    I'm at the late game stage and I'm going to write some tips that I haven't seen anybody else mentioned, if you find this useful, please thumbs up so more people can benefit from it.
    AI Companion guide:
    First of all, every guide I watched says: "always press F1 twice to focus fire on your target mech." This is the absolute worst idea, let me explain why. Every battle has 60+ mobs of tanks and helicopters. Starting mid game they are armed with PPC and LRM15s, focus fire on a mech will leave all the mobs unchecked and they will end you in 30 seconds. Your AI companions are actually fast at taking out small mobs, 2 or 3 shots usually, don't stop them. My strategy is to pilot a mech with more armor to aggro the enemy mechs until my AI companions clean the little mobs, then use focus fire when there are only multiple enemy mechs left.
    Don't spam commands to your AI companions, if you pay attention, every time you issue a command, they will stop what their doing for about a second, then do what you asked, so if you keep spamming F1,F2 to form up on you, they will just slow down and stand there. I only use it when one of them broke off to chase an enemy, they usually follow you anyway.
    On top of jump jets, don't use unguided missiles on AI companion mechs, they suck at using it.
    Battle guide:
    When you start any battle, always look at the map first (press B) and walk along the parameter, the direct line to your objective is usually an ambush and you will be overwhelmed with enemies from all sides. This is especially the case in main quest battles, take the road less traveled and use hills to hide behind from long range enemy fire. The difference is night and day.
    Sticking to walls is critical, sometimes it can't be helped you are surrounded by enemies, most of them targeting you, if you're near a hill, you can reverse into cover and wait for them to come to you with all 4 of your mechs ready to gun them down.
    Late game logistic guide:
    When you're heading into a higher rank war zone, save your game at an industrial hub first, then fly over and see what the new tonnage requirement is at the new zone, reload the game back at your industrial hub to chose which 4 mechs to load to meet that tonnage. This will save you lots of money in repairs and refit at the warzone (usually cost 300% more). Not all higher rank war zone will allow more tonnage, my tip is stay in the lowest ranking war zone with the highest tonnage of your mech capacity for farming, it's not worth losing your valued weapons in a more difficult battle capped at the same tonnage.
    I have more strategies but this is all I can remember for now. Good luck.

    Couple of other tips from me (yeah, I'm late to the party):
    - You can skip time on "timeline" tab, if you have mechs to repair or refit but nowhere to travel. Avoid repairing in warzones if you can help it - 20-50% increase is not crippling yet, but there are zones with over 100% increases.
    - The map is rather lore-accurate and changes over time - some factions may merge or cease to exist over time, wiping your progress with them - so there is no real consequence in doing missions against them early on.
    - Mechs and variants also become available as per their lore introductions.
    - speaking of reputation - pay attention to factions you make contracts with - better your reputation, better stuff you can negotiate. The bonuses are fairly substantial.
    - if you are playing story campaign - keep good relations with 'Independents' - a lot of the story missions are given by them, but also plenty of factions have missions AGAINST them... So keep that in mind.
    - it is a good idea to get one or two pips in repair coverage, but otherwise go for salvage, but for missions that require you to just demolish buildings or grab items as quickly - it may be a better idea to go with increased cash.
    - your lance mates are really good with PPCs and long range weaponry in general. Short lasers and machine guns... not so much.
    - speaking of lance mates - the AI loves aiming for the arms, so perhaps mounting too expensive weapons there, or double heatsinks is not a good idea.
    - it is a good idea to keep couple of fast mechs even later on - you might think they would become redundant... And they largely are. You will likely not take down the lance of Atlases in a Flea, but a small, fast mech with machine guns and flamers is fantastic for demolition missions.
    - train yourself for headshots - better chance to salvage.
    - I have noticed that mechs that go critical also have a chance to be salvageable - but obviously they will be heavily damaged and will require very costly repairs.
    - It appears that some of the destroyed mechs in conflict zones get salvaged and find their way on the mech market - so if you didn't have enough points to salvage something you liked, chances are you will find it on the market in the area.
    - 'rare mech' offers are quite often overpriced, but not always.
    - do not be afraid of using ammo-based weapons, especially SRMs - medium laser and SRM combo is absolutely amazing and will save you much trouble.
    - do not underestimate those dinky little tanks and helicopters - they can deal considerable damage if left to their own devices, even to mighty assault mechs.
    - plenty of weapons have what I call "flavour" variants - missiles may come in normal or stream, autocannons come in normal or burst fire, lasers can be normal or short burn. There are some functional differences. Stream missiles are somewhat more accurate, BUT fire longer and thus are easier to shoot down. Burst autocannon also fires longer, and gives you ability to hit multiple parts, short burn lasers have lower damage, faster reload and are more heat efficient. Some may work better on different builds or be a matter of taste. For example - short burn lasers are nice if your mech has a tendency to run hot, normal autocannon is better for poking etc.

    Cool tips man! One more important tip: On many mechs there are important weapons, like on the centurion you have in the beginning. If the gun is gone, most of your fire-power is too. Remember those spots and try during combat to concentrate on those spots. Urban Mech is fantastic example. If the gun is gone, the Mech can be ignored (or finished later) same goes for the Centurion and many many other mechs. Also if you fight one alone, it is often a good strategy to just blow its legs.

    • @Mannyocrity
      @Mannyocrity  4 роки тому +3

      Excellent point. Also why you want to protect your own weapons as well. Picking a chassis with hard points on the body verse arms is also good idea.

    Here's a good early tip I found out. Keep an eye out for the Commando COM-TDK hero mech in the early market. It's just over 3 million C-Bills. Buy it, strip it of parts, and sell it back (best way to do it is throw it in cold storage, throw it back in your mech bay, then sell it). Now you have 4 double heatsinks. Go off and do some missions, then come back and find it on sale again (save scum to get it to appear if you have to). Rinse and repeat. Never use single heatsinks again.

    Great tips Mannyocrity, first time watcher and really enjoyed. Would love to to throw a few tips into the pot if you dont mind. Thumbs me up if you agree:
    - always bring 4 mechs to combat. This spreads out the damage and can improve your effectiveness and reduce repair costs.
    Keep at least one pilot in reserve in case someone gets popped in the middle of a long operation so you can keep going.
    - reduce ammo in legs.
    I go down by 50% and almost never get a lost leg. More space for other nice things.
    - area protection (defense?) contracts: bring jump jets on your command mech, it helps a ton to intercept enemies since there's often really weird big hills/craters that can make it difficult to stop the enemy trying to trample the base. Being on top of these high areas also seems to really confuse the enemy and they are terrible at shooting you up there.
    - bring additional armed mechs ready to go in your mechbay when entering a conflict zone. instead of refitting your mechs after a mission to go on to the next which can sometimes be extremely expensive, swap them out for the fresh one and throw the trashed ones in cold storage to be repaired later in a hub. This will save you a ton on operation costs for mechs maintained in your bay too.
    - DONT press V unless you are a cheaty clanner LOL :)
    Keep up the good work Manny!

    I am at rep level 9, and maxed my rep with Davion. I went over to Steiner land and found conflict areas of 11 and 12. I managed to buy an Atlas, a King Crab, a Zeus and a Victor.
    It is fun fielding assault mechs but i am struggling as in a typical defence mission, i am facing waves of mediums, heavies and some assaults.
    Any tips? I am finding myself earning just a little over my repair bill :(

    • @Mannyocrity
      @Mannyocrity  4 роки тому +2

      It gets much tougher later in the campaign with the npc pilots. Have you hired higher end pilots? What level are you current pilots? Are your current pilots rushing in and dying. I typically have the pilots focus fire one mech and I'll run around taking out the tanks and helos. Try and pull a single enemy away from the area at a time and focus on them. Don't worry about the damage to the buildings. What do your loads look like. some are better then others.

    • @scys3k
      @scys3k 4 роки тому +2

      @@Mannyocrity Besides the main character Mason and Freeman, the other pilots are the best i can find at skill level limit 27-28. One is maxed and one is about half-way there, being a recent hire. I have one mech configured for long to med range combat. I was using a King Crab with dual A/C 20s and a PPC.
      I was having problems with their overwhelming numbers as you said, and the problem being aggravated that since I found a place with Rep level 11, at least half of every mech I encounter is a heavy or assault. I configured the King Crab to core any mech asap to make my bottom line easier but even then it is rather taxing. Can you imagine this? For a typical defence mission, I get something like this . Wave 1 is 2 lights and a medium. Barely a scratch on the paint job. Wave 2, a light, a medium and a heavy. Sometimes it comes in 4 mechs instead of 3. Ok, my guys are more or less still in one piece. Wave 3, 2 heavies and an assault. An example being a Quickdraw, a Thunderbolt and a Zeus/Victor. By now, my mechs are already quite beat up. By the 4th wave, it is at least 2-3 assaults and a heavy.
      If I can make it back to base successfully after the 5th wave with one of my lance mech blown up, 2 of them and myself in the red and nearly dying, this is considered a victory

    • @bluelionsage99
      @bluelionsage99 4 роки тому +4

      Look for the 8 or 9 conflict areas. I think they are on the Marik borders. If you get ahead of your rep you get shot up so bad you rrepair bills eat up everything. You can even go back to the 6 and 7 areas if you have 230 and 200 ton lances (sometimes I use 3 mechs) and farm them for C-bills.

    • @scys3k
      @scys3k 4 роки тому

      David Wainio but I managed to have a lance of Assault mechs. Can i take it to mean that if i get ahead of my rep level, the repair is more expensive?

    • @bluelionsage99
      @bluelionsage99 4 роки тому +3

      I have only made it to running heavies, but it felt like lighter heavies had the lowest repair to average mission damage on 6 and 7 rep which is 200 or 230 tons. If you run three 60 to 70 ton mechs on a 200 ton drop you tend to only take armor damage, cheap to repair so you get ahead in c-bills.

  • @joeldoxtator9804
    @joeldoxtator9804 4 роки тому +2

    This is very surface level from a view point that is very early on in the game. You can really play any way you like and still be effective. That is why the game is so fun, it allows you to fail. My tips would be that more mechs and lance mates does not always equal better. If you have too many mechs and pilots you will constantly be broke and un able to play around with interesting setups of mechs as each mech costs passive money just to be in an active slot. Also, the more it weighs, the more it costs. With three lance mates on the field, they also tend to shot themselves more than they shoot the enemy costing you even more money. I tend to keep the individual tonage high and the lance mate numbers lower. The A.I. is also by default a worse pilot than you will be. Make sure you are piloting the highest pressure assault mech as the A.I. is very conservative with it's rate of fire.
    Larger weapons does not equal better weapons. Everything has it's pros and cons, just because it is a large weapon slot does not mean you have to put a large weapon in it. If all you have is large weapons, you will lack the rate of fire to deal with multiple targets effectively. Conversely, if all you have are the smallest weapons, you will lack the fire power to bring a single target down in a timely fashion. Machine Guns are useful, especially in large quantities. The ability to keep constant pressure on your target without large recycle times is critical. Also, be careful how many missiles you put in one mech. When your armor is exposed where the missiles are stored they become bombs that blow you to pieces as the enemy shoots them.
    This is more personal preference but I prefer a tighter field of view as well. The further out you are zoomed, the harder it is to see and hit targets that are further away. Also it is easier to judge weapon firing arcs from inside the cockpit rather than the third person view. Also turn off sharpening in the graphics options. It makes the shadows look really weird and breaks immersion. Shadows take on a screen door effect.
