My suggestion would be to add larger tires to all 4 corners, then change the rear portal gears on the portals to allow for more torque and to keep similar ratios.
@@MyKonaRCwell no, portals were designed to solve that exact problem. But axles with portals are expensive and if you’re running portals you’re probably doing some serious shit so you’re not gonna want some cheap side by side level shit. Cop some rockwells and hit the rocks!
@@michaelcoulton883i dont know how it is in rest of the world but in slovakia, even an Audi Allroad with airsuspension is not a guilt. In a technical documentation of the car where is VIN, date of manufacture type of the vehicle etc. etc. Is also stated your tire measurements which tire you are allowed to mount on the vehicle. You can rise a ground clearance by 2-3cm which allows you to use larger tire e.g 19 or 20inch 255/35/R20 but in that documentation is only R16 195/65/ R16 or 265/35/R18 for summer usage. And now what... that was only an example, every vehicle has its own documentation with exact tires you are allowed to use, BECAUSE when you compare xxx/ 65 / R16 and xxx / 35 / R18 they have almost the same crossection lenght so the speed of your vehicle on the dashboard matching almost the same. When you equip your car with R20 tires and you use xxx/ 30 / R20 this tire is by few centimeters larger thus, when you have 50kmh on the dashboard in reallity you go 3-5kmh faster and that is against law in slovakia.

If you plan on going crazy with it add tensions to the rear chain setups. Set it up like a timing chain and add cv axles and long chains to the front wheels. The rear axle is driving all 4 wheels
Change the sprockets for more torque/bigger wheels. then box weld the drop brackets and fill halfway with oil so the chains/sprockets hold upp in the long run👌
No offense, but you really should be impressed with their ingenuity and resourcefulness more. From an engineering standpoint, most of what they design would flunk you out of drafting class for the various flaws they don't address. I get it for a quick youtube video, but please don't think of this as "top tier engineering."
Wow fu$kgoogle52… you do realize, that this is a group of young guys in a back alley garage, in Russia no doubt… I admit some of their stuff has been pretty lame as of late… but I’m pretty impressed with this build.
@@shanepowers7566This is my second one as well. My 1st was an '84. This one was my daily driver until the trans died. Trying to save up to have it rebuilt or replaced.
You guys are great, I love how creative you are in the way you test things. I'd really like you guys to revisit the rubber piston rings, possibly daily drive for a week and see how they hold up to thermocycling and prolonged driving conditions. I was impressed with how well they held up in your tests.
I'm surprised he didn't do a burnout. That was such a simple elegant modification though, one of the best I think. Just knew they were going witht he chain drive!
Yall should try putting the wheels from the swimming lada on this. The cabin is not gona get soaked this time and there will be no water splashing in the intake and other stuff.
Put some 24V 4kW starter motors on top of the front pillars with the solenoid engagment driving chains to the front wheels. Then you can have off road front wheel drive hybrid capability. Probably best geared for say 10-15kmph top speed, they will supply all the torque you could ask for in off road situations where you need the 4wd. Our series one land-rover would start in low range first or second gear no problems from standstill on a steep hill. It was a 1600cc about weight as your lada. You might not even need 24V 4kW motors, 12V 1.5 to 2kW might be perfectly adequate.
Weld the two halves of the front ends of two ladas together (back to back) and run both engines and transmissions to make a 4 wheel steer and 4 wheel drive raised car.diffs with welded CV joints for the steering
Well they already spin 360°. You mean 'turn' 360°. Seriously, that'd be interesting to see the guys figure that one out and the result would be unique. Now I've got omni-directional drive stuck in my head.
Some manufacturers have done AWS, but in most cases the rear wheel barely moves. 360° would probably be a mit overkill, but it's likely possible on a budget with basic hardware, anything past 70-80° is beyond what modified suspension that still retains suspension stuff can do. And finding a diner car with independent rear suspension, because you can't really have a driven live axle turn, and that can easily be ripped down and everything modified would be Next to impossible. As for 360°, turning, you might be able to do it on non driven wheels, but even then it would be extremely difficult.
Those 4 bolts that attach each front lift post to front strut won’t be able to handle hard braking loads with all that extra moment arm. Any large torque around the original hub will cause the bolted connection to fail by shearing the bolts. Be careful…
My suggestion would be to add larger tires to all 4 corners, then change the rear portal gears on the portals to allow for more torque and to keep similar ratios.
i agree :)
I'd also recommend they find some way to box weld those drop brackets closed. We won't see anything, but they could realllllllly lay into it then.
monster truck lada?
33x12.5 15
Look how the Mercedes Unimogs Axels (specially the older ones like Unimog 404 and Unimog 406, the simplicity) are made and there you go.
that is the most badass lada, definitely needs some big tires.
Would love to see this revisited with 4WD and bigger wheels
everyone asking for bigger tires but you don't need bigger tires. That is the beauty of this.
Now thats a real lift! All other vehicle lifts only raise the body and not the axles. Thus still having the same ground clearance.
raise the body so the larger tires fit in the wheel wells, the larger tires raise the ground clearance
@@michaelcoulton883 not nearly as much as this car in the video.

the lada need big wheels now
Yes 😀
37 inch mudders lol
Or a donk lada
Big wheels and gear reduction in the portal! And tyre chains!
Yeah like why didn't they put some all terrains on it lol.. That would've been awesome
My suggestion is same solution on Lada Niva...
This would solve 4x4 problem and create a real off road monster ;)

Normally portals are meant to fit inside the wheels. Making them this way puts huge strain on the factory components.
Nice, giving me ideas for a good winter conversion for my car to beat the unplowed roads!
Make a LADA NIVA 4x4 with a high geared lift kit for rock crawling and (4 tractor front wheels) some big wheels.
Love your videos. 👍
Missed the chance to make a 2:1 gear reduction from the go :) awesome build though, you guys come up with the coolest ideas!

So what I'm hearing is the all wheel drive lifted rally offroad Lada is next? Excellent!
this is %107 . Nice Work!! might want to keep this one around as a utility vehicle.
snow chains will make it unstoppable
Good Idea. Need to make a monster Lada similar to a monster truck. 😊🎉🎉 keep it up 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤ you guys are awesome 👌 👏
Has there ever been a DONK Lada? This car is so close! I know these guys could build a set of 30 inch rims for this thing.
I think they have a set form years back somewhere lol with some spinner things
I could see them cutting out the wheels wells a ridiculous amount and swapping in 30" wheels with about 1/4" tires.
@@jblob5764I agree! I remember seeing that video!😂👍 pimp my Lada!
_"Has there ever been a DONK Lada?"_ I think they would have a hard time shoehorning in a 2JZ motor.
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssss
and now:
-four bigger wheels
-struts reinforcement
-dirt protecion and so, for the chains
and this could be the unstoppable Lada!
You and the guys who work for you are quite clever. You all blow me away with what you come up with.
These guys can build anything. Great example of home brewed engineering

Forest and a tractor trail. Bigger tires also could help, and chains to back? Cool stuff.
Huge smile on my face watching this!
It'slike them dock crane things that lift containers, but even more ridiculous looking... :P
Now that's what I call a lada
Gave me an idea about building my own portals for an ATV. Lol
Add another set of wheels on the inside of the lifts
Idea for next project: 4x4 Lada with this lift and bigger wheels. Literally what you said what should be done to make this car offroader.
Time to lift up a 4x4 UAZ the same way and put on large tires.
Put tracks on the rear, sleds in front and drive in deep snow.
Lada Niva has 4wheel drive Hi, Lo and locking diffs. that with some good tires shuld do anything with that lift lit. eaven tip over ;)
Put a big offroad Wheel set 💪 then go e erywhere.. brilliant you guys are the Real entertainment.
I have a cool idea. Put niva drive train on regular zhiguli and make a proper offroader.
They can put two front MTZ 82 axels on Lada. 😁
Imagine the snow drifts you could drive through with this
Solid!

Make it be liftable hydraulically and you've got a Citroën!

One of coolest things I’ve seen on here
These guys have single-handedly opened up the portal axle market for offroaders
Larger winter tires. AWD, with maybe front and rear diffs welded
Thank you from Spain we love you guys
Do larger mud terrain tires and take it off-roading next
That was freaking hilarious! 👋😂👌👍you guy’s should try putting larger off road tires and go off roading! To see how it would do off the beaten path! 🤣👍
Nice, just think how easy it would be to change the gear ratio for more torque as well!
They already done that 😉
Not really much operation... This beam wont take much larger sprocket :)
I really hope the next step will be bigger tires.... and of course changing the top sprocket to a much smaller one to increase wheel torque
Just when you think they’ve ran out of ideas 😂
How about bringing that set of wheels on farmland and giving it an hydrolics upgrade too for a 4 rows mower or seed attachment...
That was surprisingly stable!
Of course rear drum brakes don't work, sensible mechanics 👌.
Weld the two halves of the front ends of two ladas together (back to back) and run both engines and transmissions to make a 4 wheel steer and 4 wheel drive raised car.diffs with welded CV joints for the steering
a ladapillar?!
Make it even higher and/or add larger tires!!
with bigger wheels it would be even more interesting😊
This definitely needs a second video with more grippy tires. It doesn't even need to be big. Do
Now make this one AWD and put some BIG tires on it 🤩
With 4 wheel drive and tractor tires this car will be unstoppable
This one looks like it was a lot of fun!
Now make it go up and down on demand so cool!!!!
love the welder shopping cart 😹
an old logging road should fun to test on an great video it was fun to watch
Great Build!
Now you should add big wheels with individual free moveable foots / feet.
Like some guns in WW1/WW2.
Something changed or the host is just photogenic you look good.
Ok now put giant tractor tires on it
You should make a Lada with wing doors that open up like a DeLorean

There is a glitch on the road texture at 9:41 I hope Garage 54 will patch it.
Love this the only thing that could make it better is AWD and big wheels and tires. I am trying to justify a lifted Lada in my life now 🤔
Give it a 2:1 ratio and add huge tires.
you should stabilize at the front end. put on some reactionarms front and back.
I love it awesome idea simple fabrication but it works great really great job guys!!!
They still get surprised by every one of their diffs being welded 😅
these videos are amazing, random mechanical tinkering
Put on bigger wheel that would look cool bro
Closest thing to a lada on hydraulics 😭
That's a Lada ground clearance! There, I said it.
Chain drive is a very efficient means of transmission to the wheels, easy to change ratio and would last a long time... with a normal differential 😅
Those 4 bolts that attach each front lift post to front strut won’t be able to handle hard braking loads with all that extra moment arm. Any large torque around the original hub will cause the bolted connection to fail by shearing the bolts. Be careful…

4x4 with a gear driven portal next!?
4x4 old niva would do the job well
