    I really respect the Renaissance Man, Aladino, for taking his time and using optimal materials and techniques in his work. Same with Maya's respect for the durability and beauty of her finishing work and material choices. It's all too tempting to develop a 'Git 'er done' attitude and end up with a 6/10 finished project,. I admire and respect you both! Best regards from an airplane, car, truck, house and commercial builder AND sailor from Toronto!

    The shaft and coupling should go to a machine shop I can tell you when you put the coupling in the shaft there will be runout on the face. This is eliminated by dialing the shaft to zero runout in lathe and taking a small cut across the face of the coupling making it true to the shaft ,I also check and correct runout in diameter which happens when you tighten the setscrews. I have done this fir a few boats including my own...zero vibration

    • @rl3898
      @rl3898 8 днів тому

      I don't necessarily agree with a machine shop being involved but, I would have made the end of the shaft a sliding fit in the coupling face end. The whole point of the split coupling is that it easy to fit and remove. After a few years yours will be almost impossible. The way I have done many is to relieve the end with emery tape to fit the coupling face end, put a bronze fox wedge in the slot to open it, fit to the shaft with just firm hits with a copper or lead hammer. Remove the fox wedge and fit and tighten the bolts. The only time that will slip is if you get a tarpaulin wrapped in the prop. How do I know!!
      To remove the coupling to service the stern gland , tube or other reasons just remove the clamping bolts and fit a fox wedge, to open the slot, the shaft will come out without huge forces. I doubt yours will !
      Well done on the flooring sanding, that takes huge courage and care, lovely work M.

      @@rl3898 Well I have been a millwright / machinist for over 40 years working within .0003 max tolerances and have done quite a few shafts for friends and have never had a vibration ,I also installed an R &D coupling on my boat that let's me check a and adjust alignment without coupling removal. Every shaft I have done when dialed in has had runout on face and diameter so I will keep doing it the correct way.

    👍👌👏 Oh WOW, a lot of progress happened. The observation deck on the bowsprit looks awesome. 2) I always like to see Maya's Dad. He's simply a great guy. 3) Aladino gets better (if even possible) the more difficult the work becomes. Like me challenges motivate him even more. Maya has become a prep work and varnish expert. Everything looks really fantastic already.

    Maya is really doing such a great job with all that tedious refinishing! My girlfriend helped me a lot on our boat project and the amount that took off my mind was astronomical. I’m sure he is super great full. Keep it up, my girlfriend and I over last winter redid some of a 24ft 80’s powerboat interior from scratch. 90% of the fiberglass and epoxy skill set came from countless years watching you guys. It turned out wonderful! Us too had to take it out for a bit to get some real motivation for the last stretch but it does wonders for your motivation to keep going.

    I don't think you truly realize the impact you have on people like me. Young Aladino has done nothing but create perfection in everything he touches. Maya, his incredibly talented wife with those striking blue eyes, is an exceptional violinist. And Brian, the engineer father, has quickly won the empathy of those who follow his daughter and son-in-law. What more can I say without sounding monotonous in my praise? But honestly, it couldn't be any other way!
