The opening scene, where Sarah is holding on for dear life always makes me short of breath. I imagine myself in her position and it freaks me out. To quote MACGYVER, "God, I hate heights."
I remember watching this in the theater with my dad in the summer of 93. This movie was so much fun. Still holds up too. One of Stallone's many classics.
Reminds me of the time Randy Savage died. I was saddened as I grew up watching him wrestle all the time. I thought, Why did he have to do dope and die like the others. Then I read the rest of the news story and it turns out he tragically lost control of his pickup and crashed into a tree. Meanwhile, all the other wrestlers were dying of heart attacks or other symptoms all related to constant drug use.
Cliffhanger is such a great popcorn action movie and stands the test of time. John Lithgow became one of my fav actors from the 90s after this movie. His ability to play such a great bad guy in this movie along with being able to play such a great good guy too, see Harry and the Hendersons for that performance, just makes him so well respected. All of the actors did a great job in this movie. But you know who really stands out, least to me :)
You forgot one Minty. Stallone is absolutely terrified of heights. So all the scenes where ol'sly is dangling from a rope and what-not from thousands of feet in the air is movie magic. In reality, Stallone was never higher than 3 feet or so off the ground.
Now that is funny. A star with agoraphobia making a mountain climbing movie. I worked with a guy that seriously freaked out on the second rung of a step ladder he was so afraid of heights. He was a big guy too. We were all like come on. You could face plant from the top of this puny ladder and not get hurt.
Man, I LOVED this movie! Totally under-rated! I think this was during a time when nobody could think of Stallone as anything other than Rocky or Rambo. So it was hard for anything else he did to really stand out, no matter how good it was! Over the Top was another great one!
I loved Cliffhanger it's one of my all time favorite movies by Stallone, i can still remember going to the movies to see it when i was in high school. Thanks Minty 👍👍

So I watched it a lot and yeah the one of him hanging from the rocks that was the one released to Rhode Island anyway. That's weird though for a movie that I really liked as a child I never seen those photos all those posters.

Minty said it. This movie is a great popcorn movie. I always enjoy re-watching it when I get a chance. John Lithgow is such a bad ass in it too. His performance was amazing. This movie shows that he has acting range, from here as an evil man to a simpleton in 3RD Rock from the Sun. How can you not like his acting in this movie. Thank you for the 10 Things review Minty.
