Clive's drumming sounds so natural, warm and lively... Nicko's drumming sounds cold, thin and dead. He is just elegant. I'm dying out of luck and happyness that Clive was able to stay for making the 3rd album, Number of the Beast. I would not forgive if Clive was replaced in 1982 and Nicko ruined this album with his affable crappy drumming
+Hard Rock yep, and I don't care if Nicko was perfect and had better skills, it's not about this. Clive was fitting this band the most. Way more distinctive than Nicko. Really unique. Natural beast. Nicko was just elegant. Clive was a major contributor to Iron Maiden's success. But alcohol ruined him:( It's a similar story to the story of the first drummer of Europe, who was fired in 1983, but was a beast at the drums, his drumming was heavy and wild as fcuk
Shows what a sick drummer Clive Burr was. As well as doing phenomenal technical stuff, he had an incredible innate natural groove that couldn't be taught.
Keep rocking my friend. I love Clive and love your dedication to him. When I teach which is not as much these days I always tell my students to listen to Killers
I stood against the stage in a club on Maidens first US tour, couldn't believe how fast and good Clive was, amazing drummer. Then of course the drumming on Piece of Mind was such a let down, the energy had left Maiden's drums.
Great job on Another Life! On Wrathchild if you want to really play it like Clive it's two hands on the hihat during the verses. Most people don't do it that way because they can't. My drum teacher included. I prefer Nicko's way of playing that song and I will tell you why. The reason Clive didn't last in Iron Maiden is because he set his standard so high in the studio, especially on Number of the Beast, that he couldn't maintain it on the long grueling tour that was Beast on the Road. He set himself up for failure. As a drummer in three different past Iron Maiden tributes I've studied both drummers intensely.
I saw video of CLive playing verse with one hand! Btw, I really prefer CLive's ideas and style! I don't know anything about his problems on live, being on tour is really difficult and I know!
@@EdoSalaDrummer I think he played the intro two hands on the hi-hat then maybe one hand during the verse parts. The guy had amazing dexterity and endurance.

This is great lesson.... Thank you so much! Clive Burr is in my Greatest Drummers list. So unique and innovative... This video really helps break down these incredible drum parts. Clive Burr was ahead of his time. R.I.P. Clive Burr
Edo Sala Did Clive play double strokes or singles on the snare intros into ‘Murders in the Rue Morg’ and ‘Innocent Exile?’ I have always played singles, but always wondered...
Edo, yes very easy to tune right out of the box. I ordered mine online so it came in several boxes and pieces. I had to assemble the whole drums set. Best kit I've ever had.
Complimenti.
It is no coincidence Iron Maiden went to sh*t after Number of the Beast. "He brought punk drumming to metal." Dave McClane. Who had the bass line in their head on Killers. Some nice snare work on Killers. Unlike a lot of other drummers at that time never afraid to to accent using open/closed hi-hat. Something which Tommy Lee would become recognised for a little later.
I don't think about s**t, I like some Maiden's stuff with Nicko but Clive was an another level. Levels of ideas, sound and accuracy. A lot of great drummers recognised him as an idol!!
Edo Sala I completely agree. I did not like Piece of Mind. I liked a few songs off Powerslave but that was about it for me. I did not like much after that but that is just personal taste.
Wrong. Clive's rolls were like Buddy Rich first. On Killers, it's "boom boom boom tap, boom boom boom tap with full flams on the rim. Your a little off on other parts but you did pretty good. And yes i played for 30 years and Clive was faster bro. Up the irons. RIP Clive, he was the best drummer Maiden ever had" Bruce Dickinson's words
Edo Sala obviously, Yes the hardest to master, Buddy was the best, and let's not forget Clive was about 23 years old then when he did these songs. At 50+ year's old with decades of practice and the talent sure we can copy these songs. .
