Ordinary Guy Makes Whimsical Unicorn Cake 🦄

- What is the most ridiculous cake out there? My vote is for the Unicorn Cake. I remember the first time I ever laid my eyes on one in the wild. I believe it was in Prague... a tasty bakery where I had a delicious brunch. I laughed at the ridiculous window display unicorn cake, not knowing that one day our fates would collide. Well, here we are... I find this to be a big trend right now, making cakes of literally anything. This was my first attempt at such a thing. It nearly broke me, but I'll be ready for round 2...in time.

OMG... the lustre dust flying off the island was 🤣 but the tea towel getting sucked into the mixer was so something that I would do. 🤦🏼♀️
I couldn’t stop laughing 😂
🤣🤣 Me too! That's one reason I enjoy him so much!
21:13 🤣🤣🤣
This was hysterical, I’ll never make one after watching this
I just saw that now,
When i warched a RATING video.... i rewound seceral times! Then i had to come and watch this although normally if i were tonskip any video here in this channel swimming with gems.. it would have been a unicorn cake video
Your channel is very underrated.
I am laughing so hard right now, this is my favourite episode and I’ve seen them all! I really relate to this one, this is me in the kitchen. 💜
I like how he keeps calling the different piping tips "nozzles." It's extremely amusing. I've felt the way he feels every single time I make a cake. It sounds like a fun idea but it isn't. It's fairly infuriating. My husband can't understand why I am in the kitchen swearing and yelling the whole time I make a cake...he's like if you hate it that bad why are you doing it? He doesn't get it...it's because I saw it on UA-cam and it looked like FUN.
For the past 24 hours I've been watching your videos, thoroughly entertained while living vicariously through your adventures in the kitchen. I'm a diabetic with about a hundred food allergies, and a vegetarian at that so most of the things I've seen you make in the last 24 hours of viewing I could never have. But I love these videos and seeing you overcome the struggles.
Granted this is an old video so you might never see this comment, but I thank you for making such wonderful content.
Feel free to ignore this. Did you consider your allergies may be because of your vegetarian diet ? Also, if type 2 diabetes, also may be from heavy carb diet.
@@x.y.7385 how could a vegetarian diet cause allergies?
I think we must be related! I'm a vegetarian, diabetic, and have food allergies as well.
I asked for one of those things that drops bowls from the sky for Christmas… Fingers crossed I get it from someone!
The bowl gremlin!
Love the fact that you don't give up when things are going to s#!t. This gave me a serious case of the giggles. I think you could do a 100% better if you had the right equipment.
Half the challenge is figuring out how to use the equipment I have!
Oh, I know! You're a mid-2020 quarantine dad making his 6-year-old a birthday cake! That's your vibe!
I'm admitting that I'm really enjoying your videos, really. This one made me laugh, but also *SO* much anxiety, lol. 😂
Fair play for sticking with it... and it turned out really well :)
When you go to make it next time, use vodka instead of water to mix with the lustre dust... it evaporates away quicker than the water will dry leaving the dust behind
oh really? amazing tip, I'll do that! ... that vodka will help for a lot of things
The turn table is very genius 😂
I can relate to the hardships in this video so much 😅 especially when you were just staring out the window and cracking open a beer😂
all stages of emotions. My god did that beer help...
I didn't realize this episode was such a masterpiece. One of the few videos I hadn't watched yet. Amazing.
The end result actually looks really good
phewf!!
piping buttercream seems so easy when you see professionals make gorgeous flowers, but then you try it and IT’S NOT
I just found Jamie and I’ve been binge watching older videos. This one made me laugh so much. I’m sorry it was at his expense….but…..thanks for the entertainment.
Don't ever stop making these videos!
I have never been so entertained OMG!😂🤣💕You are so adorable.
Why did I wait so long to watch this? The best! Jamie, you are a gem!
It looks great! Cake decorating is genuinely the hardest part of baking and it has a STEEP learning curve. Go easy on yourself.
I love everything about this episode, especially the profanity!
it took me a good hour to bleep out all those naughty words
@@antichef Personally, I appreciate that you got rid of most of it. This is only the 3rd video of yours I have seen. The two Julia Child dessert recipes I have seen are after this one, I believe. One of the things I liked about them is that you kept your sense of humor, didn't get all frustrated and vulgar. Seeing you bounce back with your comedy added to the experience; it encouraged people to just keep going.
I think you did pretty well!
The tea towel incident was hilarious 😂!
This video made me feel so much better about my attempt to make this cake! Hysterical! My sister and I made this several years ago for my nieces birthday and had similar experience. We did a rainbow cake and I forgot to add the food dye with the first cake bake. Argh! Frosting it was a nightmare and trying to get the horn made and attached was worse. Lol. Thank you for sharing! I’m enjoying watching all of your videos!
The piping bag nozzles almost did you in, but you prevailed, you knew you were in battle. The beer was a good idea. I was actually crying and laughing at the same time. I’m loving the videos and appreciating you, thank you!
My gosh, the dedication and patience you have for all the hiccups is unreal. Bravo for not giving up. I thought I was the only one getting it wrong after following the recipes to the T. 😜
I’m trying to watch all the videos from the past to catch up to 2022. I’m almost getting tired of saying, “I love your channel!” Not having watched all of your videos, my suggestions would be:
To make the American buttercream smoother and creamier, you can add heavy cream or milk. I’ve also used clear imitation vanilla-you get the flavor without the color that makes your icing yellow.
If you want a stiffer buttercream, just add more powdered (icing) sugar.
Butter is expensive! So, when necessary, I’ve used a combo of butter and shortening sticks (butter flavor). It’s smooth and creamy just like buttercream.
To make frosting easier, put your cake rounds in the fridge. They aren’t as pliable and the frosting adheres easier. Make sure to do a crumb coat, then ice that for about 20 minutes before putting on your topcoat. Keep the cake in the fridge between steps, makes it so much easier to work with.
I realize that I’ve probably come late to the party, but just in case you read or someone else needs the information …. Keep up the great work! I might be inspired to make a cake soon.
You seemed distracted and not focused (maybe because of the moving). But I admire that you never give up!
I definitely started out thinking I knew what I was doing, but when things go wrong with cakes...its a rude awakening! But we got there!
I only found your channel 2 days ago and have been binge watching. In the nicest possible way this is the funniest thing I have seen in ages. Well done for sticking with it and finishing even though you may have wanted to toss it out the window
I was shouting "close the fucking gold powder". 🙈 Too late haha. What I didn't anticipate was the towel in the hand-mixer. Dear god.
Great unicorn cake man! 🦄
When I saw your channel for the first time I thought that you don't cook or bake anything as it says ANTI-CHEF but since then all the videos that I've seen till date I have realised that you are an amazing chef✨
As soon as you brought out the hair dryer and I saw the open Lustre container I knew something bad was about to happen 🤣
Had to search for this gem after rewinding a dozen times to see it in the Making the Pancake Stack Showstopper from the Great British Bake Off episode. You should link this there.
Watching you work gives me an idea of how I am when I'm in the kitchen. I'm always too ambitious and end up cussing at vegetables, ovens and pans.
For the record: this is honestly the most hilarious cake I've ever witnessed. The eyes, the mullet, it's HORN hahahahahaha. I'm dying
You are an absolute joy to watch. I wouldn't attempt a fraction of the cakes you do. This episode had me laughing uncontrollably. Appreciate the cheer. 😂😂😂
That was one of the funniest videos I've ever seen. You are amazing.
After watching this I feel much better about my baking skills. 🤣 You get a gold star for perseverance ⭐
Wow 😂 that was like the cake olympics …..my favourite part was the floating gold particles and….the very last bit when your cameras fell 😅😮 laughed out loud . Thank you !!! Needed that❤
I'm "watching" while I'm doing other things and when you hand mixered the towel up into the mixer... My world stopped and I had to rewind. LOL
The end...where you dropped your stuff in the icing was too much...I busted a gut laughing. Thanks, I needed that! It's totally your sweet attitude that keeps me coming back for more.
I feel this video every time I try to bake. Fully support the beer and the cussing.
Jamie you had a stunning level of patience making this cake! I’m about to have a heart attack! Well done, sir!!
So funny! Seven minutes in and can’t stop laughing. Comments say your going to suck a towel into the beaters next. Guess I better sit up so I don’t choke lying down in bed.
Oh my gosh, I'm laughing so hard that my stomach hurts. I so admire your style, especially since I'm not the one who has to clean up after you. So much of what you do is unintentionally funny, which is the best kind.
I cried. I love this shit💕💕💕😅.
😊
I just love ❤your adventures in cooking and baking. Your determination is impressive. I usually give up well before it’s complete when things start going wrong. I always smile 😊 or chuckle 🤭 all the way through, that kitchen towel incident made me laugh 😂 😂😂out loud! I hope you know how good 👍 your videos are and I hope your subscribers keep growing!
Okay, been binging all your stuff, but this episode really takes the cake. The slow descent into madness and oh my god, the lustre dust flying everywhere, I can't stop laughing. So glad you kept with it.
Absolutely brilliant work !! Loved dust-gate and towel-gate 😂😂😂😂😂 I nearly fell off my chair !!!! I loved how much you hated this - I loathe cake decorating 💯
I have to give it you, your no quitter! I laughed some, I cried some, but enjoyed watching you. 😜
I couldn't stop laughing. Cooking is hilarious. I've been where you are. I'm encouraged. Thanks for making my day.
"Something up here is broken." 😂 Been there!
Oh goodness I’ve just recently discovered you and this is the best episode yet. I have tears running down my face and I actually snorted with laughter when the towel got sucked into the beaters. It reminded me of when my hair got sucked into the beaters once. You are such a delight to watch. I am loving watching how you are growing and learning in your cooking and baking endeavors! Keep it up! I look forward to new episodes but also watching the backlog I have yet to consume!
Much better than any cake I've ever made
it was a journey
21:13 I nearly fell off the chair laughing
Dude, new subscriber here. This video had me rolling on the floor laughing my ass of because I've been there so many times. Love your vids.
I am sick in bed with damn COVID. I have binged on my favorite chef videos. I forgot how bad I felt when I started watching these videos. I guess the Unicorn cake is my favorite. It's beautiful. And the video deserves an Emmy. So well done. I havent laughed this hard in months. Thank you.
It’s actually pretty cute! I think I might try this for my younger sisters birthday! Altho I think I might do a rainbow layered cake instead so when you cut it, it looks super pretty and rainbow!
You are literally LYFE. I cannot even. No words. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Just a tip. When you get the layers together freeze the cake before you frost it then when you are done frosting it thaw in the refrigerator. You are doing great love you determination and hard work
Always make double batches of frosting. Also you can add more sugar or liquid depending on what it’s looking like. The weather can affect it…humidity etc. you can also add a little cream of tartar to stabilize it. (Don’t add all the liquid at once, you may not need it all) Honestly I double my cake recipe too. It all freezes (frosting keeps well in fridge forever) well and you have cake and frosting if you need it…
I have never laughed so much at a cooking video. Well done!
I’m rolling with laughter… ohmygosh …. I started by watching his later videos and accidentally found this, so worth it as he’s come a long way
Best episode ever! Sorry that I'm laughing at your expense. Bakers work really hard to provide their beautiful, professional final products. Considering your lack of experience, you're doing a great job!
That was hilarious! I was hysterical through most of it. 🤣 Now I have a stomachache from laughing. Thank you! I needed this.
I fell off the chair laughing.
So entertaining ! So much so, I paused at the 13:00 minute mark and made myself popcorn. Continued to watch, with a yummy bowl of popcorn.
I will say you are a lot better at this now in 2022. You are an inspiration and I follow your videos and cook whatever you are. I think you should remake this cake
Your turntable thingy you made is a good idea. I take the turn thing that the glass plate sits on in microwave that seems to also work just fine.
oh that would definitely work too!
Can't stop laughing when the gold powder flew off! Not that I'm enjoying your adversity 😉
It took a good half hour for the dust to settle.... all over the house.
Unicorns and gold dust.. you're in a fairytale! 😀
Thanks for the great episode! Hope you are coping with the lockdown in Belgium! :)
This is the best. They frustration and resignation
Retired cake artist here, and I'm dying in sympathy! Even the pros have days like this lol
Catching up on your videos, love you channel. Boy did this one make me laugh out loud--over and over.
Hey Jamie. Love your videos because I can relate to them, especially the bit with the forever-melting icing 😵
Maybe you could try using swiss meringue buttercream instead of American buttercream (the one with butter and icing sugar) because it is way more stable. CupcakeJemma has a great tutorial on that. 🙂
Thank you! 💯 I think I need to stop with this American buttercream nonsense. It’s driving me crazy. I can’t stand how melt-y it gets. Swiss meringue next time!
Cracking a beer -- Well deserved!! Well earned!
About 2 years before this video, my dear, sweet daughter felt it necessary for my 65th birthday, to make a unicorn cake! As family legend told by my grandchildren goes, her attempts fell into the same realm as yours. My daughter, completely defeated by the abomination she had created, refused to present it at my party, and fell victim to the "easy fix". Enter Unicorn Cake from local "specialty cake" bakery. Paper unicorn horn gave it a child-like motif, and I felt a bit weirded out by that. Regardless, I told her I would have loved her creation, hideous or not. Sooooo... your video had me laughing so hard I had tears! Cakes are not meant for the faint of heart! Video was hilarious!
this is pre recorder pre corona video, I can still see the enthusiasm in your eyes :)
yep... couple weeks before the storm
@@antichef fakit it'll pass
Favourite video ever, ah the hair dryer and gold powder 😂😂😂
I love how you persevere! You have gotten so much better. Can't wait to see your videos.
Don't stop making these videos 👌🏼👌🏼 the best 😂.
I won’t! 🙌🏼
Sooo sick of seeing LMAO, so overused, but here I am, seriously hurting. Officially hooked. Can.Not.Stop.Laughing.
Of all the unintended sound effects in Jamie's kitchens (dogs barking, vacuum cleaners, sirens,) that horrrible screeching as the dumpster was dragged along the street takes the cake!!
I’m stealing the turntable idea, brilliant!
12:30 if this looks fun to you… your frustration is the fun part. Also, I…write down common recipes that I’mm gonna use over and over like well frosting. But this is so enjoyable!
You should try and make Dominique Ansel’s cronuts ;)
It’s on the list!!
Your killing me haha
I should’ve had you make my little cousins birthday cake. With the same big ass horn. 😂😂😂
Absolutely hilarious! ❤
Wow, what a challenging cake! Btw I used to go to yoga chanting classes down the street where you used to live when I was in Brussels too !
Just got to the lustre and my daughter and I are cake bakers and we are sitting here saying just add a little water then it's an edible lustre paint.
But we started this way. Would love to see you try again with what you've now learnt. 😉
Wow!! Looks great!! I felt your pain throughout the process :(. You did great!
Vodka, not water to add to powdered food colouring, hilarious video 😂
I know dozens of little girls who would swoon over that cake!
this is awesome!
So relatable 🙌🏻
LOL, I felt the constant pain Jamie was going through. I am sorry for your pain, but it created funny in my life.
this was so stressful yet entertaining lmao. I may be wrong but i think you can dry paint with luster dust.
I totally get the frustration but in the end it worked out... somewhat bombastically.
I made my wedding cake and I’m not at all experienced. I totally feel your pain.
😂😂😂 hope your move went well and you stay healthy
You are my hero!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Jesus that cheered me up
OMG please make another attempt.
