Here you really can experience the silly overacting of Bruno Ganz. He speaks like Hitler did in his public speeches when he was in a rage but in normal conversation Hitlers voice was much softer (there are recordings). This way Ganz makes it look like a bad caricature of Hitler. Very bad acting actually and got praised for it all over. The Goebbels actor is superb, he should have gotten all the glory.
I'm guessing you're not that versed into the background of the movie, or don't speak german, but that point of how Hitler should be portrayed was heavily discussed and debated during the film's conception. If you watch the making-of the movie, you'll hear Bruno Ganz talk about that aspect a great deal. He and the team took into account various records, from written to actual witness testimonies, that shed some light on how he acted like in those final days. Plus they considered the public outlook on such a character as well (it's a fine line to tread if you're going to portray him). Plus this scene you're judging the actor's perfomance over was the pinnacle revelation that all counter-measures from the German army was truly exhausted and that Germany will certainly fall at that point. I can imagine the real life Hitler acting the way Ganz portrayed him. Also, not sure if you've seen the rest of the film, but there are quieter scenes with Hitler in them and he's quite soft spoken there, so it's natural that he'd be out of himself with rage at this scene and not as soft spoken as you'd like him to be. I feel your description would fit Inglorious Basterd's characterisation of Hitler better. But I do agree that Goebbels, as well as the rest of the cast was phenomenal. It's just that Hitler is the titular character of the film and the driving force behind the entire movie, so it's natural that people would be focused on how he was portrayed.
@@kiwaminski I am German native speaker. Ganz was totally overrated for his performance. But I agree, I was exagerrating when i wrote "bad acting". It is not bad, but just not that good.
Hitler was completely stripped of energy by 1945, I think the movie strikes a healthy balance between the subtle loss of thought and responsive anger, we're only one step closer towards seeing a true portrayal of Hitler.

This movie is so depressing. Most wars don't end in a suicide pact. It was effectively lost long before the two fronts were on Germany's borders.
