  • Lebanon's capital city Beirut is reeling today after an explosion estimated to be one fifth the size of the nuclear blast which devastated Hiroshima, ripped through the city’s port.
    At least 100 people are thought to be dead, with more than 4,000 injured, while it has been reported by local media that up to 250,000 people have been made homeless and the blast may have caused 5 billion pounds of damage to the city.
    This is what we know so far.

      Actually they do. Search youtube and news. They did cover how firefighters were sent there and been told it was just fireworks inside. The funeral of woman who was with firefighters(i am not sure if she was firefighter or medic) was already held and that got to the news too. She was only one who they found...Others are probably in pieces.
      ...
      I don't know about police. But maybe I just didn't look properly or those news haven't yet been picked up by english speaking media.

      This happened in Texas City once too. The amounts of nitrate were comparable, except it was being loaded onto a ship there. They were trying to put out the fires onboard when it happened. Purportedly, the ship's hull and deck were bulging visibly for some time before it went off, and spectators reported that the water was actually boiling around the ship's hull. The explosion started a fire on a nearby ship which was ALSO carrying Ammonium Nitrate (though at least less of it), which resulted in that ship also burning and then exploding the next day.

      The issue is, and I'm trying to say this as sensitively as possible, there won't be much left of the victims who were caught in the blast. It could take a long time to determine the numbers. They can only update as they get confirmations and when there's no body search for because it has been vaporized then that makes it harder. I hope it isn't in the thousands and that somehow there wasn't that many fatalities but it will be a while before we know for sure

      Indeed, it was 2.4 kilotons of ammonium nitrate (which had lower yield than pure TNT, so it was probably the equivalent to half that, say, 1 kiloton of TNT). Hiroshima-Nagasaki were in 15-20 kiloton range. So, 20 of these would make the smallest nuclear blast.

    • @Snagabott
      @Snagabott 4 роки тому +3

      There were tactical nukes made with lower yield than this blast. This "bomb" would actually be probably the most common yield range on a fully nuclear battlefield. On the other end of the scale, ofc, the highest-yield LiD monsters of the 1950's and 60's were up to 25000 times more powerful. (The Tsar was 50Mt, but it wasn't intended to be a weapon. I just read, our German Technisches Hilfswerk (Specialists helping worldwide, when catastrophys happen) give up to search survivors. They travelled the day after to Libanon and worked hard. Many areas are not reachable to find survivors without too less heavy machines, where it was possible to search, only dead body's where found. The Shockwave was too heavy and they have never seen any similar before. What was a life safer, the silo next to the explosion absorbed a part of the energy, how big the effect was is hard to calculate.Sadly the food is destroyed, too. Right now the THW is checking the safety of buildings,
    Many of them are expected not to be repairable anymore and collapsing events might be possible. It's unbelievable what happened there and I am sad, although I am far away and don't know people from there. Sorry, I am not used to write English anymore, hope it's understandable.

    We literally just watch the moment hundreds of lives were stolen away at once.
    In the beginning of the video they were all alive, living on their regular day. Some just working their daily hours, others heading home to/with their loved ones, or heading out to visit them, and even some just enjoying time at home or like the now viral video of the bride taking pictures in her beautiful gown others could have been doing the same or even be preparing for it.. The now departed had lives to live, a future to achieve and so much more..
    It's terrifying to know how fast our lives can be ripped away or changed in the matter of a few mere moments and the silence that follows is louder than anything in the entire world..
    There is no meaning to life, other than to just simply enjoy it and the people you love while you have them.

    so this video possibly explains a lot. We hear the alarms going off, and the firefighters heading to the scene. minutes later we see the plume of smoke start turning white , a sign that the firemen were readily shooting water onto the scene. But then minute afterward, the sound of the fire works suddenly grow much louder and unlike previously begin to see not the plume of smoke vastly increase but also fireworks exploding above the sight, suggesting that the roof of the building had collapsed feeding a mixture of air water and extreme temperature creating more hot oxygen. keeping in mind the ammonium nitrate is supposedly not simply in the cargo ship but also stored in the adjacent factory. then it all goes up.
