  • Labradors that bark non stop can be incredibly frustrating as it is loud and you may even get complaints from your neighbours however you can train them not to bark.

Hi. I have a lab who is a good dog for the most part and good with my kids EXCEPT he barks his brains out aggressively at kids and people walking strollers outside my fence. He won’t come when called and if you get close to him he dodges, runs and barks more. I’ve had to lasso him like a cow girl just to get him to sit still for a second. I hate disciplining my dog. He’s so cute when there’s no small people outside my fence but we are thinking he’s anxious and needs to live on a remote farm somewhere that doesn’t have kid pedestrians. Any suggestions I would appreciate. Thanks

    Hi Will,
We have a 7mth old lab that barks incessantly once we put him outside and jumps aggressively at the back door. We have to shut the blinds and live in the dark to get him to stop. Any advice on how to stop this? We have tried repeatedly doing training outside the door with him as well as a tin rattle to stop the barking but he just keeps coming back at us.

My boy Buzz is great, just 1 issue. He’s barking at 5am everyday. It’s hard to ignore because I don’t want him waking the kids up. I’ve gone down and let him out then back in crate. I realise I have rewarded it. How do I stop it, is it just ignore until he learns it doesn’t work.

    Hi Will,
What would you do if the dog continues to bark when you put them in a sit-stay? I have a 2 year old anxious Lab that barks at strangers at home/work (he comes to work) but not out on walks. A sit stay doesn't work as he is too highly strung. Some advice would be fantastic.
    Thanks

My lab puppy is also similar so usually I put his nose to work during such situations, like holding a treat in my hand and redirecting his attention to it. I think this should help you

@@JoJo-qx5wc thanks JoJo. If I am to be at his side, I can help the situation a little bit with engagement, correction and/or distraction (slip lead/toys/treats) but this doesn't work perfectly, he will be grumbling/barking whilst focusing on me or eating a treat, his focus is sporadic and I have to work to keep him with me.

@@stuartchadwick5940 ah this is a situation that I haven't faced before, mine gets distracted easily but what he does is try to jump on and cling on to other people's leg. Haven't seen him grumble ever. I don't know if it's a breed issue or something but I fostered a doberman for a month and she was so calm and obedient. She was always focused when we wanted something from her, had my schedule been more flexible to give her 2+ hours of exercise every day then I would have adopted her. Labs are extremely playful and more easily distracted if the dog is a male

I have a 6 year old female Labrador, she didn't used to bark as much as she does now and it's becoming a problem as specially around young children/guests.
How do I stop my lab from barking & growling, and seeming aggressive as she's becoming an embarrassment.
