1.) avoid:
SULPHATE any kind
- removes natural oils
Silicons
- a plastic cast that frizz and prevents moisture
- not water soluble
- anything with ends with ‘CONE’
Alcohol
- drying on the hair
2.)research about the product and look at the ingredients
3.) dont use heat in hair
4.) dont use basic bath towel
Thank you!!
Thanks
is sodium lauroyl lactylate a sulphate please? Sorry I'm still learning.
@@jadejade2377 yes she has mentioned in her video
my hair used to look just like yours, now it’s so frizzy and my curls aren’t defined so this was very helpful! thank you!
Same
Your CGM videos are the best I’ve seen. Realistic steps, realistic time spent, realistic product recommendations. I’ve been at this for far more than a decade, basically seeing the birth of CGM. There is a lot of ridiculousness out there, you are the real deal! Thank you and keep up the great work!!
For some reason my hair is wavy near my scalp in the sections in the back of my head and then is really wavy, gets straight, and then random curls here and there lol. My hair has a mind of its own
đýľåñ dilly finally someone that I can relate to😭
That’s exactly how my hair is and I have no idea how to take care of it
It might just need some time from what I've seen! I've got kind of the same issue, but your hair sounds like it needs time to train itself into being evenly curly wavy through scrunching etc!
I swear I hav hair like u, like all types
Oh lort!! Same here. I have random spiral curls all underneath i mean like the perfect die for curl and the rest is just blah.
Finally someone explained it both logically and in a way that's easy to remember. Thank you!!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching 💕
Thank you- i am just getting started on CGM.
How do you have so few comments and likes....? After so many views? I love this video it's very helpful
You are so knowledgeable I really needed you videos I always blow dry my hair straight but now it has gotten a lot curlier so I really need to learn how to my own hair. Thank you for the videos
So what shampoo and conditioner do you use?
Hi Gena Marie,
Quick question that I hope you will answer as soon as you can please,
My hair is naturally frizzy and curly and I always brush out the curls making it more frizzy. Therefore my whole life I have been straightening it.
However now I really want to wear it curly like it is naturally....... what hair products would you recommend me to buy? What hair products would help the curls to stick together?
Thanks:)
Really good information. Thank you for sharing this.
Im a guy and my hair used to be super curly and bouncy 2 years ago. Now it’s all frizzy and simply put a mess. I found out I’ve been using a conditioner containing silicones all this time. I really hope it isn’t too late to revive my natural curls that I once had.
Are you Brad mondo tho
much details, thanks
you deserve likes and attention.
keep up the focking good work.

New subscriber... I needed a hair change and it seems like there should be a hair doctor for curly hair because there is SO much to know and avoid. Thank you for the info!
What if I can’t use shampoo without sulfates because is the only shampoo that works against my seborrheic dermatitis? Can I still do the other steps and get a good result?
thank you for the video! my curls naturally roll in toward my face. would I still want to roll the brush away from my face, or put the brush on the opposite side and roll with the natural curl?
I would always go in the direction of your natural curl because then you’ll get the best ringlet. You can really force curls to spiral in a different direction unfortunately
Can we use a hair diffuser even if it’s heat damage
Thank you so much
What is the alternative for using a regular bath towel? I have been using the method of using an old t-shirt to wrap my hair in after a shower for a while now but idk if that's the best as far as protecting curls
I use a t shirt to scrunch out some of the water before applying my products.
but won't my hair get greasier if i stop using sulphates? i wash my hair every 5 days and by day 4 its usually pretty oily at the root. i don't want to have to wash it more often though cause that'll dry my ends out more? also head and shoulders is the only thing ive found that prevents dandruff and itchy scalp
I love ur videos...I seldom comment but I needed to tell u how much I enjoy ur content 👏👏 u give awesome advice & explain things very well, so tysm❤❤❤
Aw thanks so much!!
@@GenaMarie OMGOSH 😱 I can't believe you replied 😭...tysm I adore u...ur so great❤❤❤❤
Very informative. Thank you
Thank you! 💗
I’m so stupid I used to wash my hair with body wash when I ran out of shampoo
HowDoIhair oh dear
I still do that lol
@@niccolomachiavell omg that sounds horrible lol
Thank you 😍😍😍
I haven't used heat on my hair for a year now I have curly hair but it's dry and sometimes frizzy and when I brush my hair my curls are gone so I wanna keep my hair tamed and curly
SAME!!! My hair is mostly wavy with some curls but once i brush it it’s basically gone besides some weird waves!!!!
Awh, i just got the Acure Ultra Hydrating Shampoo and saw that it had sodium laroyl methyl isethionate :(
I haven't been using sulfates for years but have silicon in all my products and am currently working to fix that and get silicon-free products. But what do i do about the buildup now? How do i get rid of the buildup if I dont have any sulfates?
I did a video here all about how to clarify: ua-cam.com/video/4c7cXdN7aFs/v-deo.html
Gena M thank you!
Try lye based soaps you want a lot of lather while washing because they are sulfate free and the original way of washing your hair. My favorite lye based soaps are goat milk soaps and Aleppo, (olive oil based,) soaps.
A by-product of lye-based soap is vegetable glycerin which is good for the hair.
@@EHCBunny4real, soaps are alkaline though, so an ACV rinse might be in order. I prefer to wash with pH balanced regular (drugstore) shampoos. I don't avoid sulfates or silicones. I just wash my hair like I always have, I just double condition (or double mask) and I have no issues. I have wavy/curly hair, but I have an oily scalp, so it is necessary to give it a good cleanse. I also have SD, seborrheic dermatitis and you don't want to mess with that. Sulfates help me *hugely* - it's not all bad. Some people can't go CG fully.
So true, and something I should have mentioned in the video. Thank you!
@@amixeblu I use the shea moisture shampoo and conditioner with hibiscus and coconut oil. It's meant for thick curly hair but I use it and I have thin hair it works really good to clean my scalp and get rid of any leftover product, not that I really use any. After my shower I either put in olive oil or grapeseed oil on the ends, or basically whatever oil is in front of me. Or I wait until its dry to put it on.
@@amixebluWrong. The base is alkaline and once it's mixed with oils which are a fatty acid it becomes a neutral based salt which is healthy for your hair.
I have half natural curly hair and half rebounded straightened hair right now..can I start with the CGM or do I have to wait till I grow natural hair fully?
You can do the CGM anytime! It will help get your healthier as its growing out.
@@GenaMarie thanks for the reply n thanks for the help...means a lot..
What alcohols should I avoid as this is the ingredient that seems to be in everything
Isopropyl alcohol should be avoided. It dries out the hair. There are some good alcohols that are good like cetyl alcohol
Oh my. The bottle of my not your mothers curl defining shampoo says sulfate free, but there is sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate and sodium cocoyl isethionate
That's fine, just try to avoid them if transitioning she said. I use it and I love it. It's a wonderful shampoo.
those are fine - they are mild cleansers and not SLS's
What do I do
I have a question about the sulfates. Sulfates help with cleaning your hair, it does remove the natural oils in your hair and scalp however your conditioner is supposed to replenish and restore that so it cancels out no?
sulfates are quite a harsh detergent and overstimulate oil production. You only want to remove excess oils not strip your hair of all natural oils. Shampoos with non-sulfated cleansers are kinder to your hair. Conditioners do a different job to cleansers. Conditioning and moisturising are two different things. To moisturize is to restore both water and oil to your hair to keep it healthy and stop breakage. Conditioning is to deposit product on the cuticle to help fill the gaps and smooth down the cuticle to give your hair some protection and give it the soft feel that people associated with hair being moisturized.
@@SueRosalie hey thanks for replying! One more question: i finally found an affordable sulfate free shampoo but the matching xonditioner has the sulfate thats typically found in shampoos. Why is that? Is it okay to use?
Shea Moisture is a really good brand!
it is but be aware that shea butter builds up so you have to clarify
Linda
My hair is greasy at the top and dry and the bottom
my hair is kinda weird so it’s frizzy and puffy and I kinda hate that because I look so weird in camera sometimes and it’s wavy at the top but midway it’s straight like what the actual heck
I recently posted a video about uneven curl patters here: ua-cam.com/video/jBDXxUXbm6I/v-deo.html
Also, puffy hair can be from being over moisturized. Do you incorporate protein ingredients in your routine?
I'm going to try this, and I will update within 24 hours of anyone replying to this comment. I have super thin and straight hair.
Did it work?
@@someonesomewhere9986 Nope.
Can anyone tell me what a cast is? 😫 Everyone says you have to build it but I have no idea what that even means
A cast is the "crunch" you get from products with hold such as gel and mousse! Getting a cast on your curls is a good thing because it will hold their shape and prevent frizz! Most people like to scrunch out the crunch/cast once its 100% dry to soften their hair for a fuller, more natural look. Without hold, curls can fall flat and be fluffy and frizzy.
it's the crunchy coating that gel makes on the outside of your hair. Like old fashioned setting lotion and rollers, it holds the shape of your hair in a curl. It changes the bonds in the hair. Once dry the hair will stay that way until next time it is soaked. Crunching out the cast just breaks up the crystals of gel and disperses them to reveal the soft hair underneath.
everyone in the comments: finally, a video i can understand. you make it so simple!
me, a very stupid man, still thoroughly confused: 😳
gah all the conditioners in the house have alcohol! (i didn't check after that)
If it's Cetyl Alcohol don't worry! That's a fatty alcohol that isn't so bad for you.
The front of my hair looks kinda like urs but the back and sides are no where near as curly😭
This should help!
How to Make Hair Curlier - 10 Tips for Tighter, Defined Curls ua-cam.com/video/cfcoPnDmZaQ/v-deo.html
Omg same I honestly didn’t think any one else had this kinda of thing bc I couldn’t find stuff anywhere x
Naturally curly hair that is oily and it seems like everything im seeing is how to add oil
I only use oils as a pre-poo step, the night before I wash my hair. I only apply a little to my ends to help protect them when shampooing.
no. Oils are not part of cgm because they are not water soluble and you will get buildup. Oils within hair products are in soluble form and easily removed when washed.
U in Miami? Talking to the owner of this account im rich and fun asf im tryna get lit witchu lol
