wow, it's been 41 years ago this week that Mike Rozier won the Heisman Trophy. Has it really been that long? Doesn't seem possible. There is an interview with him from only a couple months ago when he was in Nebraska for a signing. Dude is in phenomenal shape. Looks like he could still be playing football. You would never know he was a guy in his 60's. All muscle and tendon in a short sleeve shirt with no semblance of fat at all. I'll bet he could still Bench 350 easy. Rozier didn't pack on 60 pounds like Tommie Frazier did when his playing days were over. Nothing against Tommie mind you. I always felt that Rozier and Frazier's running styles were very similar. Tommie would have been a great I-Back.

I remember watching this at a car dealership, Fred Jones Ford, 41st and Memorial in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was raining there as well

Cool seeing this again. The most yards, but I never really considered this to be Mike's best game or even close as a Husker. I think he slipped on the field at least twice or he would have had a couple more long scoring runs. It boggles the mind to think what the 83 Scoring Explosion might have done on the brand-new Astroturf of '84. That field was so beat up and worn it was like playing on concrete. I think Rozier's best game was probably the one against Oklahoma State in 1982. Billed as a matchup between two of the nations top Backs, Rozier of Nebraska and Ernest Anderson for the Pokes. Mike ran for I believe 254 yards and scored 4 Touchdowns and made some of the most amazing runs I have ever seen by anybody to this day. Can't find any highlights from that game. The run where he trucked over their All-Conference corner and drove him some 5 yards deep in the endzone from about the 3 yard line still blows my mind. I think the Husker defense limited Anderson to about 86 yards. He's been averaging about 175 yards or more per game. I'd also like to see more highlights of the 83 Iowa State and both the 82 (which I saw live) and 83 K-State games if you can find them. Thanks much for the upload.

Looks like the Oline should have won the Heisman. i could average 6 yards a carry with the holes they were opening up.

Fair enough, Rozier was a great player and had a nice pro career, but Jesus, I could run for 100 yards behind that line and against that defense.
That 11 yard counter for a touchdown? My 9 year old could have scored on that.

This was not exactly typical Rozier, seldom did you see him have so many straight ahead runs up the middle. Usually he is dodging, darting around and bowling over defenders. Take a look at the 81 Oklahoma game which is on UA-cam in it's entirety. Mike had several runs where he looked more like a magician then a Running Back. Hit head on deep in the backfield by a defensive end, shrugged him off made a couple of quick cuts and almost broke it. On another carry, looked like he was hemmed in and going to be thrown for a big loss, cut all the way back across the field and eluded several guys. Both he and Roger Craig ran like men possessed in that game. Roger on a touchdown run plowed into the Linebacker at the goal line knocking the helmet clear off his head!
