"If it were to sit in a Muji store" man this was somehow the best description ever given to this board and nothing can top it. I'm def adding this to my wishlist! And its pretty amazing that the owner himself explained the exact difference of those "gamer" keyboard" and those boards which I wouldn't say is for enthusiast but for those who want an "aesthetic" workspace. Take a rama board and a razer board for example. anyways, awesome vid man!
Really appreciate the interview. It's always fun to hear their thought process on a product. And you make a good point with how people entering the hobby, want a certain aesthetic but don't always want to go through the process of tinkering and experimenting. Well done!
Dude how have you made a video about a keyboard so good? This was the best keyboard video I've seen in a while, love it! And yes, I am totally sold on a Monokei now...
ooooft i love everything about this channel?! The video editing is chill, unique and subtle. The music is nice but also has soul. The lighting is beautiful and your presenting is clear and concise!! Hell yeah this is sick. Also the keyboard looks super clean! very keen for this to be my first TKL/80
So glad that another video dropped from my newest favorite creator! The MUJI analogy is a great one, especially since I just got back from Japan! Glad you're enjoying it.
Beautifully done avi! My only feedback is I do wish there was a sound test for the board, some more hands on content such as modding it, or comparing it to existing options in the same price range. Was happy to see you touched on the caps, and were able to capture MONOKEI's perspective quite well. There are some affordable TKLs, given they're a lil more low-key, and dont support an awesome community vendor - but regardless I'm curious as to how those differ from this. Overall tho, love the very engaging content :3
Amazing work as always! The sequence where the time goes by and the lighting changes but keyboard remains the main focus is so heart warming in a weird way. Thank you for a great video.
Man your video style is amazing - if you ever have more time available I would love to see other formats apart from keyboards as well :)) (ofc only if you enjoy making them)
It would be hard to say that this would revolutionize the keyboard market. Leopold has been doing this for years and Akko is doing this too which is probably what Monokei wants to be.
Two things: 1. Awesome video as always. I really like your style. 2. I think keychron is already in this market space where you said they hope to enter. Extra: About the design, I can not stop looking at the gap between F12 and Print Screen key. I think it breaks the symmetry. Those LED could have been above the array cluster.
i have the same thought as you. can't stop looking at that weird gap. wonder why they chose the leds to place there instead of the normal positions or even at the top of arrow keys.
God this was an amazing video, keep up the insane work man :) ❤️ I actually really enjoyed the part where you took suggestions from your audience and then opened the board despite being told you shouldn't 😂
Thanks Avi. This is video is so good, I had to watch it and now I’m late for work lol. I honestly thought this was a money grab, so great the folks at monokei actually put this much care and thought into this keyboard! Perfect way to bridge the gap between bespoke and average consumer keyboards.
haha thank you bro! stoked to have you back as always. yeah that was the main purpose of this vid - really unpack the intent of the product so it isn't misconstrued! stoked you managed to get that out of it too
I hope this one can add a numpad to the left to be 1800, price is not a issue, even jack up to $199 still pull the trigger. But layout is important, see how stupidly most designers still put the numpad on right, that’s the full size keyboard problem, you won’t be able to use numpad and your mouse or arrow keys at the same time when you are doing a spreadsheet or excel file.
Thanks for that in-depth look, Avi. Really interesting hearing the story of the board from one of its creators. Being able to buy this in a regular store or even on Amazon would be an amazing step for the hobby. If a custom board can break through to the store shelves, I think this definitely has a great chance at succeeding. Also thanks for granting my wish to get a peek inside the board :D
Another solid review mate. Looks like a great package and I love the aesthetic, but would hesitate to call it a game changer. It sits in a weird spot between Keychron's Q1 and V1. For me the price point is just a tad too high and I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable recommending a $200 plastic keyboard to a friend when you can get an aluminium Q1 for just $20 more. Very happy to see manufacturers focusing on the beginner market though; hopefully this leads to more competition in the future.
Thanks so much for stopping by again mate, and thanks for the feedback. Totally understand where you're coming from - I think my approach was more that it's a ridiculously high end team who see the value in good premium design but making it accessible for all. Game changer to me mostly responds to (hopefully) waves being created in the scene to push accessibility over exclusivity from keyboard "experts"! hope that ramble made some sense hahaha
@@AvinashKunjamboo Oh for sure it made sense! To your point, you showcased how much care and effort has gone into the design which is over and above what some of the bigger manufacturers are doing. Getting the designers to feature in the video is a great touch that I hope you continue doing. Keep it up mate, keen for the next.
the jazzy music always gets me. can you give me some of the song names of the duck switch video? love the style, and as i said, more underrated than glarses in 2020
great start getting into mass market, most people just buy their kb from logitech, razer, corsair, asus etc and honestly none comes close to custom like ikki68, tiger80 lite etc. problem is that its time consuming to go custom without modding them. lubbing, stabs modding, choosing keycaps all these takes time which someone who wants a keyboard doesnt wanna deal with thats why we call it custom. trick is to mass produce custom FEEL keyboard cheaply available adn monokei is doing it.👍
Hey Avi, loving your channel - in awe of your colour grading, I'm new to resolve and slowly getting there. Do you have any tips? Love the ambience and your greens/skin tone/glow, just buttery image all round. Using a Zcam S6 but seriously thinking of switching to bmpcc6k - from Adelaide myself too!
No way another Adelaidean! Thanks heaps for the kind words mate, really appreciate it. Honestly, I cheat it a little bit and I use the Dehancer plug-in for resolve. Definitely recommend checking it out! Otherwise, I prioritise not letting the highlights clip in camera, and then just balancing the whites and blacks with the log wheels - but you seem to do a sick job of that already! Love your work

Feels a little disingenuous to frame this as the only board to attempt to do such a thing. There are a lot of really great players in the entry level keyboard space that have already done what MONOKEI has done such as Keychron. This isnt a "game changer" this is just normal now.
