Hi folks and once again thank you so much for checking this video out , in this one i take one of my favourite bikes out and surprisingly it didn't really live up to expectations although nothing really bad about it just not quite the experience i expected but hey ho can't win them all .

Shaun, the lack of dedicated back light is the main reason I'm not changing my r1250gs for the new 1300. I really think it's dangerous, I've followed several GS'S With the integrated system and its really difficult to see indications. Plus I want as big a rear light as o can get... Especially ad I carry the most precious person in this family, the wife and mother of our children😁😁😁😁

The grabby clutch feeling is due to the hill start that is turned on and set to auto. Hence why you felt it grabby and other times you don't...depending on the incline. I set mine to manual, which is only triggered my handful of brake to set it and another handful to disengage or just driving off (grabby feeling).
Dealer said it was cold box oil common issue with the xr don't get me wrong it's not the end of the world and only happened once all day , i had hill hold on my old 1250gsa and it was fine , it felt like clutch springs where to soft
Ive not long got back from around 160 miles today. Because I promised me grandson a day out. Me fully heated up. Him just the basic gear on . I came back freezing. He said he ok . I wish I was young again
Haha i hear u I've never really been 1 for feeling the cold but my hands seem to be getting worse in my older years 🤣
Hi Shaun I had a XR for a day when my GS was being serviced earlier this year, I had the same issue with the seat, didn't like the seat and for me kind of spoiled the bike, but, I think the 'new' versions have a different seat that allows some 'wriggle' room.
Yeah apparently they've addressed a few of the issues on the 2024 model
Mine is a 2020 version. Love it!

I owned a new 22 plate between aprill 22 and sept 22 couldnt get on with it i put 3500 miles on it list of issues seat horrible vibes top heavy footpegs get in way of legs when stationary no guts in bottom end poor fuel economy. Traded for gsa never looked back
Tbh didn't really feel the vibe thing but defo wouldn't swap 1 over a gs , good fun bike though

While backlit switch gear, would be nice! I’d hardly call it dangerous. Can’t believe it’s not on every bike these days, tho.

U mean no single back light instead of integrating indicators , lights and brake lights in the same unit as no1 has mentioned back lit switchgear

Agree about the back light being a bit naughty, tho! Got the same problem on my GS! Thinking about those, indicator upgrades from a bike thing.
Hi Shaun hope your well, nice looking bike I'm no bike expert I thought BMW were shaft driven not chain. I be it motors well ,is it going to be comfy enough for you on your longer rides like travelling to the Pondarosa on the Horse shoe pass or up to Betws-y-coed or even your trip to Moto in France. but saying that it dose look the part, hope you get what you want. Ride safe and take care🏍👍
Tbh local rides would be fine but defo wouldn't like to be in that seat all day in the middle of summer .... bmw shaft for tourers / chain for the rest of em 👍
When I first sat on one of the first generations of that bike o found the seat too sculpted and you sat in it rather than on it. How did you find it mate? It put me off it a little bit. 😢😢
Yeah absolutely u sit in the bike and once there no wriggle room at all which with my bad back wouldn't be any good

My s1xr is fine when it’s warm but she doesn’t like being cold 🥶

@@TinsonTour I think they all do it when they’re cold, having the clutch adjusted helps abit.
Biggest problem is the rear lights no one knows when you’re indicating while braking.
A cool cover helps the seat to be more comfortable.
I am still amazed that you guys can test ride bikes like you do. Unheard of around me. The local dealer, 2 hour away, has guided demo rides sometimes. Great video.
Yeah most dealers round here let u take bikes out without to much hassle which is cool 👍🏍
I live in north east England and have test rode about 20 bikes in the last few years, new demo bikes and used bikes too with no issues. Some places ask for a insurance charge of £5 to £10 and some only allow an hour or two. (Harley let me test ride their pan America as long as I wanted!)
Feel sorry for you guys who don’t get to test ride in certain areas / countries. Really difficult to make a decision based on reviews etc. I’ve rode a BMW R1250GS twice and still not convinced about it yet reviews say it’s great. Each to their own, which is why I think a test ride is essential.
id love to buy one but i have never felt a more stupid or uncomfortable seat in 46 years of riding bikes
Tbh it wasn't really the comfort that bothered me it was the fact u couldn't move once shoe horned into it 🤣

How did they make a 4 cylinder vibey? Must be the wriggling handle bars.

I went out on Saturday when it was -5C in the morning. I was worried about frost and ice on the road. I was doing 30 in a 60 zone. Am I overreacting? How do you handle potential ice on the roads? Whenever I see sub-zero, I feel like it's super dangerous to ride.
Tbh that's really the only time i try and not take the bike out if there's ice about as your just a passenger and by the time u see it its to late ... for me no sudden movements and try and leave the brakes alone
The back lights are shit when braking and indicating
Had the XR as a loan bike when my GS was in for service.........hated it 🤣😂 Similar problems with the clutch

You and everyone else haven't got the buttocks for that bloody seat, it's shite,😮 it's a shame because it's a great bike, but they buggerd it with that bucket seat, it's because if it has a decent seat you would have to be a minimum of 6ft 4 to ride it. Hopefully they have fixed it for 2024 ! Froze me tits off just walking the Dog at 7.30 this morning, So hats of for braving the cold 🥶
Yeah apparently they've sorted the seat on the new 1 as the seat on this is pretty much unacceptable for a touring bike although u see enough about so presuming they must suit some folk 👍🏍
@@TinsonTour most I've seen that guys actually use, have a gell pad or they have had the seat modified, if they haven't it's probably a Garage queen.
Nothing nice about riding a bike with cold hands and feet get your self some gerbing gloves summer all year thought you were going to get a xr before the last gs

Everyone that seems to buy this bike seems to sell them pretty quickly. The seat is terrible, the rest of the bike is nice looking.
Yeah it's a proper bucket seat once your in your in 🤣

Exactly same took gs for service last year had xr -4 icy as couldn't really test it. Heated gloves sort reynards out👍🏻 prefer the gs.
Defo gonna have to get some that's the 1st time in ages where i actually wanted to get off the bike to warm my right hand up 🥶
@TinsonTour had that few years ago with the feet the pain. really questioned why I was riding in winter the I got socks never cold in the body really. Carnt wait to get out now.

Hey Steve hope alls well , Shauns appointment has been put back a month due to medical staff strikes so fingers crossed we'll be out on the bikes soon although upto now his eye is no better
Hey mate, I had the first edition 2016. Nice when you’re breaking the speed limit! A bit same at normal speeds, I must of liked it tho, I kept it for 2 n half years!
The GS suits me better.
Yeah it flys high up the revs could see the licence taking a beating if i had 1 🤣
I had the 2020 model, and yes, the clutch does it when the engine is cold. After heating up a little, no issues. So, it’s s1000xr specific.
Yeah was crazy it was all or nothing but soon as engine was warm it was fine 👍
I need heated socks. I've yet to buy them...

Yes, they are a life changer for us with cold hands! I'm running Gerbing for some years and it's perfect! Only thing a bit bulky but well worth the bother! Plus i will suggest 12 Volt one over 7 Volt, dearer but hotter, plus you can plug it in the bike electric without much hassle, even thou battery technology it's pretty good right now (Running hybrid system with Gerbing)@@TinsonTour
It's the cold oil with the clutch. My Yam MT10 does exactly the same. Always thought that XR could be my perfect touring machine, but that seat just cups you into a position with no wriggle room.
Absolutely plus in the wrong rev range it just doesn't have any guts
