imagine being offended by someone who wasn't even talking to you lmfaoo the audacity
I'm "offended" by specific people on The Real who look for empathy and solidarity when
it comes to their personal or "people of color" struggles, yet don't keep the same
energy when it comes to BLK people and cape for executive or the white agenda
all too often. Yea that part
@Emanuel Carr Yes, I felt the same way. When they talk about blacks they are rolling their eyes or it don’t seem like it’s important to them. They say we are too sensitive about everything. Ohhh, but let them talk about their nationality, they go all the way in. Again, our race never get respect in any way or form. And we still struggle with all of that & more.
I believe you mean "the Caucasity". Haha
@@VDOTU5 I'M FUCKING WEAKKK!!
FACTS! This comment has me dead LOL
It's so ignorant how people think when they hear East Asian, South Asian, African, Spanish languages, wanting them to "speak English" but they most likely wouldn't tell someone speaking French or Swedish the same thing. Stupid.
Right? I also think it’s basically, white people are allowed to speak another language and people of color are not. And I’m a white person recognizing this.
Euro-blood sUpReMaCy is sooooo disorienting. They think everything they uphold should be held above everything/body else even their language, come on! The fact that they want things their way even when differences cannot effect them is bogglingly petty. I think all this started with particular Europeans in power who made it through the black plague and that it led to formation of a hyper-superiority complex that expanded and evolved by "any means necessary".
That part!!
If you speak Korean Vietnamese Spanish French Russian Portuguese or any other language that you are native to and you want to live here in the United States and I know that it’s hard to learn a new language because you were used to speaking your own native tongue but it would be helpful if you are going to live here to learn how to speak English so that you can communicate with other people and they can communicate with you and I cannot tell you how many times i’ve had Mexican women come up to me and start speaking Spanish and I don’t speak Spanish at all I know very little and so therefore I always say no Habla Espanol and then of course they walk off and go and find someone who does but if they knew English then I could help whatever it is they’re wanting to ask me but instead they choose not to so I’m sorry but But that man was wrong for coming at her and all she simply was trying to convey was that it would be nice if they spoke English because when you go to the nail salon another example and they’re all Vietnamese and they speak in their own native language to me in my opinion it’s rude because you know that they’re always talking about you in their own native tongue or about whatever it is it conversing about with each other and it’s just simply rude and disrespectful to speak another language in front of somebody else it doesn’t understand what you’re saying
a olivestone they were not speaking to her. None of her business. End of story.
She said “stop harassing me” girl.... goodbye with your victim mentality. You started this.
Imagine a group of Americans going abroad and speaking English on public transportation, and a local yelling at at them to speak French/Korean/Hindi whatever...those Americans would flip out and want to start WWIII.
Not true. In many countries they are targeted for petty thefts and scams for not speaking the local language
So true
Mad facts
Bianca,
That is a good point
You're right lol i was told to speak French when i was Paris. I was trying to order food once. In that particular case i dont think it was racist . But, in this case .... i dont know if shes racist but she clearly has a problem with minorities that whole situation was unnecessary from what i saw
She’s right. Same races checking themselves makes a larger impact.
uhurtmeagen YES!
racism is more than just black vs white, thank you for acknowledging this type of racism as well
Like when Asians that immigrate to America are racist towards black people?
sweets3445 I’m an Asian. Never made fun of black people or did anything bad to them. I’ve had black people call me chink and black men sexually harass me, though. The vast majority of black people I’ve met have been good to me, though, so I don’t generalize, and neither should you
@@JJ-dv1ve did I say all Asians? No, but most of the Asians I've run into where my college is (the wealthiest area in my mid sized city), especially the ones that praise and wanna be white go along with whatever their racist friends say or do
sweets3445 well you didn’t say some asians. lol
J J the people that are most racist towards asians in my area are white ppl...racism is in their blood lol
That lady surely isn't well traveled. Never left America for sure.
Probably never left the state.
Probably never left the county
Elle D well she is affecting other people by harassing them...
Elle D did you watch the video? tf
I've never left America and I don't act like this. This lady is just ignorant
I hate that “it’s America, speak English” bs. Basically saying “don’t speak unless I can understand you.” It’s crazy.
Though I did laugh at the woman in the video. She’s trying to control their speech while preaching free speech.
Most Americans don’t actually know our laws until they’re in trouble for not abiding by them.
If you're with a group of people, you should speak the language everyone understands. Obviously, the case here is different and the woman was discriminatory as she even wasn't with them.
Veronica Ivanova What’s race got to do with it? If they were white and speaking a foreign language is that racist too? Even if They are the same race
@@veronicaivanova idk about that, if i want to speak in my language other than english, it's my right to do so, and most of the time speaking in their native language is waaay easier than trying to translate into english...mind your business and move on in your life
@@bhermoth, it depends on the circumstances really. I feel like the biggest problem within the US is that neither side is willing to make a compromise. If you're at work, you should be speaking the language spoken in the relevant country, so both colleagues and customers can understand you. Speaking a foreign language that not everyone can understand in front of your customers or colleagues shows disrespect and bad manners. I am a foreigner and appreciate the value of integrating within the country I live in. Of course, if you're with your friends and family who speak your language and there's nobody with you who doesn't speak the language, feel free to speak it, but don't isolate people by refusing to speak the language everyone understands. Foreigners need to put an effort as well as the natives in order for both foreigners and natives to live well. Telling me to mind my own business in a public comments' section only shows your narrow-mindness and, therefore, I don't think there is any point in continuing a conversation with you. I hope you broaden your horizons 😉

As a native american growing up on my reservation we had Lakota(out native language) class along with english class. We did our pledge to the flag every morning in Lakota and I didn’t know the english pledge of allegiance until I went to Georgia. It was deemed disrespectful and I got in trouble for not being able to say the english pledge down there
Wow smh 🤦🏽♀️ we should know Lakota and other native languages. Your ancestors deserve respect because this IS your land.
I'm sorry you were classified as rude for not knowing the pledge of allegiance. When some people don't understand that we all come from all sorts of backgrounds & customs... Such a disrespect on their part. Especially towards an original native of this land!
That's stupid
What's crazy is I was never even taught in school the name of Native Americans' native language and didn't know until today. Our ethnic history lessons are severely lacking.
Marissa R. Exactly. I wish we had more shine in modern day. Black people struggle for representation but they fortunately have obama, beyonce, oprah, ect. Natives have just as bad police brutality, worse human trafficking, and drug problems, poverty and gang violence with no one to shed light on it. Can you think of a tribal Normani, lizzo, denzel Washington? We have literally no representation besides history books..
I wish a bish would tell me to speak English while I'm speaking Creole/Italian/French/German. My mother tongue is Creole, when I'm with my Haitian friends or family I automatically switch to Creole.
I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT YOU WHEN I SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE IN PUBLIC.

He helped her in the long run because someday she might say those things to the wrong person and get hurt physically 🤷🏽♂️
I lived abroad for years and I loved laughing at fellow American colleagues who were abroad and refused to learn any Asian languages and complained about them not knowing English in their own countries. The argument was that English is the language of global trade. However, English became that way because it was forced upon people as a product of colonialism..This institutionalization of English has made linguistic judgement somehow justifiable. It is not acceptable AT ALL and I love that more people are understanding how hurtful such judgements are. Knowing English doesn't make you American, it doesn't make you intelligent, and it doesn't make you a good person....think of the myriad of criminals who have all known English. I speak 5 languages and am super proud, cause it helps me connect with more people and lots of different types of Americans...knowing languages other than English has helped me feel more American, not less.
Love this comment!
I mean I would never call someone out especially when they are not talking to me and having a private conversation, but everytime before I live in a new country I learn the fucking language. I think its kinda annoying and embarrassing when you work and study in a country and you cant even speak the language. and I know some of them. for some jobs and master degrees you just have to speak english and dont have to speak the native language at all. They dont even try or take classes to learn the native language and learn the culture and make some native friends. Then why did you move out of your country in the first place? I dont know but i think this is kinda arrogant and annoying does not wake sympathy in me
I am so sorry if I cam across arrogant or self-righteous in anyway; that was not my intent. What I meant was that lots of people I spent time with, fellow Americans, just didn't feel the need to learn the language and would often complain about the lack of capabilities of the people in that country based on the fact that they hadn't adopted English as a main communication language. I would never call someone out for their weaknesses simply because that isn't kind and is rarely, if ever, productive. With friends and colleagues I would offer to help them learn the language and explain how it provides a great new perspective and with others I would listen and if the comments became offensive I would highlight some positives in the culture as counterpoints to censure. Still, I do think it is arrogant for people to expect everyone to speak English or cater to English speakers because English became a global language due to colonialism.
In a sense, the countries that weren't colonized by the British and didn't adopt English show a level of historic political strength, not ineptitude. Just saying that people should speak English naturally, regardless of where they are, literally makes fun of the complicated history of how English was forced upon various cultures around the world. We all have views that we express without realizing the scope of offense or value they have to others. However, once we realize that, we should act with more grace; that's all I meant. The more we know the better we can live and work together, regardless of our backgrounds and I believe ultimately that is something everyone would be happy for.

"You're talking back to me, SILLY!" 😭😭😭 I love that! My mom uses the word "silly," in the exact same way. Haaaa I love it!
I’m (white) from Australia, and until maybe three years ago, I never knew this was happening, if I found myself in a situation where someone was telling another that they had to speak English in a multicultural (their) country, I would’ve felt so confused as to what gave them the right to think that way and be so cruel, I also would’ve kept my thought to myself (as I wouldn’t have known what to say, or how to defend my own opinion) and regretted later on not saying anything. I’m glad through UA-cam I’ve come across these situations now, because it’s something I’m aware of (and I should be). What I’m saying is, unfortunately it takes situations like this for people who aren’t and would never get ridiculed to be aware, we’re in sensitive without realising it. Hopefully I made sense. I just wish sexism wasn’t such a huge issue, that includes 50% of the population, I mean it’s scary, we’re in 2020 🙁. I could argue that all men are sexist and I hate to admit that 😢
The people who say that they talk too much about racism obviously haven’t experienced racism!!!!!!!!! It is the worse feeling to be attacked for something that should actually be celebrated! I hate racism ffs
YasieTV exactly they hate hearing it bc they can’t relate. But it just shows their ignorance bc if others are still dealing with that in this country it should absolutely be discussed
No one said they talk too much about racism. People were stating that they tend to make things about race when it has nothing to do with race .

Saniah Prater uh no they do, I’ve seen it in comments on IG. They mentioned it in an episode on here also. I think for me it’s AMAZING they talk about it.
I wish what Jeannie said about getting your citizenship in any language was still true. My mom recently took her citizenship test, passed it, paid the fees and everything, but was denied citizenship because she couldn’t speak fluent English. This is an epidemic now. Because of the current president, this mindset is now being enforced smh

Thank you ladies for being the REAL daytime show I fell in love with years ago. With love from South Africa!
Yes, I would definitely stand up for anyone being harassed (within reasonable measure). At the same time, people are crazy in this era and I don't want to attract violence to myself. As a woman, if a situation looks unsafe, I would contact the proper authorities to deal with someone who is threatening someone else.
On a side note, didn't we just see this episode earlier? I just realized that this is my second time watching this clip. It had me thinking I was loosing it for a second, lol.

This exact thing happened with my dad recently. I’ve called him out on it countless times in the most respectful way I can. He never changes. People seem to have a larger problem with being called racist than just not thinking in a prejudice way.
I'm Puerto Rican and my parents taught me Spanish and then I learned English and now me and my son are learning Vietnamese which is a beautiful language ppl should just mind their own business and start respecting and accepting differences and go out and learned different languages instead of hating on those who speak different languages🤷🏽♀️
I get that if she was being talked too, English was would be preferred, bc if we can't understand each we have nothing. But, in a private conversation, do you.

Yasss so glad y’all addressed this. Happened next to my school. 💯
What the guy said: THAT 👏🏽👏🏽 wow! 🎯
When I hear ppl speaking a language I don’t understand, it makes me interested in the conversation, and it makes me want to learn their language. There’s a reason why English isn’t the official language
English is primarily used especially in schools, businesses, and workplaces so having an understanding would be helpful. My friend who was is bilingual had too for the longest time translate for her mother who only spoke Spanish especially for doctor's appointments. I understand speaking a foreign language is amazing but I won't help someone who doesn't understand me.
I ADORE Amanda on the show. People love to pretend that racism isn't a thing. Shopping at Walmart, I was recently discriminated against. Truth be told, I felt less than human. It is very much a real thing! I appreciate all the women's opinions on this topic. Bringing light to these situations is necessary. Love The Real!!!
Never once been to another country and had people mistreat me or tell that I should learn their language. I’ve always received nothing but kindness and have found that language transcends words. How much do you really want to communicate with people. I’ve had wonderful experiences communicating with people via gestures and little words here and there. It’s a learning experience. Why do Americans insist that you must speak English, when they hear people speaking other languages? I think it’s the most beautiful thing in the world to hear other languages. I feel like it’s their own insecurities among other things because in many parts of the world they speak multiple languages including English, and yet here in the states we push English only, which is completely ignorant. Some people from the states even go and travel to other countries just so they can say they went to Paris or Tokyo, and yet they don’t even take the time to learn a little about the culture that they’re about to experience, let alone the language. That’s disrespectful as well. Of course, they’re not being harassed about it on a bus. The level of ignorance at this time just feels like for every step forward, we take 10 steps backward. Don’t be ignorant people. Think before you speak, and understand what it is you’re actually saying. Truth be told Americans like to go on about how “this is a free country”; and how “it’s my right”. So, I will play that card now too. It is a free country, and if I feel like speaking a different language, that’s my right. If I feel like inventing my own martian language and speaking that, it is also my right. If hearing another language bothers you that much, then guess what, just simply remove yourself. It’s a simple solution. My intention is never to offend, but I feel that we really do need to be more cognizant and definitely acquire some emotional intelligence. I grew up in a multilingual multicultural home, and I’m very proud of that and that I can speak more than one language; and I do it all the time.
I had plenty of people tell me to learn spanish because I was in the valley, and should speak the "official language," so happy someone spoke up about this.
The USA doesn't have an official language 🤦♀️

@@joannasaadati8810 thank you for reiterating my point :)
@@MsWeirdolover I said it in addition to your comment, sorry if it came off as rude 💜

I love when when white people check other white people. There not all the same. There are white people who respect other cultures. What a great guy. God bless
I have so much appreciation for you and for others who recognize that. Can you imagine being grouped in with the ignorance of that woman just because you have the same skin color? That man had the same color skin as her dumb ass and he checked her beautifully.
The way they all turned to Jeanie ...I died!
When Jeanie said natives have there own language it just reminds me how many natives were beat and SA for speaking in our native language on OUR land. These people are bold asl.
She wanted to hear what they are saying so that she can call 911
It is so funny I come onto UA-cam and the same thing happening to me is happening to someone else:
I am a Jamaican girl and I’m 15 years old living in America and I was speacking to my other Jamaican friends at school in patois (Jamaican dialect which is broken down English)and on numerous occasions a white male in my grade is always telling me “speak English”, “this is America”. This person even came to my house after school and on my way walking home he was saying “try to speak English tomorrow”. Jamaica is an English speaking country. The official language is English. We just have a dialect or “other language”that we talk. I think it so wild that this person does these things to me and my friends when my friends and I are not talking to or about him. We are just normal teens just like him and we get treated different.
Tell him “suck Yu Mada”.... joke..
He needs to mind his business. You ain’t talking to him so why is he so bothered. Continue doing you girl and never let anyone prevent you from showcasing our beautiful culture 🇯🇲

Sometimes when people are speaking another language it can feel like they're connecting in code.
As a bystander... that can be interpreted and leave someone feeling very isolated.
It's like when people whisper around you..
It's not illegal to do so, in the same way you can speak whatever language you want; but it makes people paranoid and uncomfortable.
And when given the opportunity I think this is something ALL sides should consider..
It's like mom always said..
There's a time and place for everything ❤
Adrienne hit it spot on. The ones who want others to speak english for them don’t and will never understand or empathize with those who have experienced immigration unless they themself are moving to another country where they have to learn that country’s language. The fact that the lady on the bus doesn’t know she was being racist is the key factor for young generations to be taught that racism still exists and that they need to be well educated before speaking like this lady in public did.
them speaking in their native tongue was doing no harm to no one.
My heart skips a beat every time Native Americans are mentioned. We’re never given a place in mainstream media so it doesn’t happen often at all but when it does I feel like I’m being given a personal shoutout. I can’t be the only indigenous person who feels like this.
I dont mean to come off offensive but you THINK the Native experience may not be as big as pop culture makes it out to be? Because we're ALL Native American by logic no matter what race or culture we come from and plus History is sooooo complex where we cant rely on everything that's reported.
Look up residential schools. Despite the genocide we still face, we are still here. Our languages and ceremonies have survived. You don’t know anything about us because it’s never put in the media. Look up Indian residential schools, starlight tours, MMIWG2S and MMIP. We’re still finding bodies under around churches and “schools”. Our struggles are no joke.
@@KrisBryant99 before Derek Chauvin almost got away with George Floyd’s murder he got away with the murder of a Native Man. But no one talks about that.

Okay, so today I caught myself in my head really being annoyed with 2 people having a conversation in spanish right in front of me while I was told in English to "please wait"and they would be right with me. Unbeknownst to them I understood the conversation and it was a personal topic about a dress..for a full 5 min straight. Now. I waited patiently didn't say a word, but I was thinking to myself you both speak very clear English as noted when I entered the waiting room. Why not just talk about it so I can "hear". And I DID say to myself I wish they just spoke English when someone else is in presence, so at least I could feel comfort I wasn't being ignored without a purpose.
Then I felt bad for thinking this way. After watching this I'm not sure where I stand granted I had no experience or right, saying they shouldn't speak Spanish around a "seemingly English" speaking person. Man this just got too complicated for my high.... I'll be back with my point.... .
Don't feel bad. When I traveled to Thailand, I at least tried to speak a little Thai. It's a sign of respect for a country and it's people. I kinda think this woman has a fair point. I don't think I would have handled this situation the way she did. I probably wouldn't even have said anything honestly. But I do think that we are becoming so diverse that we are losing our culture. I want this country to feel like home but it's starting to feel like a huge melting pot and I don't think that's going to be a good thing for this country.
I love how all their heads turned toward Jeanie when the video ended 😂
I live in Norway. If I wanna call my bank, need to go to the hospital, buy a house , etc I would like for people to speak my language or English. Thats not too much to ask. But other than that speak what language you want. :)
I love all different languages I wanna learn It's Beautiful that everyone is different God is so perfect for this 😌😘😍
My coworker says this all the time, that other people needs to speak English and always quote “when in Rome do as the romans do” but as a child of an immigrant I understand both sides. Bc it is hard sometimes to understand what other people want if they are not able to communicate And I did remind her that America does not have a language and that it’s a melting pot. It’s just sad that it’s coming from her bc she is Jamaican and She has strong values but I didn’t think I’d hear that coming from her. 🤷🏻♀️
And the fact that some person whether born here or came here and received citizenship can speak more than one language is a blessing in many ways. Plus, being bilingual, trilingual, or more is sought after in many jobs in USA.
Exactly!! DON’T always mind your business. Speak up when against racism or kids being mistreated !!
I love Amanda on this show ❤️ she has a brain and voice 💡
I saw this video like two weeks ago I believe. At the very end of the video she says “make it go viral” & I’m happy it has gone viral.
People think that racism is simply someone being rude to another person because of their race or just not liking another race but the literal definition is to think your race is superior to other races and that’s exactly what she displayed when she made that comment. That’s why I was so happy when he told her to learn the definition because she was doing just that (asserting “superiority”)
They weren't talking to her but she was paranoid they were talking about her 😂
So why do they speak english when they travel to other countries,Korea,Japan,Egypt, etc.
I really love Jeannie’s top. This conversation is definitely needed in society
Adrienne looks amazing and this man is the real MVP
The United States does not have an official language!!! there are so many people that do not know that. People need to understand that immigrants already have their own emotions about not being able to speak the language and they have to do what they have to do survive here. Telling someone "to speak English" is adding insult to injury. As if they don't want to speak the language. January is too long. I'm ready for February!
Exactly 👏Racists are usually dumb though so it might be a lot for them to grasp all of that 😅
@@joannasaadati8810 it's so unfortunate.
@@FlexNFly Very much so. I'm from Canada and we have our share of racist aholes but also 70% of citizens in the country are immigrants so we are much more accepting of different cultures and languages.
Well, we actually do have an official language, which is English. Since the settlers first arrived. But since we have become more diverse, you see other languages. Which, i don't think is a good thing for this country. If we let others from different cultures become citizens, then we will struggle to make efficient and productive decisions because everyone wants different things. I just don't see it going well.
Um but in a work place It can come across offensive. I don’t “look” like I speak Spanish but you won’t BELIEVE some of the rude things I would hear OUT LOUD in front of EVERYBODY just because they thought we wouldn’t understand.
This happened in my town... Sad to say that this isn’t the 1st time this woman has done this (and I’m sure it won’t be the last, smh). The local PD had to step in and she was removed from the bus 🙌🏾
Imagine you not minding your business then BOOM 💥, you gotta walk home 😂🤷🏽♀️
Are we sure this wasn’t an episode of “what would you do?”😂
