Coolest bike shop ever, and the owner is a solid dude. This was a great video. 👍 Too many people try to create old school "museum" bikes, which doesn't make any sense to me. I have a Redline RL 20 and recently put on new Shimano PD-GR500 pedals that are light years better than the Shimano DX pedals from decades ago (which sell on ebay for a fortune). Bikes are meant to be upgraded and customized. In the early days of freestyle no one kept the bike as sold from the store, and most often just bought the frame and fork alone. Cranks were always upgraded, pedals were always upgraded, stem, bars, gripss, etc. The point is, freestyle bikes should be ridden, not sitting in a corner on a stand looking like a magazine ad depicting a bike no one actually rode. Don't get hung up on "era correct" parts, and most importantly, actually ride the bike 👍

Every bike has its place, if it’s over 10 years old and in great condition you should probably do your part in preserving the history, otherwise yea an older bike with some small issues I’d modernize all day

Phu, don't be afraid to fit a 1 1/8" fork in a old school frame. That works!, I brought back to life a haro sport 92, using an odissey fork.
I didn't machine cups (which would be great, maybe next time ).

      Hi mate,
I kept the cups (old tioga) into the haro sport frame. Then, I bought a standard 1 1/8 FSA headsets and 3/32 small steel balls (more than a dozen).
I put the race, cover cups and washers from the FSA headset into the fork.
Just add steel balls in order to avoid some loose in your set up.
      Hope that helps to you.

I’m old school and just hate the way small gears look. I’m doing a build on a mid-school XXL aluminum race frame for a lightweight neighborhood putt and was just looking at a 44/16 with a sealed freewheel classic combo or a 25/9 cassette to modernize it but I think the larger frame would look silly with the tiny little gears. I’m also a bigger guy (6’-1", 200lbs) so I think the extra points of engagement and distribution of load would be better with the larger combo. I don’t mind keeping a spare freewheel handy just I case a break one. I mostly just ride the local trails and just want something that is fun to ride and light enough to let an old guy get a little air now and then and I think the old school setup works better for my needs and preferences. I may try a 25/9 at some point, just not this build.

Funny thing is you can actually use the top and bottom racer from the fork to convert to Threadless. Sometimes you will luck out and be able to use the bottom race.. but all you have to do is gringo the threads out of the upper race. It will slide over the Threadless fork, and just use the rest of the hardware as usual. The forks will have about 3/32" of room to spin..it's tight but it will work 100%

Yeah I'm trying to figure out how I can open up the mounts on my rear wheel from a 3/8" axle to accept a 14mm axel I want this new KHE 9T cassette hub instead of the old skool 16T cog I got a new 3 piece crank with sealed bearings and the upgraded cups to drop the old one piece crank and ball bearing sets its turned out awesome. I want the 9T driver to fit on my old ass rolds royce union. It's totally doable. I'm about to take either a file or a grinder to the mounts and yeah my 2.35 tires just barely squeeze in my old skool frame

Will a Shadow Supreme chain fit on an old school bike with a 44 tooth sprocket up front, and a 16 tooth rear sprocket? I'm afraid the chain will be too short.

I've lugged around my Pro Performer since 6th grade. Took it to a body shop to have it painted and it looks so bad I've never put it together. One of these days

Okay, I have thought about doing these type of things for a while. I had an idea for the 1" headtube and fork issue and I'd like to know what you guys would think: there are 1" headtube BMX racing parts and frames out there. So, I thought about getting a 1" standard style headset, with 1" Threadless forks, and a 1" stem to convert the front end completely to Threadless without changing bearing size or using a gooseneck or any wedge parts at all. Great video as always!!
