It's extraordinary when you see live performances that are better than studio versions. I wish he'd make a whole album with nothing but him, a guitar, and a microphone. His regular stuff's awesome, but this is just pure.
why I love tiny desk. I find this guys amazing recent albs, then realise npr were all over him in 2011. I still finding gems, tiny desk the gift that keeps on giving
his face is so interesting. i love listening to his music, but seeing him makes it somehow even better. its like i can see the music on his face, not notes and melodies and lyrics, but the emotion and heart, the center of his music. and hes got the sweetest most gentle smile.
These are the best versions of his songs that I have heard. Seems like the vibe at NPR is so good, every band that plays there gives the best performance they ever had. Awesome musician.
the last two verses are glorious. "This old dark machine, shakes then it shudders Pulls to the left, dies near the gutter But still in the road, and traffic it's silent The people they stare, then they turn violent If they should touch, the hem of your dress I would rise like a lion, strike out again faithful they wait, faithful they wait for a sign Near the town where we were living Came a loud and joyous sound As the earth and all her beauty Picked us up from off the ground Carried far across the mountains To a kingdom never bound We will live like this forever I will love you I will love you"
Thanks UA-cam for bringing me to all of these great NPR Tiny Desk Concerts! The AutoPlay feature is taking me on an audio adventure, where will it end, who knows?
an angel singing I am a big fan James , david Gray , Dallas Green( city and colour ) , Ben Howard , Ray Lamontagne , Tallest man on earth thats the real music
I keep coming back to this performance. It's stunning. The first couple times I heard it, the background noises felt distracting. After repeat listens, though, they carry in some sort of ominous mood that ends up defining the songs for me. Every time I see him ask if he can play one more I get so nervous. If he didn't play Red Dust in the way that he did here, I would be a different person. Things emerge from the pool of chance that would never come if they were planned.
This is not my first encounter with James... I have known about and been in love with his music for a good while and this is by far one of the best performances I've seen by him or honestly anyone else. Thank you NPR Music for posting this and countless other amazing Tiny Desk Concerts.
...thanks NPR - love your TinyDesks. James Vincent McMorrow is a great inspiration to hear. His debut recording was stellar, and hearing just him with his acoustic reveals the great depth in his artistry. Great document. I hope James Vincent is still hard at it. Must look him up.
You uploaded this on my birthday - and what a present! This guy's so good I can't believe he's not better known. And yes Djangoclouds, he is just like Willem Dafoe AKA Sergeant Elias.
I found J V McMorrow by listening to Daniel Caesar...they both have beautiful Angelic-like voices...now I have another new found Artist...I enjoyed this Tiny Desk Concert.
A man with terminal cancer who goes on a roadtrip with his friends. It's awfully sad but the song fits perfectly. Don't watch it if you don't want to become an emotional wreck for two days haha *chokes back tears*
Thank God I can't sing or play guitar ... since this would make me quit immediately. Not to mention the song writing is top notch. Mr. McMorrow must sing himself to sleep since nothing could compare.
I saw this guy in Toronto when he opened along with Kurt Vile for J Mascis. The other two were great but James Vincent McMarrow definitely owned the show in my opinion.
He needs a 2021 Tiny Desk. He has grown tremendously as an artist and has dropped some incredible music since.
I agree 2022%
2024 here, still true 🌟
My son.
Please invite him back. He evolved so much as an artist.

I love it when he opens his eyes and goes back in time to the moment he's singing about
love this guy's music .. a true performer and a humble artist.
One of my favourite tiny desk performances, so so beautiful
These are the best versions of his songs that I have heard. Seems like the vibe at NPR is so good, every band that plays there gives the best performance they ever had. Awesome musician.
Red dust blows me away everytime
still. every time.
the last two verses are glorious.

But still in the road, and traffic it's silent
The people they stare, then they turn violent
If they should touch, the hem of your dress
I would rise like a lion, strike out again
faithful they wait, faithful they wait
for a sign
Near the town where we were living
Came a loud and joyous sound
As the earth and all her beauty
Picked us up from off the ground
Carried far across the mountains
To a kingdom never bound
We will live like this forever
I will love you
I will love you"
He's soo humble! And I love it when he says "another one?". It's also as if he wakes up from a different state once he stops singing..
would never shut up if i had his voice.
Pk Kunarangsi me too me too
i wanna see him live with all my heart
Listening to Red Dust gives me the chills. So good.

As a planner... I can learn something from your last line. I love it.
Just purchased his album on Itunes. Never looking back it was a great decision! ♥♥
Great performance!

Literally one of my FAVORITE tiny desk performances. Beautiful voice. In search for more James!
I absolutely adore this performance!
so beautiful, James Vincent McMorrow, Ben Howard, Other Lives, Bon Iver and Michael Kiwanuka are my new favorite artists
I love "Sparrow and the wolf". Such a warm song.
James V Mc M goes all crazy eyes a few times during this. Great session all the same. That was a great album and the second one is great too
What subtle beauty in his voice!
such a good singer song writer
Saw him live after his last album and before that, really great to see his music develop.
His voice is unbelievable and unique!
artistry in its simplest form
When I saw this in my feed I dropped everything and loved every moment of this.
This is another NPR performance I like much better than the original. He really shows his true talent here!! Very Awesome, Great Performance!!
his eyes tell a whole story
This guy felt true love
His voice is absolutely captivating
Love this acoustic version of Sparrow and Wolf.... can't wait to see him in Melbourne next week
So great.
First 2 songs amazing but last 2 songs I’m so impressed by the writing
The sirens that play on the background of "red dust" just enhances the feel of the song, it's amazing
Great performance. I like this live acoustic version better than the regular album version. NPR Tiny Desk Concert never disappoints !!
Feliz é aquele que conhece o belo dom do James Vincent. Hey, James.. please come to Brazil! ♥
One of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard ^_^
and THATS how you finish out a 15 minute set.. I love this guy
I can't watch him perform...but can listen to him all day long! ♥
The second song is so epic, goosebumps all over
We need another tiny desk with him 😍

He is brilliant.
This album is beyond beautiful.

YES!!!!! I love me some James Vincent McMorrow, so when I saw this in my subscription box I was pumped.
You uploaded this on my birthday - and what a present! This guy's so good I can't believe he's not better known. And yes Djangoclouds, he is just like Willem Dafoe AKA Sergeant Elias.
YES! I am so happy music like this is being created.

You have obviously come back to document it.
red dust... i cry... MAGICAL
The harmonies in Old dark machine are just brilliant, but he does the song justice doing it solo.
Priceless
I found J V McMorrow by listening to Daniel Caesar...they both have beautiful Angelic-like voices...now I have another new found Artist...I enjoyed this Tiny Desk Concert.
This video needs a replay button after each song!

Saddest movie ever.
Great song. Great movie. I want to cry just thinking about it.
what's that movie about?
A man with terminal cancer who goes on a roadtrip with his friends. It's awfully sad but the song fits perfectly. Don't watch it if you don't want to become an emotional wreck for two days haha *chokes back tears*
haha that sounds like a good movie, maybe i'll watch it some time
He can serenade me forever
He waited till the end to show off his range. Wow!
Thank God I can't sing or play guitar ... since this would make me quit immediately. Not to mention the song writing is top notch. Mr. McMorrow must sing himself to sleep since nothing could compare.
+Jon Coleman He is really good.. but i'm afraid you're missing the point of music mate.
great musician
I saw this guy in Toronto when he opened along with Kurt Vile for J Mascis. The other two were great but James Vincent McMarrow definitely owned the show in my opinion.
