Well I got it for myself and sadly have to wait 1-3 days until it finally arrives. The games will be most likely Final Fantasy XV which I couldn't play until now, Resident Evil 4 Remake and then probably some emulated Games like The Legend of Zelda the wind waker, Pokemon Grand Colosseum and Shadow Hearts 2
Got a steam deck cause I was going to be a month and a half overseas and wanted to keep up with my gaming while away from home… I heard it was great but honestly was blown away by just how much the deck can do and even serve as a replacement PC while on the go. Never having used Linux before there was a bit of a learning curve to installing non-steam games and apps, but the community behind the deck is so huge theres a tutorial for literally everything and in no time I was playing emulated Wii, PSP and Switch games, at a better framerate and resolution than on the original consoles. I even i stalled Genshin Impact and FFXIV to keep up with my dailies on the go lol. Its an absolutely amazing handheld, hands down the best Ive ever owned, and it has completely changed my view of gaming on Linux. And if you are considering getting one… definitely get the OLED, the screen is staggeringly good for gaming and movie watching.
I don't have a Steam Deck, but I've definitely been considering it because I absolutely love handhelds hence why I have a lot of them like a PSP, different DS systems and different Gameboy systems, a Switch and even an emulation handheld. So the Steam Deck seems right up my alley. Hell the other hand held PC systems like the ROG Ally X, Legion Go and whatnot seem intriguing too. All that aside, this was a great step by step video on setting up the Steam Deck. I also really love Retro Game Corps' videos. His videos are fantastic when it comes to learning about different devices. In fact it was his videos that encouraged me to get a Retroid Pocket 3+.
It looks like the OEM market has realised that Windows doesn't work that well, especially on handheld, so they're porting hardware tweaks and patches to the Linux kernel. That combined with Steam OS tweaks means you won't even need a special install like Bazzite to make an Asus Ally run SteamOS but you'll be able to install plain old SteamOS straight onto those other gimped handhelds
I love the steak deck for what it is and its power. Definitely the type of device you save up for little by little throughout the year. Put $25 on the side every week in a secret place and you’ll have enough for it by the end of the year without putting a single dent in your bank account.
0:39 is kind of misleading. Most games with multiplayer work fine. It's mostly competitive games that run into issues (but not limited to competetive) and even then, there are almost always workarounds (although they can be impractical, such as cloud gaming via geforce now or installing windows OS).
Even the compatibility marker he mentioned is inaccurate at times, ProtonDB is faster and more accurate than Steam's official rating a lot of the time. I would personally say to install Decky Loader and get the ProtonDB plugin, which also shows the ProtonDB label and lets you go to the game's rating page to see any community made comments or setup instructions.
*to play anti cheat protected multiplayer games on steam deck, you can do 2 things* 1: dual boot the steamdeck so you got both steam OS and windows at the same time 2: forget the steam deck and buy instead lenovo legion go and then do the step 1 on that console instead, since steam deck runs horribly on windows
First thing you should do is check your button inputs in the settings menu to make sure everything is running as it should. There is a know issue affecting the LEFT TRIGGER. I got a faulty unit and Steam replaced in no hassle but it took about 2 weeks to get my new unit.
Also install decky loader which is software that lets you install plug ins you can use in gaming mode. BTW there’s an option to install decky loader during the emudeck setup which will save you a step.
Bro what a coincidence I just got a stem deck for christmas 😂 . I been playing alot of kingdom hearts on the deck . This is such a good video thanks for the advice
Out of all the months I have had my steam deck, I have never once thought about trying emulation on it. (totally not lying because I am too lazy to try and put emulators on it 😁)
I'm a PS5 guy, never had a steam account but wife ordered me a Steam Deck Oled for xmass it hasn't even arrived yet and I've already backlogged myself from the steam sale... Deus Ex Complete collection, The Orange Box, Black Mesa, Fallout New Vegas complete edition, GTA 4, Max Payne Collection, Skyrim Anniversary and The Witcher Collection (I know a couple of these need a little work to get playing, but £4 for 1 game or £7 for the whole collection I just can't refuse 😂) hope it comes next week.
Got mine four days ago and realized that installing battlenet is a pain in the butt. I got diablo 4 on there plus the DLC. But I coud not be f'd trying to do all these tricks just to get battlenet on my D. And I really wanted to play D4 on my brand new D so I bought it and its DLC for the second time.
That steam deck verified symbol doesn't mean much. I've ran into a game before saying it's verified and it still needed Proton for it to run correctly. The game had frame rate issues before using proton and it was a simple 2D RPG game.
Advanced tips when you're ready install cryp utilities 2 itll give you very marginally performance upgrade but worth it. Install chiaki the unofficial remote play app for PlayStation. And dont buy micro SD cards that go well over 100mbs the deck limits sd card reader to that so ab example is yes get the SanDisk extreme 1tb but don't buy the SanDisk extreme pro 1tb the extra pro performance is wasted on the deck.
If you have a decent chunk of change, buy and build yourself a gaming pc. If you have a few hundo then get a steam deck. Or put your money in a Roth IRA
Steamdeck is basically a budget PC running on Linux, you can hook it up to a monitor, keyboard and mouse and just use it like a PC. Theres a bit of a learning curve installing non-steam games a d software to run in desktop mode, but nothing you cant learn just following some tutorials, so in that sense Steam Deck is an easy way of dipping your toes into the wealth of PC games out there. If you do have money to burn though… getting a big 4k monitor and a beefy PC rig that can run games on it will blow your mind and is, imo, the ultimate gaming experience.
@nasi-c3s hahaah we all gotta start somewhere bro xD bookmark the steamdeckpirates subreddit, not cause they tell you how to play games for free on the deck but because unironically they have the best tutorials around for getting any game to run on the steam deck, great and very helpful community.
Do not get only SD. Get a pc or console too. The SD has big unreported issues with black screens and other issues from bios erased while mandatory updates. Its been happening since launching. Oled model too. Seems to be at random times...some have access to their buttons , others only touch part of screen works. Every update...a few unlikely sd always go down. If it is your main pc....12 to 15 months before major issues, but does happen right out the box with alot . So many People on forums with this issue, but not many speaking on it in here.
Here is a tip for all of you who want to play call of duty on the toilet if you get a micro sd plug it in you can download windows on it and dual boot your steam deck (i don't recommend it but I just want to tell people there is a way)
Step one. Install Decky, Step 2 Install Emu deck(with all the lovely [1""""""""""""""""("""""Legal"""""")""""""''''""""""1] Games you have.), Step 3 Install Proton DB Badge decky plugin, Step 4 Install EVERYTHING and learn the hardway the Steam deck Verified means NOTHING with Proton in Play. Step 5 HAVE FUN hard part over.
Remember ALL of ATari-N64 games take up..... Maybe 10 GB... Go ham on Cart Games. CD games be picky as each start at 768MB-8GB Each... and lets face it PS3 games area pipe dream on Deck for space along coming in at 20-50GB per disc But Switch?.... Switch games are Free Real estate. and Soon wont be a pain to setup... 3DS games too. ps4/xone? SOON but at this point there is so few games that aren't on steam anyway.... soooo. Go Get GOG and the Heroic Game Launcher. GOG is A great ALt for steam for games too and wont have many issues beyond Proton Compatibility.
If you got a Steam Deck this holiday season, what games are you gonna be playing into the new year???
Grounded and Phasmophobia mainly since A. They’re multiplayer games and B. My old laptop couldn’t run them. (Good anyway)
......Postal 2 😅
Well I got it for myself and sadly have to wait 1-3 days until it finally arrives. The games will be most likely Final Fantasy XV which I couldn't play until now, Resident Evil 4 Remake and then probably some emulated Games like The Legend of Zelda the wind waker, Pokemon Grand Colosseum and Shadow Hearts 2
Metal gear rising and rdr2
Helldivers 2 and Ultrakill
I've had a Steam Deck for so long, but I always come back to your videos because the quality is amazing, and I find it entertaining.
That’s awesome! Thanks for coming back 🙏
same here

Great video bloody Bob 😂
That’s amazing I’m so jealous the white deck looks beautiful! And yes Bob doesn’t pick up ever 🫠

It's mostly competitive games that run into issues (but not limited to competetive) and even then, there are almost always workarounds (although they can be impractical, such as cloud gaming via geforce now or installing windows OS).
Yea I meant just those multiplayer games I made this in a few hours so I didn’t have time to edit that part lol

I got a steam deck for christmas this year and I mainly play skyrim and borderlands

Merry Christmas!! Glad you liked it 🤝
Out of all the months I have had my steam deck, I have never once thought about trying emulation on it. (totally not lying because I am too lazy to try and put emulators on it 😁)
omg youre missing out!!! find the motivation brother and set up emudeck its worth it
@@JerryMeehanJr You know what, doing it. Currently doing my research on the emulators and "doing more research" on game ROMS
should have it done in a good minute
Enjoy!!
An easy way to play retro is with Batocera. Plenty of guides here on yt. I use it all the time 😊
I'm a PS5 guy, never had a steam account but wife ordered me a Steam Deck Oled for xmass it hasn't even arrived yet and I've already backlogged myself from the steam sale... Let's GOOOOOO
Visual novels and dating sims and Eroge on steam deck Making Lovers by Nekonyan and Smee is a great start
Keep up the good work
🤙
Still enjoying playing multiplayer star wars battlefront👌👌
Trying to get emu deck up and running.. bout to pull whatever hair I have left out lol.
Its worth it take it slow.
Is there a reason to use EmuDeck over RetroArch?
I like the way the menu looks and it was easier to set up
i'd recommend a bigger ssd as well instead of getting an sd card as my steam deck has killed my sd card.
Got mine four days ago and realized that installing battlenet is a pain in the butt. I got diablo 4 on there plus the DLC. 4k plus views🎉🎉🎉 congratulations mr beast 👏 💪
cranking out a quick one rn
Do I want to know what you’re cranking out…
Halo MCC has an option to turn anti cheat off on startup and play multiplayer on the steam deck!
That steam deck verified symbol doesn't mean much.
I've ran into a game before saying it's verified and it still needed Proton for it to run correctly.
The game had frame rate issues before using proton and it was a simple 2D RPG game.
Love his neurotic animations and grating voice!
Replaying Wildmender, which sucked up most of my day. Next will be Hades 2 early access and Chants of Shannar.

even though I'm never gonna own one, I still enjoy these vids (is there an email I could use to send you a small message I don't wanna send in public)
Great vid, I have a ps5 and a switch, do I get a pc or a steam deck?
If you have a decent chunk of change, buy and build yourself a gaming pc. If you have a few hundo then get a steam deck. Or put your money in a Roth IRA

Under an hour gang
🤙
I’ve been trying to emulate and it’s been so difficult for me and I don’t know why
Watch the video I put in the description retro game corps explains step by step it’s not hard!
All multiplayer games can be played
Not multiplayer games with anti cheat software
Dang, sadly i wanted a steam deck but my parents just didnt liked that so…. You know i didnt got the steam deck:(
Are you stalking me?

play bloodborne.
Retro game “corps”? Lol
Shit lol hahahah
Such a bad video
Thanks for watching 😇
I was stuck between an asus and steam deck and I’m so glad I picked a steam deck over that, thank you for making me knowledgeable at bout steam deck🫡
