I don't know if I've ever clicked a video this fast! 😅
I've decided that the Tolsta will be my first garment. I am so excited!
AHHH this is so exciting! I called my mum today who has never knit more than a garter stitch blanket and she said she might give it a go too! So you can definitely do it!
Rebecca, good for you for embracing all these changes. At 28, I quit my job and my partner and I rode our bikes and camped all around Europe for almost a year....a perfect time in life to explore possibilities. (I'm in my 70s now!) I'm sure you'll land on your feet and look back at this period as one of growth and expansion. I'm currently knitting your Lanyard sweater in a forest green for the guy I cycled with all those years ago.
Congrats on the pattern release. You're making a lot of people very happy. I think it's brave to know when something is not working for you and making a difficult decision to release instead of fighting it. Welcome to your Saturn return! I just quit my brand new job too with nothing new lined up. You're not alone.
Hi Rebecca, I have gone through the rollercoaster of not being laid off when most of my team was, then leaving the company after a few months on my own terms. It's nerve wrecking, there can be some guilt also when your job is spared but you decide to go anyways. Nevertheless, congratulations!! I am sure that it will be nice change for you :)
It Is A Sarah made me fall in love with her Tolsta Tee! So excited to make this!
Well done on your success in your designing career! Yes, this is definitely a moment of transition for you, but what you say makes me feel like you are on a pathway of health, love and self care, which is all that matters. We will be here whenever you feel like you want to share some of your knitting joy 😍
It's so enjoyable to watch your podcast and see your beautiful pattern releases! You're always good company. Glad you're taking care of yourself.
Congratulations on the new release! I’ve waiting for this one! Thank you for being so open and honest. We all go through times like these. You will come out on the other side just fine🤗
Change is good and your commitment to self improvement is inspiring to me. I’ve been in a bit of a slump, not a knitting, slump, but kind of a downer. Knitting makes me happy, and I realized that I was smiling all through your podcast. Congratulations and all the positive positive things in your life. You look great and maybe that is a great additional benefit to being outdoors and getting some exercise. Do it while you’re young🦊😍.
Congratulations on the release! You're always a joy to hear from!! Take care!
Getting my Tolsta pattern today! Happy to see you back. You are always good company.
I think you’re thinking of the Saturn return, when the planet Saturn arrives back at the place it was at the moment of your birth. Saturn takes between 28-32yrs to cycle back round, which is why folk around this age find themselves questioning their direction, looking for stability, seeking foundations in commitment etc. Saturn sounds the clarion call that this is your life you’re living - so how do you want to live it? What’s important enough for us to invest our one wild and precious life in? Big questions. And whether we’re aware of those questions on a conscious level or not, I think we do all feel the wobble they cause. Next time we meet I can pull up your chart for you.
PS Love the SADvent quilt - looking so good!
So good to see you! Best wishes on your job search. I don’t know anything about it, but it seemed your previous job was overly stressful. I’ve been patiently waiting for the Tolsta Tee… the pattern is purchased, printed, and the yarn is ready to go! I’m currently about halfway through the Corran (loving it), but I will be casting on the Tolsta immediately 😊
Thanks for sharing your life update. I recently started a new job and while it's definitely better, it's also an adjustment. (And also I'm in the US and have several chronic health issues. Since a new job means differeng health insurance, my medications and everything always get messed up for a bit.)
I hope you take some footage of your train ride. I'd love to see it!
As for mojo, I've definitely lost my cro-jo recently, but that led me to finally take the time to seriously learn to knit and I love it. I feel the same way about knitting currently that I did about crochet when I started three years ago. In other words, obsessed. 😅
But I've knit a cowl and a hat, and now I'm doing another hat before casting on your Tolsta tee! I have no desire to make sweaters right now. 😂
Well, that's a bit of a ramble, but I'm excited that you're back. I actually filmed the first episode of my own fiber podcast - now I just have to edit it... 😬
Again, pictures are missing :(
Enjoy your ‘time off’ , your trip and your hike. Always a delight to listen and learn. I’m knitting a baby blanket and bonnet in colors of California wildflowers. It’s been a delight. Finishing a pair of socks and working through my first ever sweater. But hey, semi-retired, and simply enjoying life, nature and friends. Thanks for taking us along on your knitting adventures.
Congratulations on another amazing pattern!❤I can’t wait to knit mine!! I LOVE your advent knitted quilt idea!!! Enjoy this time off and keep taking care of yourself ❤
So inspiring to see your designs but also talking about prioritising health and well-being. 👏👏👏
Just purchased your Tolsta tee pattern. Can’t wait to start. Thank you so much 🎉
I met my husband at during the last month of my Saturn Return when I was 29. I’m not a woo woo person, but I’ll say It is a very REAL thing!! It’s full of ups and downs. The things that are meant to leave, leave and the things that are meant to come, come. Listen to your intuition and all will be well!
Great video as usual - I'm actually test knitting a knitted star quilt pattern right now. I love your 9 patch idea, too. I always wondered why there aren't any knitted versions of the Battenburg quilt.
Hi i bought the Tolsta pattern and now have the big decision of what to knit it in. Lol.
I have just cast on the half + half triangle wrap. I wanted some easy knitting as life is v busy at the mo.
Glad you are feeling better. You look and sound full of life 👏👏. Xx
Please come to Flock! I would love to meet you. I’m visiting for the first time this summer.
I’ve been wearing my Tolsta nonstop since I cast off. Thanks for letting me test. I can’t wait to make another.
I'm actually knitting a color work Christmas stocking right now but I have swatched for the Tolsta. I can't decide if I want to do skinny stripes or something else so I have analysis paralysis right now but I hope to cast on soon.
Such a gorgeous pattern- what really sold me was all the options included. Purchased! Xoxo
Great! Another installment! Im glad you’re doing well, Rebecca! :)
Personally, my knitting mojo is strong but Im feeling rather stuck : I’m over the winter knits but can’t find any mens summerwear patterns Im excited for…
Anyway. Take care :))
You just seem more "you" with this episode, and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing! The Tolsta is beautiful. I have been wanting to cast on all the things, but since I've been traveling (Moldova, to volunteer, and then Edinburgh and Shetland), I've been sticking to a pair of socks (I was gifted THSS5) and a KDD hap project. I have acquired a fair amount of yarn in my travels though, so I'm excited to cast on a cardigan when I get home, then may move to more warm-weather knits. (although there are also two shawls I want to cast on). : ) I wish you all the best in the unsettled-ness!
It’s your Saturn return. It’s returning to the place it was when you were born. Usually happens every 28 years ( give or take a couple years) Most people experience big shifts in their lives. I had my whole life turn upside down at 26/27, But you will get through it!!! ❤
I hope your new job is exactly what you need. Re the shift in the cosmos in your late 20’s, I’m almost 67 and can’t remember that far back, except to say that that part of my life was busy, stressful and not always fun. Retirement is awesome 🤩. I love your new summer tee and appreciate all the effort to create size inclusivity and a way to customize and make it our own. I love the lace cardigan too. Question - you mention you don’t buy hand dyed skeins often - me neither as to expensive. What type of yarn do you purchase then? Commercially made yarn? Is there such a thing? I knit a lot of stuff that I give to charity so use acrylics but would love to know what upsilons there are for wool that isn’t hand dyed. Hope that’s not a stupid question. I’m not a shopper and find yarn stores completely overwhelming 😱. Thanks Rebecca. You’re such a lovely young woman.
Can we have tolsta cardigan please ❤
Thank you for this lovely new pattern, I’ve been waiting eagerly for release day. It’s ok if your mojo is off. I’ve completely lost my knitting mojo, only because I regained my sewing mojo after a four year drought. These come in cycles, and that’s ok.
See you at Rheinbeck!
Hai, I love you r podcasts 😊 and the idea for Advent swop❤ looking forward to September for more information.
The Tolsta is really nice.
👋 bye bye
I love your idea for a quilt blanket! I had no idea that it’s on trend. But I love the idea of scrappy projects and advent patterns for possibly super random colorwork and I think this will be amazing and I can’t wait for the pattern release. (No pressure!) also really looking forward to signing up for the advent loop! As for your coherency and feeling like you were a downer you def weren’t. I’m glad you’re feeling better after what sounds like a stressful job and end of that position. I know that I wouldn’t be half that cheerful. Sending good vibes that you’re able to find something more balanced and that you’re landlord caves for a new fur baby! ❤❤
I have a suggestion for your advent swap. Have US and non-US would be good for shipping. But an acrylic and non-acrylic would be good too. My fear is that my person might be someone who loves synthetic yarn .
Going outside makes a big difference! Love the Tolsta tee and am currently struggling with a tee pattern so I think I'm Rip and use your pattern. Bought it while watching...
Instantly purchased the Tolsta pattern and some extra yarn to top up some stash to make one. Can’t wait to cast on.
Hahaha i know to you it sounds normal hahaha. It should!! But i can reduce it to 75 and thats great. It doesn't sound bad! :-) 75 is the first option youtube gives me so I'm happy wth that. Xx
I’m visiting my mum in the UK this summer and have had my WoolyKnit cone sent to her house! I’m so excited to try it. I need to be sure to make room in my suitcase for the return journey 😂 my second Tolsta will be knit with the cone in the Copper Penny colorway. Right now my first Tolsta is on the needles in KnitPicks CotLin.
I’m a new watcher. You were very good company. I had to disappear as soon as you mentioned your Tolsta Tee and head the Ravelry so I could favourite it. I will purchase that very soon and show it on my podcast in a couple of weeks. I’m currently knitting my very first Ranunculus and just finishing a sock design. Have a good trip. 😊
I was working on the Lanark but it’ll be a bit warm by the time it’s done so it’s at a good place to park until the autumn, I’m trying to use my time wisely and finish a crochet blanket I’m nearly done with but just can’t get round to doing the last two panels and making up so I cast on the Dupion shawl by Rowan as I wanted to use some Suri I bought at unravel in February….. but now I’m off to buy the Tolsta and some cotton yarn 😂 - this knitting thing is never boring 😊
How exciting to hear that you are coming to the US and to Rhinebeck. It is a large and overwhelming festival and there are events on the Friday prior as well. Looking forward to meeting you. If you need a ride to the festival, please let me know I will be staying in Woodstock.
Hi great podcast, very real that life throws us challenging times that affect us our schedules and our knitting time, love your quilt ideas I will be interested in seeing the quilting. Did you know there is a longarm quilter in the Scottish boarders who you could get to quilt your top for you? I have just had a top quilted that was started in the 1990s.
There’s a book you might like called Geometric Knit Blankets that have some quilt looking blankets in it. It’s by Margaret Holzmann
Seriously, I don't hope mine willcme at 28, I hope I am early, I lterally switched jos, moved towns and got engaged in the space of four months. Very happy to call that my saturn return. But believe me when you come out of it, it will be a lot more peaceful, and your life will suit you a lot better.
It is a disruption when the company you work for downsizes. I think you made good choice to look for alternative employment. Did you ever design a Cargill Hat or not ? Take life easy and go out at least four times a week. The yarn from Sklilsdair is gorgeous ❤😊
Saturn return! I'm about to be 49 and....that kind of transition happens over and over in life. it's growth! you seem to be taking a lovely attitude towards it.
Congratulations on your release Rebecca. I definately refouns my knitting mojo and want to knit all the things, including a tolsta obviously.🎉
Hi - I've been knitting for years but have no idea what a German short row is - please can you explain....just bought the pattern
I love the tartan bag…my grandmother is a MacLeod her parents came from Scotland..unfortunately they are sold out! really enjoy your podcast!
I'd love to test fingering weight Tee if you do test it. Please. 🙏
Dang! Came here on Monday and discount expired yesterday. My luck….always.
Lovely Tolstoy Tees! Would you please share which Cast On and Cast Off methods you used? ❤
Hello Rebecca. I am casting on the Tolsta Tee and would love to do the eyelet version. Do you have that pattern anywhere or the recipe for that? Thanks, Carla
Congratulations on the Tolsta Tee release!!! I bought my copy as soon as I woke up this morning and I’m so excited to think up how I want to customize it 😍
The scrap advent idea sounds great! What about calling it the December Yarn Countdown?
I’m glad you’re able to take a break and enjoy this break in your life, but good luck with job searching! 🤞🏼
I’m in an iffy place with my knitting because I’m trying to knit something to wear for my bridal shower in early June. I had two patterns on the go but I’m waiting for more yarn for the first one, the second one was a total bust, so now I’m onto a third one. All of this has made me feel like my knitting is a bit of a chore because I have less freedom. It will be worth it in the end I know it will. 🥰
Ive subscribed because I want to see how the design process works. There r many brilliant knitters (seen them in Ravelry) and see where u end up.
I love the striped sweater you are wearing. (Loved all the sweaters you showed). Thanks for the tip using the 8 stitches to make the neck a little tighter.
HI Rebecca
Great idea re scrappy advent.
Lynn Albany Western Australia
My knitting MOJO has been a little off as well. It so hard to stop and take care of ourselves but so worth it when we do! Be well!!
I think you might have broke Ravelry... the site is down. 😂
I'm so unbelievably excited about casting on the Tolsta Tee!! Already bought the pattern and printed it off yesterday 😅 and ordering the yarn from WoolyKnit tonight too (and probably more let's be honest haha)! Thank you so much for these podcasts, they really make a difference! Good luck with searching for a new job, I really hope things settle soon with the wild things going on 💞
You don't owe us any explanation. I love your podcasts, always looking forwards to them. And. Life happens. Hope it all works out for you.
The tolsta tee is very versatile congratulations. I will get the pattern. I have some yarn i think will work
I noticed that you look terrific! So you are doing something right!
Congrats on another wonderful pattern release! I love your idea for a patchwork/quilt style knitted blanket, I’d definitely like to knit one up! 🩷
But I loved your company! Thank you 🌞🌸💋
I've been looking forward to this release! I feel like I'm all over the place with my knitting mojo right now - I want to knit a bunch of different designs so I feel like I'm paralyzed by indecision at the moment 😂 Plus I've got school and stuff to do and I know I should be devoting more time to that as well. So many things to knit and so little time 😅
What a beautiful photo for your opening photo of this video !!!!!🥰
Thank you!
Hello Rebecca, the Tolsta is my first-ever purchased pattern. Finally, a noncomplicated but beautiful raglan design Tee pattern. THANK YOU!!!
I wouldn’t exercise if I didn’t have a dog 🤔
I’m certainly happy your podcasting. Ive kept looking out for your next one.
Got the pattern. Got the yarn. Just have to get one of the four items on my needles done first!
So funny, UA-cam pronounces your podcast CreeBee
I was on a knitting slump for the last few months, but recently started again. Just finished the Knus Light using Knitting for Olive Pure Silk in the color fuchsia. That is totally outside of my normal color range. Next I’ve cast on the Minimalistic Tee using Bio Balance in the color Passionflower. It’s a medium purple. I just downloaded the Tolsta Tee and received my order of Drops Belle just in time. Talk about going from zero to 100! Glad you’re taking more time for yourself. It truly is important. Enjoy this breathing space between projects and work.
I really enjoyed this episode, the changes you’ve made over the last couple months look good on you!
Healthy, happy and safe ❤, I love how you lift yourself with that. Life is NOT always smooth, there’s a lot to be said for rolling with the punches and I’ve also learned the people you love, moving my body outside, enough sleep and yes, a dog ❤ are huge stabilizers when all else is crazy. You’ll come through just fine and the next phase will be beautiful and exciting. I’m so jealous of all your local travels… all places I want to go but haven’t yet gotten to (I’d have to get over to Scotland first 😅).
Since it’s been such a chilly spring my knitting mojo has remained, I’m just so slow that I never get to as much as I’d like and my list of things I’d love to knit grows longer. Currently finishing up the Pearl Cardigan by Sanne Fjalland. Good luck with those interviews and the landlord!!!
I love your quilt Advent design!! What an awesome idea!!! And I'm super excited to join your Advent Swap!!
Congratulations on all the patterns for magazines as well as the Tolstoy. I’m currently knitting a Corran cardigan. Loving it. Just onto first sleeve. Using fabulously soft ; ply merino from Mile High Merino in NSW Australia. Take care
Hoo boy, I don't think the Big Weird Change is limited to a particular age - for me it's been stages. I could talk for ages about my midlife crisis at 32 and where it's led me. Now at 40 I'm having another shift (including job loss/change), but I know myself a lot better now, and I'm able to give myself grace and rest when I need to. And I'm letting someone else teach the 17 year old to drive. 🤣 Hope it's a smooth transition and that you find yourself in a job where you feel welcomed and supported and like you thrive.🥰
I was so excited to see the viaduct at the start - I've been there! But I live on the other side of the planet, so probably not visiting again in a hurry. 😂 I fell in love with Scotland when we visited, and I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Hi Rebecca…so Good to hear from you! You look “brighter” on this podcast!!! Kudos…take care of yourself first and the rest will fall into place!!! Love the Tolsta pattern…I purchased it today!!!! Congratulations on the release and take care!!!
Dear Rebecca; You are always a delight to listen to; your content is enjoyable and inspiring. Really love following your design process; so fun to see how your lovely patterns are created. Especially excited for the Tolsta pattern launch; it is just my style; looking forward to having a few of these in my wardrobe. Outdoor activity is so important; thank you for the encouragment to get more myself. Wishing you the best on your job search; hoping you find a good fit. Take Care and Happy Making !! ~ Best Regards, Lori
I think you're always good company, Rebecca. I'm delighted to see you back. I don't know what the celestial change is, but I think I went through it too, in my early 30s. I love the Tolsta. So cute. Re: advents: I've heard of people using "countdown" instead of "advent" to be more inclusive and secular. For example, everyone gets a solstice in late December, and everyone gets a new calendar year on January 1, so depending on when you're doing it, you can usually find a non-religious occasion to count down to. Good luck with that endeavour!
Hi Rebecca. I've been going through a knitting slump too so you definitely aren't alone. I'm in the transition from English knitting to Continental, which has zapped my mojo. It feels like writing with my non-dominant hand... ah well! It'll click into place with time. Life tends to click into place eventually, doesn't it? I hope yours does soon!
AHHH! You're back!
It would be so amazing if you came out for Flock :) Jess and La Mercerie are super awesome.
Please allow yourself to take a break and have time to get your mojo back. Your podcast was the first one that I continued watching when I first started knitting and now I'm hooked :) It would be great to see your videos more again (but no pressure lol)
Knitting is picking, since it's winter in southern hemisphere 😅
Finally! 😍I've been waiting for this release ever since you announced the test call! Can't wait to cast it on!
Also, soo proud and happy you'll have a pattern in pompom magazine ! That is a-ma-zing! Congratulations!
Curious to see how the "Quilt" will come out!
Hi Rebecca , I’m watching your podcast In our kitchen, my husband is pottering around making his toast , he heard you saying “ I looked cute “, he glances over and says “ Aye she looks cute” , I’m in stitches , he is nice but old enough to be your dad. 💕 That’s men for you eh !. 💕
My yarn for the Tolsta should arrive today!!! I'm so excited to cast on! 🥰
Hi Rebecca, you are always good company which is why if I don't see your podcast in my feed regularly I go looking 🙂I knew there would be one with tolsta coming out. There are so many options with this pattern that I'm stuck on what to do first but it will have the picot edge.
Please can you tell me who makes the tartan bags, I love it and wonder if I can get one online? Good Luck with the job hunting, I hope you find one you love!
Oh I should have added it to the show notes. It's midwinter yarns. Bags here: midwinteryarns.com/handmade-project-bags-31-c.asp
Can’t wait to knit it and be creative.
Congratulations on the release. I love that the pattern came with the mods pdf, thank you! I went through big changes when I was pretty well the same age. Up and shifted cities. I don't do change easily and was terribly homesick to begin with but it proved to be the best decision I ever rmade. The new job I went to felt like a homecoming, I met my husband there and I made fantastic friends for life. Maybe it is a celestial thing... In keeping with the celestial theme, a suggestion for a more inclsuive "Advent" thing could be a December solstice calendar. I'm in New Zealand where it's our summer solstice then and I got a Summer solstice yarn calendar. I loved that it moved right away from a term which still carries religious connotations for me and tied in with something seasonally appropriate for us. Thank you for keepig me company during my knitting - i'm working on a Shetland shawl. Take care x
Hi Rebecca! I am so excited about the Tolsta! I kept checking daily if there were news 🙊 Congratulations! Loved the podcast, glad you decided to leave your job as it did not work for you 👏
Thank you for this episode! I, too, have been traveling and too busy to keep up with you and a few other podcasting people I love to watch!
Yesterday, I purchased your Tolsta Tee, and last night separated the sleeves from the body on the Corran… and today, I got to watch you!
I love the variations you offer, and the details you include in your patterns.
Happy to hear how you have added exercise and healthy eating into each day. Yes, life is like a chapter book! Congratulations on your adventures to come!
Enjoy your holiday, and happy everything 🎉
Nice to see you again! I was thinking that you looked especially radiant today... must be from all the fresh air and exercise. Good job! 😊 Good luck with your job search!
So nice to have u back - you were missed. Congrats on the Tolsta release. I bought mine straight away and can't wait for the fingering weight addition. Think I might even wait for that and do that one first. My knitting mojo is still strong - it doesn't get affected by warmer weather, I just knit lighter things. I'm knitting on the summer sorrel at the moment, as well as the Cargill cowl. Oh and socks! 💕
Congratulations on the pattern release. I’m enjoying seeing all the versions coming up on Instagram. I’m definitely going to be knitting at least one. Liking the sound of your knitted quilt. Will be following your progress on that with interest. Well done on having a design accepted by Pompom, that’s amazing! Good luck with the dog request and with keeping up on going outside!
I've had that happen with a job too and you just need a little time to find your footing and right yourself. All will be better in the end. And you have your designing career too, so you will still feel productive. (((hugs))) because it stinks, but I am of the mind that the worse the thing that happens to you (workwise) the better the thing that comes out of it and it was certainly true for me! It will be for you too. Love your new design and all of the versions. Hang in there!
That last point about a shift between 28 and 30. No idea if it is celestial but I've had EXACTLY the same thing happen! Everything has been all change in the last 18 months. It took ages for things to feel like they were moving in the right direction but omg they finally are and it's amazing! I hope your life settles soon and gets a little less chaotic ❤
Also cannot wait to get started on a tolsta. I've been gift knitting and it's kind of shaken my mojo. A selfish, summer knit is just what I need 🤩
Happy pattern release day! I can't wait to knit up a few tolsta's but have unfortunately had to impose a cast-on ban as my thesis deadline approaches but I'm thinking this will be my reward cast-on when I'm done, I've got my eye on some beautiful yellow yarn.
I bought the Tolsta Tee pattern just a few hours before your podcast! I will start it after finishing my Anker Tee 😊 and I want to knit some summer sweater for my son! Enjoy your time! I would love to travel to Scotland some time in my life❤❤ and buy loads of wool I guess 😅😅
Yay! The Tolsta Tee....yarn is all lined up! Love your podcast, you are such a joyful and delightful person; sorry you are going through a wee quarter life crisis but I think you are brilliant and will find your way ! I am always excited to see what you will come up with next!
