Led Zeppelin "Going to California" Guitar Lesson - PT. 2-3.
In this HD guitar lesson with Philadelphia based guitar instructor Rob Swift, you will discover more of the finger picking patterns heard in Led Zeppelin's "Going to California." The arrangement is an adaptation to the original work, intended to combine the mandolin and guitar parts for independent performance. This Led Zeppelin classic was originally released on the bands 1971 album, Led Zeppelin IV, available on vinyl at: amzn.to/1MHB9ux

I know this is an old lesson, but I just bucked up the courage to tackle this and wanted to comment. The clear and concise way you break down all of the steps for this lesson really helped. I feel this is an outstanding lesson. Thanks!
Compared to all of the other YT videos out in here this one was ultimately the easiest to digest thank you
Dude your videos for Going to California are great! It took me one day to get part 1 and 2 down, because of how well you break it down. I sub'd to your channel and look forward to seeing more of your content!
Bravo Sir......thank you for your time and generosity. I have always wanted to play this song and now I can thanks to you.
This is a great lesson, I love the in-video tabs...makes it really easy to follow along. Thanks for the variations too, they spice the song up for sure.
+mattymeis Hey thanks, glad you're enjoying this lesson. I'll continue to place overlays in the videos. For more advanced stuff, or tabs that are too lengthy, you will find those at patreon.com/swiftlessons. Thanks for watching Matt!

THANK YOU!!!!

+Hugo Mota Thanks so much, glad you're enjoying my work thus far. Much more on the way!
👍👍❤️❤️🎸Really enjoying this lesson. It’s quite hard for me as I’m not used to fingerpicking and I only have about 3 1/2 years experiences guitar - so just wanted to comment that having the tabs up on the screen makes a huge difference because I can pause the video and look at them for extended periods of time -without those tabs on the screen it would be very difficult so thank you for doing that. Slowly learning this and decided to stick with it because I want to get out of my comfort zone and try something that’s hard for me... and also because the Melody is just so incredibly beautiful
Take a look at classical guitar right hand technique. And you could try a song like Dust in the Wind, which is beautiful too, but not so complex. Regards.
@@juana1483 “dust in the wind” great suggestion! Thank u 👍🎸👍
For those wondering, like me, where the tabs are for the Dmag chord at the end are, you can see them in the review section of the next video.
Great video, very helpful. What gauge strings do you use?
you did an excellent job blending the mandolin and guitar parts together... consider the original recordings sounded so busy with multiple layers of instruments going at once. props for that, and a great video my man... only complaint- why did you have to pick white text to go over top of such a light color hahaha my blind ass is struggling over here lmao
Added some spice(: thanks!
could you please teach "Fields of gold" Sting

how long did it take you to put this up! finally.
+Spaghettini Meataballs Not done yet, I really need more free time!
god that's a beautiful sweater.
+Will Foley I'll tell my wife you approve haha!
+swiftlessons Hey, man, that gorgeous article of clothing aside, I've worked my way through all three of the Going to Cali videos over the last week and really do appreciate your efforts. This was my first attempt at proper finger-picking. When I started out, I thought there was no way I'd get it. Every single section took hours to get comfortable with but, having put the time in, I look down at my fingers and marvel at what I'm doing. You're a wonderful teacher and have played a big part in giving me a confidence boost in my playing. Thanks, friend.
P.S. Who makes that sweater?
Hi. I've been playing guitar (non professionally) for 20+ years. No finger style skills to speak of. I've been working on this song for the last week and progress is very slow and I'm wondering if I might have a learning disability (kinda joking) but this is very hard for me. From your teaching experience, about how long should it take to learn this entire song? Any help much appreciated.
Honestly this should take a while if you haven’t already learned a few basic Travis picking patterns, and drilled them into muscle memory. I recommend checking out my fingerstyle breakthrough lesson to build up your picking hand chops. Keep up the practice!
Hey swiftlesson, im with mojo21136, where's part 3? hahaha i need closure!
let me also just say thank you while i'm here though! your lesson are great, and I know everyone here appreciates the work you put in to make the shots just right. Much love!
Can you do a lesson on nothing else matters by Metallica?
+WolfEyesGreen Hey, thats a great suggestion, please add it to the list officially: goo.gl/s6rH26
Die a good man
Where's part 3?
+mojo21136 Hey, sorry it took me a while, it's up!
+swiftlessons Thanks so much. After playing on and off 20+ years this is the first fingerpicking song that I worked hard enough on so it actually sounds decent. Really appreciate your lessons!
way too many commercials dude
I’ll fix that right up, thanks for letting me know.
Great lesson but I wish you wouldn't wear a sweater that makes the tab blend in to it.
Yes! A black sweater and black guitar!!
a seuss chord? really?
Sorry James, that's how my instructor said it, and it stuck into my own vernacular. I've since fixed that for myself. I hope you were able to find something beneficial from this video.
I've been playing the song for many years and yes it's a nice refresher video and laid out really well for the solo musician. Nicely done! When you said "Seuss Chord" I got a visual of "The Cat In The Hat" that's all.
first
+Autumn Barrier Thanks! Hope you enjoyed the lesson so far! -Rob
If you don't have a good foundation for right hand technique, this beautiful song would be out of reach.
But what a great composition this guy put together that someone learning can work on!...Remember those songs that were out of reach at one time
Sassy pants Friday play that
