DIY Solar River Raft 5 Days Camping
Вставка

- 400 watts of solar panels, 8 rain barrels and a 40lb thrust trolling motor propelled us on our 5 day river adventure on the North Saskatchewan River. I brought along crazy neighbor and the two of us got stuck, caught fish, and had the adventure of a lifetime.

I love how this dude shows simple glimpses into his adventures without over exaggerating anything or boasting about his skills. Just a normal dude that likes to get out and politely does his thing while pushing a lot of boundaries. Plus he sometimes brings Crazy Neighbor who seems to be a chill old dude that’s in it for not much else except hanging out with his buddy while enjoying the adventure. This is as wholesome and real as it gets in the world of friends enjoying themselves and not harming anyone or anything.
Well said Jay. Cheers

Welcome to Canada 🇨🇦 aye
Couldn’t have said it better

Two grown dudes floatin down a river in a solar-fort, it goes to prove all men have a "little boy" inside that still longs for adventure. My God Im so jealous!

Saw the video and news of Crazy Neighbor's passing. Rest in Peace Glen. Thank you for the smiles and laughter. You brightened many of my days.
RIP Glen.. Crazy Neighbor..
He will be sadly missed..
This is the first video I thought of 😢
Amen❤❤❤. A quite remarkable soul. The brief time I got to see him was great. ❤❤❤
Crazy Neighbor is the perfect sidekick. He is so helpful, doesn't hardly complain, has interesting things to add once in a while, and he's just a generally cool cat with a good attitude. Also, he's never "too" crazy. ;)
So very true!! Just two good friends sharing their passion for adventure! Glen will be sadly missed by all. I have been binge watching all the videos they both were in... Glen lived a good life, so happy he was able to do the things that made him happy until the end...,❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Crazy Neighbor looks like a good guy and a good Friend
Awww ikr!?! He seems like an amazing friend and he took one for the team to get the lost pole...dang what a cool guy
I wish I had a crazy neighbour 🤣
Every man needs their "right hand man friend". Crazy neighbor is the perfect breed of this type of person.
@@cumminonhertits3889 oh why be that way he's awesome AF
@@thecheesylife8376 I agree completely he seems like a really sweet wonderful guy
There is something wonderfully hapless about Steve's adventures. Waking up in a solar powered boat, in the shade. Twice. Taking a flame thrower to soaking driftwood, walking down the middle of a river towing his own boat, describing people waving to him as 'stressful'. It's all so natural, so real, and so very relaxing to watch.
Se makes mistakes so we don't have to and if we do, we won't feel too bad about it! Sound!
If Steve liked busy and people this video would probably be 4 hours of him playing “among us”
Waking up in a solar powered boat, in the only shady spot on the river.
Don't forget the joy of Step 2
I love seeing how Crazy Neighbor looks at Steve whenever he talks, like you can really see him listening and just having such a good time being with his friend. I really get a kick out of seeing these two dudes interact and just being so genuine to each other. Makes a fella feel nice on the inside.
Just got to the part where Crazy Neighbor said he caught one big fish and two rocks. Absolute legend.
genuine friendship right there
Fish is good and the rocks are hard to chew and digest
I 100 % agree! In a world filled with craziness and nut holes with no morals or anything good to say, it’s a breathe of fresh air watching Steve’s videos!
Looks more like a sweet father son duo
Yes it’s so wholesome
One of my favourite “camping with Steve” videos. I Never get bored of this one. On a snowy Alberta day like today, its nice to watch this video and dream of spring. Wishing you well, Steve.
I love watching Steve, especially when crazy neighbour is with him. Everyone should have a crazy neighbour.
I have two
We need more Steve and crazy neighbor camping. It's relaxing watching these two
@@MOI-qq8zc are they the good kind of crazy or the "Keep off my lawn" kind of crazy ?
I have a crazy neighbour, and so does he.
if you don't have one,.. you are one
So glad crazy neighbor is becoming less of a literal silent partner. Like hearing him talk!
Hell yeah
@@TheGAMEGod_YT ll
I was going to ask, is he allowed to talk or what.. almost seems like Steve shoots him a look when he tries to talk, like this is Steve’s video not CNs video.. even my girl noticed it over a few videos.
He died
Why I tune in is for the expert camping advice. This from Crazy Neighbor: "Water proof boots are great but they only work if the water level is lower than the top of the boot." OMFG!
True fact all campers should be aware of
I will try to remember that advice next time my but is getting wet in my boat😉
😂 We all KNOW that is true but how many times do we push the water depth to the limit?
Loved how Steve caught his jump into quicksand on the camera! Epic!
It works the same way with chest waders.
@@americangal49 He could not have scripted it better, if he had tried.
Steve Wallis, nice to meet you man. So sorry for your loss. Hang in there. You are loved!!!
Bold move making bean chili sleeping under one roof with Crazy Neighbour...
Whats next Deviled eggs and Indian curry?
🤣🤣🤣 good call Daniel 👍🙊💨😷 mask needed for different reasons 😂😳
Was literally about to say that when I saw your comment 😂
take a ride down the brown river
I can smell it from here.
It's very humbling to see this in the world we live in today, with Covid and all the stupid stuff going on, to just see 2 guys go out on a homemade river boat and escape the world entirely for 5 days, very cool to see.
formalguy01 Makes me want to reread Huckleberry Finn
@BereanJenn there is something reassuring and restorative about steve and him gettin out in nature, a reminder that its the simple things in life that bring us true happiness
Every guy deserves a friend like Crazy Neighbor!
I know what you’re saying.... but No. .... not every guy deserves a Crazy Neighbor. Some guys can’t appreciate a Crazy Neighbor
i thought id be sad watching older videos where crazy neighbor was around but i smiled upon thinking how blessed you are to have so much documented footage of yall hanging out and that has to be nice to reflect on from time to time. love your videos steve!
My favorite part is watching the meals even if it’s only a can of chili. Everyone loves food
I don't love food, I wish it wouldn't exist and humans could survive without eating at all. I get headpain everytime I eat, my heart is racing and I feel tired... I don't like food even if it tastes good
@@RequiemDream you dont have to eat food theres PILLS, and DRUGS you can take for that 😉 😜 😏 🤣 😀 😄

Chilli and bread… made me pretty hungry lol
Steve I love to watch the transition that took place between the young man who quit his job and hated society and was living in a van seemingly a little angry at the world, to the mature man who is just easy-going and enjoying life and produces wholesome good videos of his adventures. I like it that crazy neighbor is more visible in this video and is interacting and talking more, he just seems like a cool OK dude. I like you’re stealth camping videos very much, but I miss that you have someone there to interact with. This homemade pontoon boat is the bomb and I really enjoyed this video!
It’s an amazing character arc!
have you seen the boondocking documentary? ,I only found after years of casually binging steve, big shock to see him smoking and his constant nearly empty can of beer :D
I just found Steve today & after binging my thought was, while cooking lunch, is that Steve is helping ME believe in society again & ready to get back out there. So if his travels in life lead him to where he is today, I'm grateful. We all have a past that might not be pretty to look at...
This is the kind of world we should live in where people are free to have these crazy adventures without stressing about how they will make enough money to survive. I'm thankful YT has allowed some people this freedom already and bitcoin will do the same for the rest of us who you won't see on YT. The change is coming and it can't come fast enough for all the amazing people in this world that deserve it. Peace & bitcoin prosperity to all.
More invisible in this video?

There are WAY to many youtubers "outdoorsmen" who are "expert" on everything, and yet don;t actually DO anything, except product reviews, and regurgitating tired old "woodsman's hacks" from there basment studio.

Just found this channel. I’m about a dozen videos in and I’ve already come to adore both Steve and “Crazy Neighbor.” A couple of genuinely good wholesome guys. This has been so therapeutic to watch you. I was so depressed but now I can distract myself and plan for an adventure to honor my dad. Thanx.
Amazing job man keep it up my dad loved to camp too but I lost him when I was 8 now at 25 I’m following the camping campaign so I’ll be right behind you buddy

we are all in the same boat and it is sinking, so we have to keep each other safe.
this life is just a river with the only constant that is love. God gave us love and we should share it.
there is no past there is no future everything is now and we have no choice other than finding ourselves within the now with the help of Faith in our Creator.
each of us is created uniquely and there is always someone who is better at some things than the other and we all have values.
i do not know if it helps you or if you are against the idea that God created us for a reason and that the world is the way it is, for we have to go through fire to know what is important and constant and we need to do it to test our strength or to acknowledge our weaknesses.
wish you well and at least you still have your parents by your side.
if a bird does not need to worry about getting food tomorrow then why should we?
God will care for us if we humbly accept being his sheep.
God bless you.have Faith.
I was in your situation from ages 13-17. I've never had any mental conditions so I'm probably no help there, but I do know what it's like to live in hotel rooms and be in a new town 8+ hours away from the previous one every 6 months, and honestly that wasn't the worst of it.
The feeling of having no control was nearly unbearable. I found that once I accepted there were certain things I couldn't control I felt much better. I started to focus on things I could control and find productive things to do. I don't mean productive in the sense of doing work necessarily but just anything that would make me or someone else happy. Bring as much positive energy into the world as you can and the world will give it back to you ten fold. Focus on anything good in your situation. Focus on things you can control. Focus on what you can do for yourself and the ones you care about. Even if it's small. Anything you can do to keep busy and help yourself and others is a step in the right direction.
Also remember this isn't forever. Eventually you will be out on your own and hopefully you will have learned as much as you can from your current situation so that as an adult you aren't living in the same conditions. I'm honestly grateful for what I went through as a teen. I feel unbreakable. Of course I feel negative emotions and that's completely normal. But I've learned that there is nothing I can't work through. You will too. You are unbreakable. No one and nothing will ever be able to prevent you from living a full happy life. Ever.
To make the tarps easier to manage- add broom handles (or PVC maybe for lighter weight) and roll them up and down. Then ya don't have to fully remove and replace daily! Loved getting to follow along on this river adventure..straight outta all of our childhood fantasies
How DARE YOU suggest something of a lesser fun and SENSIBLE !! 🤨😂😂😂 SHAME ON YOU!! lol !!
That's a really good idea actually..

@@KandiKlover The last thing established UA-camrs should do is panhandle with a Patreon. They already make a killing from views and subs, more than the average person makes from a 9-5 job, so no need to beg for more. I can understand if it's a new channel and need money to help it grow, but once a channel has been running for a while and has more than 100k subs, the Patreon option should be scrapped, unless it's a donation to a decent charity.
@@TMGMedia73 Patreon is a way for appreciative fans to show their appreciation. And considering how ban happy UA-cam has gotten it's always a good idea for creators to have a backup plan that fans already know about.

As we get older we should go on more boyish adventures, just because we can. I think that we would all be a lot happier.
Agreed. My best friend passed away last December. This summer his brother and I took a three day canoe trip that was long over due. That was the kind of thing we did as kids.
@@ryanjones5592 Good on ya! I have been riding motorcycles since I was 10. I'm an old man now and I still get excited as that 10 year old every time I throw a leg over even though I ride every day. When he put those keys to my brand new Honda under the x-mass tree, what he really gave me was a life long love affair, and he knew it. Same thing with horses. At the end of the day...Ya gotta dance with the one who brung ya. Do the things that you love. It's good for you.
Most definitely, we need to recapture that optimism and adventurous spirit.
Don't get a career, don't study in university, don't get a job. Just work on what you love, try to be aware of the unquenchable ignorance we all have and never stop learning in defiance of this.
Not to advocate slothfulness, I mean that we should all work until the day we die. Just not working for reasons we hate.
We define our individual contribution to the whole through work; to hate work is to hate the whole. To quote Corinthians: The body is not one member, but many

The some of best vids he does are over an hour. I draw your attention to Boondocking movie. Steve is a class act and a Canadian Treasure ! Steve's long vids are only that long because it is THAT good, no fluff.
No doubt. The first video I watched of Steve's, was when he overnighted in the median of a freeway, ive been hooked since then. I got very excited when he posted this 1 hour 10 minute video. This is my 3rd time watching this video alone. I cant get enough of Steve's camping videos!
That was quite and adventure. Some people don't understand that inconveniences and hardships can actually be fun. You guys handled it masterfully!
If everything was easy it would be no fun. Coming up with ways out of problems you made is what's fun alot of times. Especially doing something you want to be doing

He actually reads comments, I commented about how much hair he had on his boondocking documentary 3 years ago today and got a heart. Glad he's in a place where he can comfortably do these things out of enjoyment instead of necessity.
RIP Crazy Neighbor. I sure miss him in the videos. He was always there for Steve. Just lost a Brother named Crazy Dan. He looked just like him and always there for me. RIP Crazy Neighbor and Crazy Dan. Viva Los Vagos
Did he wait to wire up the solar panels until he was literally floating on the river? Steve is great.
that's having hardcore fun right there he just winged it
Idea for your solar, Rig a simple system that allows you to tip your panels to face toward the sun from either side of the boat/raft. Also, try to get some push poles made from Bamboo. Fill the inner chambers with spray-foam or stuff a pool noodle inside so they will float if they accidentally get dropped. You can put a couple metal hose clamps on the ends to keep them from splintering. PVC pipe filled with foam on one side, and lead shot on the other, then capped off would be a good second. that way the lead would help the one end sink, but it if got away from you, the foam end would stick up like a bobber or buoy.
A friend of my mine recommended Steve's channel and I love this stuff! Growing up in Saskatchewan, I've explored the North Saskatchewan and South Saskatchewan river valleys but have never seen a DIY raft adventure on them. The raft is really cool and it's great to see that you can find all of the materials to build one of these at the local Canadian Tire. Keep the content coming, Steve! I think a time lapse camera (say a DashCam/ GoPro Hero) would be awesome for the front of the raft
In the future you can either add a rudder to keep your drift in the right direction. Or alternatively you could utilize what is called a drag line, it can be rope or chain. It acts similarly to the tail on a kite. But it is reeled out at the back end and simply allowed to drag along the bottom. Obviously it takes a sizable amount of rope depending on the thickness of the rope. It takes far less chain, again depending upon the thickness of the chain as to how much. For such a small craft I would start right around 30 feet of rope and maybe 15 feet of medium sized chain. One other method, which is a cost saver is to use a combination of rope and chain, dragging the chain attached to some rope ! Hope to see more of these sorts of adventures Steve !
Such a joy old lady to be able come along on the adventure. Thanks so much. Where we going next??? ❤️
just remember if you get stuck on the river just rock the boat lol
Just another old lady here, enjoying the adventure. Great steering from rocks Capt, watch that quicksand and start my fire with a blow torch -- YEAH, Thom Sawyer and Huck Finn 😂

I've said it before, God bless you Steve. I lost my Angel in 2019. And my crazy neighbor in 2022. I wish you didn't have to go through the pain. Thank you for being strong. SEMPER FI
You asked for ideas for future trips. Did you consider filling those barrels with expanding foam? Closed-cell foam would mean they'd still float even if a rock tears a hole in the side of them and no more concerns about bringing an air pump to keep them inflated.
Sounds like a good idea, if you aren’t using them for something else when you aren’t on a river…
I do the exact same thing to both my 4x4 truck tyre's. Works great. Never flat again. Wahooo

I know- right ! A man in a van sleeping along the River 😳 but honestly I’d have given him a beer!
How nice of beautiful wife to support you. Looks like crazy neighbor has done this kind of thing all his life. Loved this episode BTW.
Found your channel the other day and I’ve been sitting, having beer and watching along your adventures. Such a gem!
Not "having a beer" . . . . . Step two!
I am here today to pay an homage to Crazy Neighbor, who has recently passed away. This video is the first one I watched when battling COVID.
Steve, please continue with the videos! You have no idea how much you have helped people like me.
Well I got class in the morning, enough YouTu.... *notification appears* ah, who needs school. 😂
These buds are real Canadian Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn on an adventure.
Nice video, nice adventure. I went and had beans and bacon and toasted whole wheat bread for dinner just to "fit in" with you both lol. Greetings from sunny Jamaica.
Everyone needs a crazy neighbour. Steve is Blessed.
Steve, king of the land campers and the water campers!
