We are doing a new comparison for two of the best 5 seater airplanes in the industry. If you have about $100,000 budget to spend on your next airplane and you need to carry more passengers, The Beechcraft Bonanza and Piper Lance should be on your shortlist of airplanes.
Mission - Both aircraft are capable cross country machines with similar performance characteristics. The Bonanza will take you up to 700 miles while the Piper lance will take you up to 800 miles
Design - Which aircraft looks the best? well this really will depend on pilot and owner. Both airplanes are low wings with retractable landing hears. The piper lance will carry more load and it's got multiple doors for easy entry compared to the Beeachcraft Bonanza
Comfort - Which aircraft can carry all five people in best comfort and relaxation? This is a bit tough because the cabin space for both airplanes are quite roomy and spacious. Piper lance does have more seats (1 to 2 more seats than the bonanza). Although those back seats in the Lance are facing each other so you would have to share leg room. The Bonanza, has great features to provide ore leg room in the front. You are able to tuck away the rudder pedals on the right side. Also the Bonanza has standard front facing seats.
Performance - which is the best performing airplane? Beechraft Bonanza airplane has A Continental engine which has a power output of 280HP and allows the plane to cruise at 180 miles per hour. Whereas the Piper Lance uses a Lycoming engine with a power output of 300 horse power. This allows the aircraft to cruise at 165 miles per hour.
Purchase Price - Both aircraft in good condition will cost anywhere between $100,000 - $150,000

Love the video, but some of the information is incorrect. At 58% power burning 11 gallons an hour, the BE 35 S model with an IO-520 travels at 175 mph. Turn the screw up and it cruses 200+ mph all day. The overhaul cost of the engine for both is off as well. It is $40K to $65K for either engine. Depending on rebuild or new. There is also aftermarket air conditioning available for the BE35. Most of the Lance planes I have seen do not have air conditioning to reduce cost and weight. Both are comfortable. Both are dangerous if the pilot is not trained properly. The Lance is a great hauling machine and handles like a truck. The Bonanza is nimbler by comparison. If hauling is important, like the family truck, get the Lance. If moving faster is important with a more sporty feel, Bonanza. Both are fantastic platforms and either is a great choice. And PLEASE keep the videos coming. I like it!!!

I would add some perspective having flown both and many others, fully loaded passengers and fuel for touring. Firstly the lance is just a Cherokee six with retracts!. The lance carries around 230 pounds more has way more room in the back and way more passenger friendly, around 10 to 15 knot slower than the bonanza, the bonanza which is really very cramped and a nightmare for passenger ingress and egress , you load it to the max with favourable winds and your just on 500 miles with VFR fuel reserves, the lance about 200 miles more, so around 700 miles, they really are anything but evenly matched for touring missions!. Best bang for the buck in my view for such missions is what I have now a Trinidad TB 20 gen two, 5 seats , 1,230 pounds useful load, roomy seats, and very passenger friendly, with air cond standard, 165 knot 75% power, cruise at 8000ft and in the flight levels 185 knot cruise, around 1100 mile range from a far more fuel efficient 250 horse power engine and the best IFR equipped platform out of any of them straight out of the box, far cheaper on maintenance and parts too. Finally I have no idea where you think you can get a performance six cylinder complete overhaul for around 25000 bucks, more realistically you are 40000 to 50000 bucks.

The comparison between these two aircraft ENDS when weight and balance comes into the picture. It isn't how many seats are in the aircraft, or what weight limits the baggage/cargo compartments are placarded for. It comes down to the combination of people, fuel, and baggage. What determines range? Fuel on board. How much FUEL can I take with six adults? How about six adults and 25lbs of baggage each (150lbs)? Is the best you're gonna realize an hour's worth of flight time? Does the aircraft even fall within the weight and balance envelope for takeoff? How about for landing? Fuel is the variable - therefore, fuel determines range. NOT the manufacturer's MARKETING numbers.

V-Tail Bonanzas are extremely difficult to fix if there is an issue with the ruddervators due to the magnesium skin that is used. There is no STC or PMA for a replacement skin and the material is nearly impossible to find. If a V-Tail Bonanza has its tails damaged, the aircraft is grounded unless the owner is lucky enough to locate a tail from a salvaged airplane.

  • @tonycalder2950

C210 faster ,safer ,bigger ,longer range ,more all up weight, why would you consider a five seater?

  • @christopherbatty3837
    @christopherbatty3837 3 роки тому +1

V-tail Bonanza handling characteristics: you comments are not correct. I have operated as revenue earners, nearly all GA types including the two you focus on.
The only distinctive (non dangerous) feature inherent in the larger surface area* V tail surfaces, is fishtailing, predominantly in approach configuration. Bonanza series are 10-15 Kt faster in crz config on less power. The Piper exhibits dangerous characteristics at high alpha exacerbated by above~ISA operating environment.
It would have been fairer to use the Bonanza A36 model as closer in extended cabin volume and similar double rear door facility.
(*early series V tail had rear surface area 1/3 less.)
RANGE: range for fuel/payload will need examination - noting ZFW limitation of Lance.
Lance: with A/C - unfair point. Noting, under normal seat occupancy, air con unit scrapes tarmac surface in ground- operation extended position. Weight of the unit detracts from fuel/payload. Seating: club seating not universal, some had all facing forward with better leg room for all.
Engine: Lycoming = bulletproof. Continental IO-520 crack barrels frequently and descent planning ref engine CHT cooling rate is a constant consideration. Continental also require top overhaul @ approx 1,200 hr.
Check also, TBO both engine types AND SB ref wings falling off Piper types - multi-facted fracture points of front, rear spars and multiple gear bay points.

Great video but it would've been more akin to compare the F33 to an Arrow II or III. The lance/saratoga would've been more appropriate to compare to a A36 beechcraft. You also forgot to mention the fit and finish of a beehcraft is by far better than a lance as-well as it's flight characteristics. Beechcraft also tend to have a higher maintenance costs than the lance would.

I see at least one of them completely destroyed in every monthly issue of NTSB Reports - usually two per issue. And as far as that goes, Bonanzas rank right up there also in total aircraft lost per month. Of course, I'm being facetious, but there does seem to be an alarming trend in PA32R crashes over the last two decades.

The Lance has surprisingly poor glide ratio, some say 7:1, bonanza seems to be around 11:1. That probably accounts for the difference in speed and fuel burn. Might well be because the Lance cabin is more boxy, doesn't taper down immediately like the Bonanza does. Aero is soups important. Both are chunky old birds at about a ton. Not good for fuel. Why the Sling outperforms them. It weighs half although not retractable gear. Interestingly a Cirrus SR22 burns more fuel and weighs more than those old birds. That's actually a fail.

V Tails are a vanity purchase, and a negative lottery ticket. If you can’t afford a 200k Bo, you can’t afford a 100k vtail.
Six seat pipers are decent planes for 4 adults. Just be realistic on whether you need more than 2 seats. I find the back seat gets used once every couple of years. Most people would be better off with a four seater. Buy for the mission you will use, not the one you want to use.

Both planes are relatively difficult to fly. The Lance shown here has a conventional tail, which handles better than the t-tail. But overall the Lance doesn't handle very well, and it requires a lot of runway for takeoff/landing. The v-tail Bonanza is sporty and handles well in good weather, when the pilot can make corrections based on visual cues. A lot of v-tail accidents happen in IMC. Neither of these planes inspires confidence in turbulence. The turbo-powered Lance has overheating problems. I would pass on both of these planes and buy a 5 seat Navion Rangemaster, if you can find one.

450hp.. × 2... that's pretty good on a small airframe like that... it's got boosted pressure for high altitudes.. and I can fly around the World 🌎🎶.. still working on recovering from my long illness.. any day now... Mike... thanks for sharing your adventures 😊.. sell a few bro... it's good for you

A/C in a airplane like this is useless.

If you are in a hot climate and a busy airport it might be comfortable on the ground and low levels

@@rafiqsaid4297 i'm in south america, and we got used to it. As long as the engine is running and feel a light breeze from the prop it's good.

@@jeantsaiaviation My father had a Fuji Fa200-160 and on hot days you can slide the canopy open. Even during flight and gives a nice breeze .A/C is also lot of weight and exist out lot of parts so lot of extra costs too. But I'm from the steamclock age comfort was not so much important. Its a plane and not a car LOL today a plane must be like a luxery car

He knows so much of nothing actual. You can tell he's not an actual owner. He just searched retail sites and knows nothing at all. He should never purchase an aircraft.
