- How to make a Queen Loft Bed with Desk for a Small Room
A friend of ours recently purchased a new home for his family. The floor layout is nicely done, but the bedrooms are a little smaller than they are use to. So they asked if I could build their daughter a loft bed that would hold her Queen-size mattress.
This is a total custom design that fits their needs and can be easily copied and modified to fit your needs.

It was great to see a project that did not require drilling into the wall!
for real, my walls are made of paper basically
For everyone asking why she has such a big bed, not every family is rich enough to get their kids the bed they need. We got hand me down beds from them or family, after we grew out of our toddler phase. It's very common to just happen to get it, more than on purpose. And even if it's not on purpose, mattresses last a while. With her age, she will have a bed to take with her when she moves out, which as a parent, is very comforting.
BS! A single is much cheaper than any other size
@@gabrielgomescunha I wasnt reffering to buying s bed. i was reffering to people who get hand me down beds and dont have a say in the size.
@@gabrielgomescunha did you not see my comment about it not reffering to buying a new bed , but getting a hand-me-down
I was raised by my grandma who wasn't by any means at all rich and she bought me a pillow top queen sized bed for my 13th birthday that is still in perfect condition at 27 so yeah, I totally agree with you. She did me a kindness that has benefited me for over 10 years, well worth it if you ask me.
thats crazy but we dont remember asking
Sweet build! I love loft beds and they are fun for kids too, especially when their space is already limited. It's a great way to do "double-duty" in a small space. 😀
I love this I got my loft bed yesterday and put it together today love the tutorial 😀
I've always wanted one of these beds. I have a small room and one of these would be great for me
Your video helped me so much to build a queen loft over a Cali King!!! Thank you!!
What a great idea for a smaller kids room. It opens it up even though it is a smaller room. Even if you had bought one of similar style you would have had to assemble it piece by piece. Great work. I like it.
Thank you very much
THANK YOU! (a MILLION times over!) for making this vid so i could ACTUALLY HEAR IT on one of the (ususal) current machines that don't seem to want to make a device that is capable of actually being turned up loud enough to hear! and then the vid makers keep their vol. turned down as well! arghhhhhh! In addition to a great, informative vid that i can watch(because my ear is not glued to the bottom edge of this thing) !!!!! i can hear what you say! wow! the good ol' days!
Awesome build. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for the info, just what I need and I can adjust it to the size of the mattresses no need for a plan.
Great job!
Great job!!
beautiful work!
This is so so cool, I would love to have this, it'd save so much space!
Awesome 👍🏾
excelente trabajo saludos desde venezuela
i just built my 4 year old daughter a loft bed, but for her i made safe stairs because of her age. she is well protected believe me.
Wow, good job, ur skills keep Improving
Thank you
awsome
Thanks for the tutorial. The bed is oversized for the room which creates problems in itself. But to each his/her own.
I know this video is around 3 years old now, but I want to warn folks that when you put a loft bed in a room with a ceiling fan, you should consider moving the fan mount out away from the bed so that people in the bed won't be struck by the spinning fan if they forget that its there. My daughter got hit in the face with the ceiling fan in her sister's room. The fan blade hit her about an inch away from her eye. The fan was moved shortly afterward.
Amazing build! Nice bed and also simple. I'll be using your design to build a full sized loft bed for my children! Thanks!
Hii, Do you have the dimensions of the wood? I am looking to make one exactly like this. Thank you :)
If u replay the video he mentions the lumber used. the dimensions of a queen Matt Is 60x80. Good luck
@@corar07 No he doesn't, and that is just the dimensions of the mattress. Not every piece of wood needed.
@@crimsonmcknight635 he clearly says the wood is pine. and if you need to be bottle fed every tiny bit of information then you are not skilled enough to build one of these
I like your video
Cool
I'd recommend somehow securing those slats. Even under the weight of the mattress, they can slide around and create support gaps. You could screw them to the cleat or staple some webbing across them to maintain proper spacing.
Pretty sure I saw the screws in the slats. I doubt very much he's going to let something that important slide, knowing there could be risk involved.
Creat idea for the desk & shelves!
Thanks for this! I want the project but for an adult. What wood would be great?
Wow super gift for your daughter....
Thanks for posting this vid. Just created one for my daughter using your method. I would say that for the slats, upgrade to maple as they're much stronger and won't flex like pine.
Planning on building a twin size one like this over a full size futon
That should be awesome
I need numbers man, Numbers.
Seriously awesome project.
A Checklist of the supplies used would be super sweet.
Seriously, I'm fast fording and rewinding to make a list of what I'm seeing.
Were you able to get any plans?
U r awesome
WOW, that came out great!
It blocked the window, aslo if the frame was one colour white or pink...
It's a great bed frame, looks strong and well made.
keep on builder bro...
Where can i find all the details on this build from hardware to lumber?
He mentions the lumber needed in the begining of the video build and a queen Matt is 60x80. Good luck
That's great!
Are you willing to show how to make a full side Murphy Bed????
Do you have plans anywhere that I could download and use for a build?
Nice video.May I know the thickness and the width of the wood where slats are standing on , the side rails? Thank you.
Hey, I hit a bunch of rough spots but finally getting to move into an apartment with my friend. I want to know how much weight in total does this build hold?
I'm not looking to have the desk and what not, I just want to save space in my room that's 11' 3" x 11' 6".
Do you recommend certain changes to the design for two adults on the queen bed?
Great build great video the only problem I have is it the windows are not accessible which could be an issue with fire codes. If that's her only way out other than a stairwell or the front door...or that is the only way the fire department can get to her in an emergency, then alternate plans, or modifications need to be made.
Very true, thank you
How many you bought piece of woods for building loft bed?
I would totally be happy to pay for the plans to make this bed, if they are available can I get a link?
I was wondering if you have plans for this. I would love to build this and would feel more comfortable with a plan
Great job! My only concern is that in case of a fire the window is blocked, if the child cannot exit via the door to the hallway.
Very true. At the moment she is small enough to squeeze through but I will talk with parents about modifying.
@@SpecificLove7 Thank you.
Would you be able to share the plans?
Would this be viable for an adult with a studio? What if I were to have company in the same.bed?
Is there a materials and dimensions list? I am trying to build this exact bed for myself
I would like to know how much wood you used and what size would you used
I'm 29 years young, and want this bed!
Very nice, but I think a full size bed would've gave a little more access to the window but I understand fitting what was already available.
I would love to make this. I just worry about weight. I wonder if this design could hold 500+ pounds or if different wood would be needed or a completly different design.
How much did it cost to build
What software or app did you use??? thats pretty neat how you see the plan and end result
It's called SketchUp.
cam you roll off the bed.ive bean beging my mom for a loft bed.so cole.can a kid make a loft bed?
But how do you get the mattress down.
I would love to build this for my daughter. Could you share the materials and measurements for this loft bed?
The only list I currently have is in the video itself.
How much did the project cost you?
@@kawaipanda1441 probably around 800 bucks
does anyone know how high his ceiling is?
cool! You did not fix it to the walls, right? is it stable...or it swings a bit?
It is solid, but if she was to try and jump on it, it might move a little.
Do you have a material list. How many 2x6 2x4 1x4
What was the price of the project
is there anyway that I can get the plans?
Great job. Maybe just take the celling fan off
How much did it cost to buy materials, I’d like to build a queen loft in my room but I’d like to add steps
Would u share the sketchup drawing?
Nice video but how she get in the closet door to open?whew?!🤔😥😎
There is just enough room for the door to open fully. 👍
I wish I bought a full Loft Bed, it’s a dream bed of mine, I’ve always wanted it I currently have a full size bed with a headboard that lights change colors 24/7 but I feel I need a change
Incredible bed. Do you have a website or somewhere I can get the dimensions? I have a small bedroom and this bed would be perfect to build. What's an estimated cost for this loft bed?
Sorry, I don't have any plans.
Imagine sitting up in bed and getting whacked in the face by your fan
What's that jig @ 2:07, please?
🥰
What screw length is used here
Tu nena que linda
😃😍😇👶
What is the size of the bottom space?
how much did you spend total building this bed?
I love this!!! Can you come make one for my son? I’ll pay!
HOw come none of these DIY videos list the wood/materils needed?
Kid Tested... Cat Approved 🤣🤣🤣
LOL
I’d have 2 safety concerns - blocking the window in case of an emergency and being that close to the ceiling fan.
Fully understandable. Fortunately they plan on replacing the fan. And for the window, she is small enough to squeeze through.
@@SpecificLove7 A fireman is not.
@@teresasquires6356 I've seen firemen squeeze into smaller spaces than that.
I already got an idea. Build them bed. get a blanket and nail it on the bed put a tv under the bed with a chair and make a mini theater
Am here about making a Calfornia king loft. lol
Wow, that might need a few more braces. Have fun.
what software do you use to design these projects
SketchUp
@@SpecificLove7 thank you
What’s the approximate total weight capacity of this build?
I don't know
I’d like to build this exact bunk may I ask all the dimensions of the wood cutt.
Sorry I don't have plans
@@SpecificLove7 no worries , still an excellent bed frame. ! I enjoyed the watch thank you .
I like the design but I think I’ll build this as a twin bed instead of a queen.
Thank you. And a twin should be easier and cheaper ☺️
Why didn't you stain the side rails.
@2:07. Is that a Kreg Jig???
First of all, WHAT CHILD HAS A QUEEN!
lol right? If we had a queen bed at that age, everyone assigned to that room would've had to share it.
VinSkaro I’m 15 and my parents say that I’m not getting a bigger bed until I move out and buy one myself
@@rachellor lol the type that can only afford a small space and needs to utilize the space more practically. Haha but in all seriousness twin beds are sufficient enough I think.
@@tylerl4768 Makes sense ^_^
I had one of my own so did my brother but now we moved we needed and bunk bed now I only have a full sized bed when my both only has a twin
I’m concerned with that fan near the bunk bed
Fyi ... blocking the window it's a safety issue. Most people don't think about it but you need that full window accessible for egress and for fireman.
I like the loft bed but why do need a queen bed for such a big room if you have a twin or a full it would be much easier
How tall is this
So was that really a queen mattress with slats spanning 60 inches with no central support? I thought that a central support would be required, No?
if brought this to market I would price it @ 800$.
My Fiancée and I have recently moved in with her parents to save up money to buy their house in a few years time when they're ready to move. We only have one room to store the majority of our stuff. We've got a queen size bed with a traditional frame, a three seat couch and two dressers, no closet. As somebody who enjoys my video games occasionally for some downtime as I'm not interested in TV much at all, I am trying to figure out how to gain more space to set up a desk. I got to thinking today about a loft bed, and after a quick search online discovered I don't want to pay $2000 for a flimsy looking steel one. DIY it may be
I don't have side rails on my loft bed and it's very high he he
5:08
She doesn’t use the fan right??
Nice build BUT the placement of the bed is extremely dangerous in case of a fire the child has no way of exiting the room if unable to exit though the door
