I bought a used Trek 1000 in the late 90's for $200. upgraded the crank and saddle right away and other stuff since. It has always been my rain and winter bike so it has been out in salt and crud for 30 years since. It is a tough workhorse and a better ride than most would expect.
Damn dude, you really made that Bike look good I mean look really good. You should’ve been a trek salesman. I’m back looks great fantastic job. I love to see you work on these vintage bikes, man that I love. I love those bikes, beautiful
The beautiful thing about those downtube shifters is that you didn't have the awful STI shifter cable mess that protruded out sideways for the first ten years or so of indexed shifting, before they figured out how to keep everything under the bar tape. Nice Trek! I'm certain those thin tubes were less harsh than the old Cannondales!
I recently found a '91 Trek 2100 for $25 last month. Just needed a new chain, chainring, and a cleaning. It has full 105 groupset and i wish it had a triple out front. 13-23 out back and 53-39 up front. Im gonna have to put a bigger cassette on it, or even a triple chainring as you show here. Edit: Mine also had a Zefal HP X frame pump and LOOK Arc pedals. Its funny seeing the same stuff on older bikes like this. From the catalog, they all came with those pedals from the shop.
Love those old aluminum Treks. Still have, still ride my 1994 bonded aluminum Trek 8000 MTB, bought new for the princely sum of $900 in February 1994, ice indigo, hard tail, no shocks.
Ah wow, I just picked up one of these as a bare frame & fork in a cotton candy pink/blue color scheme. I'm doing the same type of build, too (Deore + 600, mostly from my parts bin). Swapping the 600's uniglide freehub body to hyperglide was fun. I wish I had seen your listing instead! That iridescent purple/blue is so good. Thanks for the build video.
Thanks, I just think I'm improving from every repair I work on and video I produce. The hair was just slowing me down, my test rides are a lot faster. lol
From the catalog, it says it came with a Deore DX drivetrain so the crank and chainrings were probably matching the derailleurs, and that also reduces the amount of parts bin raiding going on at the factory. Haha It says it had 50-44-28 on the front from new.
I think you are forgetting the mighty Sugino triple ctrankset. This was on touring bikes long before mountain bikes. I still prefer Sugino triples over other brands. What do you have against Giant?
Oh, yeah, Sugino. I forgot about those. They were good stuff, and were found them on the Trek 520 touring bikes. This was one of the first alloy road-only triples that they were making. I have nothing against Giant; they were our competition brand at Performance Bike, and they are currently building some Trek models.
Wow, you’re not the Bike farmer just getting a man haircut looks great dude good cleaner makes you look thinner way to go bro and I’m very interesting. Bike great content as always.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Also, I really loved hearing the history behind this bike and Trek as a whole.

Right, it's like a page out of bicycle history.
Amazing rebuild dude looks amazing.. it’s great to hear your history lessons on these brands great info buddy 😊 Pete 🚴🏻👍
Glad you enjoyed it

My first mountain bike was the Trek 8000, which was white with black speckles and equipped with Shimano Deore DX and pre-shock.

Very cool! I hope it turns out for you.
Nice! How wide did you go on the tires? Is it possible to get above a 23 or 25?
25c is what I have on it. You could possibly get a 28c on there, depending on the brand.
My first road bike was a steel Trek 370

Would a modern dropbar/headset fit on that bike? Let's say from 2015 forwards?
You can get a quill 1" conversion for a modern stem and bar setup. amzn.to/4gfmJ6q
@@IKnowAGuyBicycles that's awesome! Thanks for the help, that was always my main concern buying a vintage. Really appreciate it.

Yeah, I do question the cranks being OEM. I'm sure there is a story behind it.

With my hair cut and shaved, I've been freaking out people for the last two weeks. Fun stuff! Thanks for watching!
My wife road that exact bike (and color) in Ride The Rockies in the early 90s! I had a Trek Composite at the time.....
Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
When did you cut your hair?
A few weeks ago. Made a funny video of it. ua-cam.com/video/FGR1g4FvAoM/v-deo.html
