Day and date on PC is going to hurt their console and game sales because ppl will just wait for the PC ports and others will migrate there as a result. Look what happened to Microsoft once they started putting things on PC day and date

They don't need to do day and date, with the potential of D&D eating into their console sales. They can shorten the window but D&D is at this point nonsensical....

Sony doesn't need to focus on PC. Sony needs to renew and keep their focus on their console. Yes, I love having PlayStation exclusives on PC; however, I don't need these on PC at launch.
I can easily buy a PlayStation if I want to play their exclusives, but I need Sony to ensure that they are worth trusting with my hard-earned money. Sony should *only* release select titles on PC after they have reached their sales potential on the console first and they are properly optimized and ready for a PC release for extra revenue.

So PlayStation suffers from long time development process and high budget, but they want to release their games day and date on PC which means more developers more development time and cost more money. How does that even make sense?
And there is a serious question that need to be asked, which is does Sony really care about selling more hardware or more software because you can’t have both at the same time.
If you want to sell more software, then go full third-party if you want to sell hardware then you need exclusive games

Facts! another reason games need to stay exclusive even longer. gingy did a video about returnal and how he wanted and was going to get a ps5 but then he saw it was coming to PC so he waited that is what PC gamers do across the board they play whatever BS is out and then when a big sony game comes they may by it or pirate it but they'll definitely give a few hours of playtime at the least. again PC games do not make playstation how ever if sony cares too much for getting a bigger PC foot print they will get broken by the PC community If they cant see it just based on the simple fact of signing in to a PS account had their games getting review bombed and losing concurrent players then sony is destined to fail.
It's not the hardware itself but they do want to get the hardware out there so people can invest into PS Store, and get a 30% cut from devs, which is what makes the most money for PS by far..
I think they will continue with the current strategy, even more now knowing PC gamers don't want to create a PSN account, and if they focus too much on PC many loyal PlayStation customers will jump ship for sure, and losing those would certainly hurt the brand more than losing that PC profit

This will be the downfall of good new games, new ways of developing games and new techniques to get things out of the consoles that don't exist on the PC because no one is investing the energy there.

Not a single studio will take the time to optimize for high end PC hardware. They are to few and don't buy games like that to make it worth their while.
PC masterrace has to wait for PS5 ports to get something to brag about. Look at HFW that was a 3 year old PS5 game and that hardly looks any better on a higher end PC!

At this point, I’m ALREADY INVESTED in the PS5 so them going day and date on PC wouldn’t really change ANYTHING for me in the short-term.
But on a longer timeline? Yea, I can’t say with any certainty that I’d get the PS6 and so on.
If they intend to keep the console a priority, I think this would possibly prove to be a grave mistake for their brand in the long-term in exchange for some small profit and market growth in the short-term.
Business segment meeting on may 30th is where we get a look into future from playstation.
Also bend was supposedly working on a uncharted game till 2021 so that's why bend's game is far away because it's still in pre production.
Best case scenario for sony first party games is how they expand to having two team strategy - which means when 90% of the studio is working on a game at full production then a small team (10%) is working on the pre production of the next game so when the current game finishes the next one is ready to move into full production and so on ----- which is exactly what they are doing now ( so that is a good thing) but yeah looking forward to the business segment meeting on 30th very much.
Totally get what you mean but Miles is not AA. Though it may cost $50 retail, it had more than double the budget of Rift Apart. Double the budget of Horizon zero dawn and Ghosts. Triple Alan wake 2 budget. (156 million) according to insomniac leak. In sonys Investors' relation documents, it's listed under "AAA portfolio". So I think the industry classifies AAA on budget not the retail cost of the game.
I don't see playstation going day and date until they have their own storefront on PC. Even then, I don't think it's worth losing the players who would migrate to pc.

I don’t think it’s just “day and date PC”, it’ll be some of that, but also PlayStation content on the their phone, handheld, and tvs. Mobile makes up so much of the market and PS has barely any of it, that’s where the money is
If they do I'll still play on ps5, i like plug and play, the UI, controller and games!! But going day and date on PC is a mistake. Exclusives matter look at the best on consoles in the past 25 years and look at Microsoft after day and date then lool at the switch!! That's a fact!!

Dreamcast had tons of exclusives and still failed so did the GameCube and PS Vita and Wii U. Casuals drive sales more than anything

I doubt PC day and date is coming. While it benefits gamers, what is the benefit for Sony? I am a developer and have two very powerful gaming-capable PCs at home, I'd love if they went day and date on PC as it give me, as a consumer, more options, I just can't see it happening as overall it's bad for Sony.
Here are my thoughts:
* Firstly, Playstation wants people in their ecosystem, that means people are buying accessories, paying for Playstation Plus subscriptions etc.
* Steam takes 30% of the revenue of any titles sold. So even if a third of the people that currently would have bought the game on PS5 now buy it on Steam instead, that's 10% revenue lost on every game release.
* Game piracy is also a huge problem on PC. Many gamers would rather choose to play a game for free over paying for it. Based on a single game release, the ratio was over 5 copies pirated per single copy sold on PC. A recent survey showed that 35% of PC gamers pirate games rather than buying them, and most games get cracked on release day. Many Playstation gamers also have gaming PCs, and are pirates that would have bought the game on Playstation if it wasn't available 'for free' on PC. Overall, you're losing a lot of money to piracy by going day and date on PC.
* Being multi-platform also increases development complexity, it's easier to get the game running well on a single platform and then getting someone like Nixxes to port the game later on.
* There will also be quiet periods where Sony aren't making much on their first party titles, this is the perfect time to do some PC ports to bring in additional revenue over these quiet periods, which allow them to smooth out their financials so it looks good for investors.
* By occasionally releasing a game on PC, those gamers will see the quality of the games on Sony's platform, and knowing they can play these games a couple of years early by owning a $500 PS5, they will start investing in Sony's ecosystem which can turn them into dedicated customers in the long run, this benefits Sony all the way.
* Finally, there are many gamers that own a PC and prefer to play on that platform, but they own a Playstation simply to play the exclusives. If Playstation exclusives go away, those gamers would have no reason to buy Playstation hardware or subscribe to Sony's services.
While going day and date is consumer friendly, overall, it's bad for business and I can't see Sony going down that route. They want people inside their ecosystem where games can't be pirated, where 100% of the revenue goes to them (not Steam), and they get to sell you overpriced accessories and subscriptions which bring in a lot of money.
Not unless they're prepared to spend a lot more money on development because in order to make their games go day and date, they are either going to have to...
A.) Significantly add to the dev time it's going take to develop PS5/PC simultaneously or...
B.) Buy or create more dedicated studios to port all these games to PC simultaneously.
Possibly it will come in the future eventually but I don't think they have the logistics figured out for that just yet. I would be shocked if they actually do but we shall see.
Playstation can do 4K cloud gaming. THAT came out of nowhere as well. It being superior to xcloud at that! So never say that they "lack logistics" to do this or thar again.

Same could be the case with a day and date approach from them. Dont underestimate them in this regard. Sony keeps getting bent over backwards with PC, and they keep taking and supporting PC.
Not like they have much a choice the games sell well but apparently the investors want more. I'm not saying you guys don't buy games but not enough of you do in some cases. Square Enix saying no to PlayStation exclusivity and Sony's PC strategy is very solid evidence of that. PC isn't a threat to PlayStation though the console gamers will still be there and it's just another revenue source for them.

If Sony want to collect market data on day & date, now is a good time because PS5 is in the clear. They can always reverse it at the start of PS6 if it goes sour.

Day and date on PC would severely damaged PlayStation, just like it did when Microsoft started putting games on PC day and date. Now look at Xbox nobody cares about that dead platform. If Sony starts to put their games day and date on PC I will not buy the PlayStation 6, I buy about 20 to 30 games a year on PlayStation and I’d have no problem buying those games from steam and Sony won’t get a cut of none of the money. Sony better start worrying about there platform and get their games of PC before it’s too late.

There are currently 118million active playstation users, the ps5 n ps4 users are similar and ps3 still running a few... PS5 will continue growing as the ps4 user base decline, it's very simple if you lived through many generations of gaming...
Can we admit that Jim Ryan wasted Sony resources, kept the lineup dry and was just corporate plants like Phil Spencer and Hideaki Nishino.
The day they even announce that I am 100% done with my ps and selling it literally just like I did with shit box when they first announced games were going to pc. I already felt like this was my last gen system any way with them constantly finding ways to make it utterly pointless when pc will always be the best platform to be on but this would easily make that choice. All I would have to think of is the pc and my nintendo systems because at least they don't make their systems utter pointless to even turn on and get more than one game a year from the main studios lol.
Day and date PC isn't what hurt Xbox, it's day and date Gamepass thats the issue because nobody is buying the games when they launch. Sony shouldn't do day and date PC, but Sony games don't launch in a service, people pay full price for them so it's different.

Day and date PC is a mistake and I know the only ones advocating for it are PC players who spend too much money on their hardware when they could have spent significantly less on a PS5. Sony should honestly refocus on their studios and have a more aggressive marketing strategy similar to what they did back in the Second half of the PS3's lifespan along side the PSP's marketing. It worked and helped sell more PS3 where it ended up just selling 360 in the second half of that gen. Also they should force GameStop and other retailers to offer higher trade in Values for their PS4s and XBOX Ones towards a purchase of a PS5s. This would help out those and incentivise gamers still on PS4 to make the jump to PS5
PC gamers better watch out. Sony was taking Xbox's cornbread. It's probably cheaper for them to make devs drop the PC version later.
I don't think they're going to do day and date. Now, I'm completely aware that anything could happen in the future. But seeing as how, among other things they primarily sell hardware, I believe they want to prioritize their own platform first. Kenchiro Yoshida stated that PS will remain the "core product" while expanding to other platforms such as mobile and PC. Hiroki Tikoki also wants IP to grow along multiple platforms like PC and mobile. The current strategy pretty much echoes their aspirations for the PS platform. What we might see is the acceleration of the current strategy, or simply just a continuation of it. The recent financial reports suggested that Sony wants to "enhance PC port deployments" while investing into a richer pipeline of first party software. I interpret that as more first party = more PC ports to be done. (Not on day 1 except live service games/certain remasters and/or Remakes)

Its a fucking hassle to many working parts. I remember me and friend trying to get controllers to work to play SF5 needless to say we spent a few hours configuring and downloading BS to get them to work.

This will be a big mistake. The console and PC player markets are pretty distinct and many prefer consoles for the home entertainment factor and convenience, but you still risk that a lot of players will start thinking what's the point of buying a playstation and going PC instead.
They should just hold out a while longer. If Xbox goes out of the console space they won't need to do this and they should just be cutting the budgets of the big games instead. More like Nintendo.

PC day and dat or going multiplats only adds to development cycle... If bew IP takes more than 7 years to make as exclusive, you gonna add like about 2 more years for multiplats. If sequeal can go as fast as 3 years for exclusive, add another year or 2 for multiplats. We're gona get less and less games from Sony, frequency wise.

The damage is already done for me now PlayStation is no longer doing showcases the brand is tarnished now it has no identity if they just put on the horizon games and live service I could live with that but Uncharted,TLOU,GOW and Ratchet ? No I won’t be investing in a sixth console and am opting to drop support via buying games used moving forward

In my opinion is a good thing Sony wants to bring all their games to PC and this good because there is a chance they will bring all games from PS2, PS3, PS4 games and make money from PlayStation Consoles Gamers and PC Gamers with less risks. But bringing their new PS5 games same with PC could be good also. The problem with Microsoft is they haven't made any good games, I like Starfield not perfect but I still like the storyline, a lot of PC Gamers do like PlayStation and thats a win for Sony

The strategy is easy. Make lower budget games. IDK what's this obsession they have with graphics. I mean, a couple of high budget games to showcase the PS is fine, but the rest should go on the lower end of AAA. Baldur's Gate III costed only $100 million to make and it looks pretty damn good, and that's like 1/3 the budget of PS games. I think the $100 million dollar budget is the sweet spot to make the companies and gamers happy.
