Thanks for showcasing the netherlands like you do. People dont know much about the netherlands apart from Amsterdam. But it has the best inland sailing ever and the waddenzee is just magical! Enjoy mate
Ooooooh Sparks....watching with your Dad & John....So entertaining & interesting- Thank You - Again!....Getting REALLY excited now - 2 more sleeps - BOOM🌟⛵️🌟 ..love, love, love ⛵️🌟Mum🌟⛵️
Once you get closer to where your folks live, your Mom is itching to paint your beams and cabin tops. I can see hippy flowers and groovy designs. Just let your mom go wild!!! 😉✌🏼✌🏼
Every time you check your speed, I can't help thinking. Get the anchor bridal out of the water, plus 2 tenths of a knot. Get the dingy out of the water plus 2 or 3 knots. Sailboats are extremely sensitive to drag, and it doesn't take much to effect the speed.
@@TheShaggy1960at first take of your comment I agreed with you as I was thinking of a monohull situation where you might be closer to your hullspeed but on a cat where you might be nowhere near it, I wonder if it could make Knot or two difference on an underpowered vessel.
Exactly each drag cause eliminated speed multiplies small things that makes drag make has huge difference specially at catamarans because they go to relative wind as they go faster half wind wind increases and give the extra speed and relative wind increase again and again resulting better speed.
Yes, it looks scruffy! But consider how far you have come! One day you will have the luxury of making it all pretty, but not quite yet. Be proud anyway!
Wow ... water bridges over highways ... mind blown .... out the box thinking .... i guess it does remove the issue of mast height , and trying / hoping to get tall mast under a bridge. So Cool to see you boat out Sailing after all your hard work. No doubt you will create many more Wharram fans. Love your Channel ❤
Look at you - Sailing and anchoring and living the dream - still..!! Woohoo..!! So happy for you Mark. The batterned main looks so sweet. Great episode, especially with a few cheeky interviews. Good one..!!
The autopilot is a huge step forward. Batons as well. Still have to sort out rigging from the cockpit and a boom but things are coming along nicely. Stay safe.
From a day one follower who join one of your live video chat then went and buy a 23 foot sailng boat now I have a 50 foot samson sealord . Thanks Mark you been a good inspiration
After all this time it's great to see you out on the water, sailing. Much respect! If still in the Netherlands next spring/summer 2025, I hope to meet you and maybe help crew for you when I do my cycle tour from Denmark to Netherlands. Stay safe!
Hi Mark last week s episode i put on a heads up for an anchor roller mechanism featured on the barefoot doctors channel that reduces the hauling effort by about 2:1 Looks like your mate has had a meniscus repair done... Rebbeca from Teuilu did her knee in working on deck and had to come back home for treatment from Mexico 😬
love seeing that. Brings back many memories. Maybe one day we'll be back to The Netherlands. My grandfather almost drowned when he was a boy on that what's called Ijsselmeer today. It used to be open sea then as the Afsluitdijk wasn't there. Those waterworks are truly amazing, And your videos gives good impression. Love it. As for sail battens. There are so many sailmakers in that area Mark. Just approach one of them. You need something good especially if you do not use a boom
Yes, my crappy unit lasted a month before it stripped its gears! I modded it with limit switches to prevent that in future, but its unbelievable. The manufacturer just expected me to fork out the cash for their more expensive unit that still doesn't have limit switches. They are totally not innovative, just milking their late '90's design for every last penny.
I’m just amazed at how much you have accomplished… I have to admit I thought you had made a huge mistake buying the Warren but I have to eat my words she a beauty!
Hello, One idéa for the broken battens: May be if you add a mainsail boom , you give a more flat shape to the main sail preserving more by that your battens, off course you must add a kicking strap to the boom.?????🤨🤔😉🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂 Bo courage ans stay safe .👍👍👍👍👍
Would be great if someone could sponsor you a set of well fitting sails, however, what do I know about sailing. The ones you have may be a great fit. Hope the new battens make a difference. I keep looking at the other sail boats around you and think you NEED a boom for your main sail too. Main thing is it is great to see you enjoying sailing rather than fixing 🙂
Wow! Thanks for sharing, the autopilot system seems amazingly well thought! The netting suits Mahi well and I am soooo curious about her finally meeting salty waters! Thanks for letting you and Mahi travel seas.
I love it when your Dutch comes a flying out ja ja ja. Reminded me of being a kid. It shortly did ja ja. Cheers from the flatlands of Alberta ja ja lol
Small Yamaha carburetors, suffer from the jet clogging often. My friend made system to lift his engines to deck height so he could service them easy. Then he bought Tohatsus. Hope yours are fuel injected
Great video Mark things are moving fast now and with new crew helping out you will be flying along soon the auto pilot will be a great addition too cheers from OZ
Sailing with a main without a boom and with broken batons and still making decent speed is impressive. When that sail is properly set up Mahi is going to be fast!
It's great to see you enjoying the fruits of your labors. You've worked hard and deserve to get out and enjoy it. Oh by the way the videos are just as good or better keep em coming
G'day Mark,, Another very cool vid, really great to see you & the boat finally getting some air / wind. Cant wait to see the journey ahead ,thanks for bringing it to the faithful. Respect ...!
Hey there Mark. Just saying hello. Your perseverance is admirable. Ive also been meaning say your dad is a bad ass, full of talent and knowledge. Anyway raise ur right hand and give urself a big long pat on the back. Keep it up.
Regarding the battens maybe You can be inspired by chinese lug rig manual or Rouel Parker article on wooden boat about budget racing mast! Fair winds !
Great to see you sailing away and fixing things as they come up. I’m actually very interested in the autopilot as I’m without one currently. I pulled up the website and will see about ordering if shipping to USA isn’t a total killer
New episode is the best thing that could have happened to me right now. Such a treat to get to enjoy the next installment of this saga and relax on a Friday evening. Thank you!
Grab yourself an ascender for rock climbing. It is very handy for getting extra torque on the ropes. Link it to a winch for easy tightening then tie off and release.
Amazing progress. You definitely need that boom to take some of the load off the battens. Perhaps you can laminate up battens using the wood you have with fibreglass. Keep going we will see you in the Caribbean very soon.
It was so nice to see "MAHI" out on the waterways and having some crew aboard to help you out! With your batten issue hopefully resolved, the sail can now give you the shape needed for great seaworthiness! I'm curious about how comfortable you are at night while at anchor? Has there been good holding to allow for you to get some rest? Seeing more of just how you "live" aboard would be nice for we your followers.
A really enjoyable episode, Mark. Thanks for the scenic footage. She may seem mangy in comparison to other vessels, but I think it's magnificent to see Mahi sailing north toward the Wadden Sea. I wonder if you're going to visit Sylt. Cheers to you and your mates❣
That felt like a proper sailing vid - like the old times. Great job of believin in yourself and puttin in the effort to see it through. Happy to see you get to this stage.
Great episode! You're definitely meeting interesting people! I may have to build one of those autopilot set ups... If anything to be a backup for my ancient Raymarine set
I am sure that you made those battons realizing that they might last for a little while. When I saw you putting those in there I was like okay let's see how that works out for you. That autopilot looks very interesting. I might need some more information about this young man and his creation I'm sure it will go through many different versions before it's perfected.

Towing a dinghy doesn’t cost you 2-3 knots, at worst maybe 1 knot, probably just .5 knots.

Bare timber use a mineral oil or linseed oil by the bucket, dead wood is not dead feed it to preserve.
