I was at this show. Came very skeptical but after I heard this i was in. I have listened to every Althea by D&C and this is hands down the best. Ramble on Rose from Deer Creek in 16 is sweet as well. Row Jimmy from 2018 at Deer Creek was also incredible
I just got my tickets for the summer shows. I love the Dead and even though John is no Jerry he Definitely holds his own. I was at three shows last summer. Camden Saratoga and burgettestown. I'm a believer! John put his big boy pants on
No, he does not, but he is Bobby and you can't tell him not to sing. He's 70, tons of drugs and wear ans tear on voice have taken its toll. For some moments he can recapture the glory days, but for a whole show it can get painful to listen to his voice die on him.
John Mayer shouldn't be-- and isn't-- Jerry. But I will admit that there were couple of seconds during this song when the hairs on my neck stood up a little, as though I'd heard a ghost.
John did a great job as far as I'm concerned. It got better as it went along, too. towards the end of summer tour they were sounding fantastic. Some truly magic moments. Having said that, no one I've heard so far has been able to pull off a decent Althea. It's time to retire that one maybe?
You guys are absolutely right. I take it back. Don't retire a single thing. As long as they have breath and willingness I want to hear everything they want to play. John is playing quite well and he's doing his own thing. He's honoring Jerry's place and not trying to imitate. Keep truckin' on fellas.
