      When you work beyond working hours, and if you report this to HR they will said in every company this is same situation you can't expect to just work for 9 hours.
      And this is we belive and work stupidly beyond 9 hours in fear of apprisal job safety.
      I have seen many friends did job switching beacuse of this reason.

      I personally worked with Bhavish in 2010 in Microsoft. He is currently married and has 2 dogs but no kids. So, no need for time at home.
      His wife is homemaker (taking care of dogs and travels a lot)

    I work in France, and French have a strict no work policy beyond the specified 8hrs. They work efficiently and honestly during these 8hrs, but the moment they leave the desk, they are done with the day. No one expects calls at late nights (unless it is mentioned in the work contract and they are paid for it), no weekend work, no taking work to home (unless YOU want). People can say France is not a strong economy, or its not like US. But I am glad I have a work-life balance here where I can enjoy time for myself and my loved ones. Work is important but it's not the only thing in our life.
    In India, we lack this mentality.

      Same here. If you make a French person work in such extreme conditions, you can be sure of French revolution part II. At the same time, I feel like the standards at work are high and the rhythm is pretty fast-faced to get everything done in time. In any case, a normal person cannot be 100% productive when pushed beyond their physical and intellectual limits.

      Thanks to EU relaxed policies, most jobs are coming to Asia. Innovation is dying there.
      Indian working in france will work dedicated 8 hours while the same person in India works 2 hours in 10 hours shift

      Bhavish is speaking from an entrepreneur's perspective, where a percentage of the company's growth directly impacts his personal net worth. It's unreasonable for him to expect underpaid and overworked employees, who rarely see any benefits from the company's success, to share the same level of motivation.
      But yeah, he has a history of spitting foolish statements out, so I'm not surprised.

      Its because either you dont understand what love is or you really dont love your work. Loving your work doesnt mean that you should not eat healthy, avoid gym , friends etc. If doing some kind of recreation helps me get better at my work then that thing should be considered a part of work itself and not something seperate.

    It’s unfortunate that even in America, people may hesitate to work for Indian managers or teams led by Indians. I personally experienced a challenging work environment under an Indian leader, and it became quite toxic, to the point where I hit my lowest. However, after changing company and working under an American manager, things have improved significantly for me.

      I have worked both in India and in the US under both Indian and US managers. I cannot agree more. Very few Indian managers manage to make the workplace enjoyable like US managers do. Most Indian managers make the workplace toxic. However, those who have been in the US for a while and seen the work culture there tend to be slightly better as they learn from their US counterparts on how to make the workplace an enjoyable and motivating place. Remember - if you do not enjoy yourself you cannot excel. No wonder that almost all the innovation in the world happens in the US where people choose to work on what they enjoy and enjoy their work.

      This is my problem as well. Although im a pakistani, i would never work under a desi and i hesitate when joining a company with desi coworkers. Luckily my current job has one indian guy but he is chill af.

      It’s all about optimization. More employees means more salaries ans costs to the company and more space is also required.
      There’s always an optimal value of parameters which they consider while hiring or laying off.

    Its scary but unavoidable. If you decide your boundary and learn to say no, there will always be a guy who will working overtime to take your place. Unemployment is a major reason behind this work culture.
    In india you can always find a person who can work 15- 16 hours a day on less salary salary..
    Sad but true. Unless there are more employment, this problem won't be resolved

    And then there is my Manager, the amazing guy let's all of us work at our own pace. I faced some mental health issues right after joining my company and he stopped assigning me tasks, asking me to pick things as I like. He asked for deadline and just asked us to adhere to our words. If we failed, he got us help. That is a leader.

      Yes... One of my besties doing her pg in Gynaecology saying her schedules can go from 24 hrs to 36 hrs, and whenever she is on her offs, her seniors take leave and ask her to work in their replacement.....
      I don't understand the ridiculous logic here, why won't the management recruit more doctors and Govt provide enough funds for medical faculty welfare...
      Actually Doctors are dealing with human body that has belongingness, strings and experiences emotions and pain.... One small mistake is fatal to Life... (Violence against doctors also persists nowadays)...
      If existing doctors are drained out like this, how can he/she operate efficiently and carefully on that living body....

    I Am Assistant Loco pilot in inidan Railways
    I am also going through same condition bcs of work pressure we are working 12-14 hrs daily minimum and some times 16-18 hrs daily
    We have only 30hrs rest in 10 days Rarely get it in 7 days
    Our work culture is very unscheduled
    In Running rooms we get only 8hrs
    In which minimum 2-3 hours are getting waste in eating and buying rations for a meel
    Only 3-4 hours of sleep we are getting every day...and also
    Ab Government of India ke bare m sab smjh aa chuka hai
    Kisi bhi political party ko ya fir minister ko Ham logon k life se koi lena dena nahi hai ham jiye ya mare ham logon ko Bell smjh rakha hai
    Ya to koi poori tarha se berojgar hai ya fir Kisi par itna load hai k usko sone tak nahi dia jata hai.. life hell ho chuki hai

Also while thinking of lets say study abroad we think of US, Canada etc... which are very expensive and ROI is not that great, but there are countries like Germany, Sweden, Netherlands where ROI and overall living standards and also education are much better. And yes don't believe in anyone saying anything, do your research thoroughly.

    I was in EY India, I left the organisation last month on 13th August. The manager was mentally torturing me a lot, shouting at me and threatening me for unforeseen circumstances if I don’t obey their toxic behaviour. As I started my notice period the harassment increased. I used to cry a lot. The client they have is also very inconsiderate, the client wants the work needs to be done by only one resource (employee) i.e. planning, development, documentation, testing, deployment and bug fixing. This thing really took a toll on my well being.
    Thank God I left EY India.

    The situation is even worse for CA/CMA students doing their articleship. We have to manage studies and training simultaneously. According to the institute, working hours are limited to 35 hours a week, but in reality, we work 14-16 hours a day. Furthermore, we receive a stipend of less than ₹4-5,000.
    I've experienced this myself, working from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the office and then continuing from home until 1 a.m. Leaving the job is difficult, they often refuse to provide the required certificate and sign the necessary forms.
    Some of my friends have even faced verbal abuse.

      My elder brother could have choose any high salary corporate job as he was highly talented but he choose to do a government job . He stays in our small town as he has a office branch here . He has no high ambitions may be that's why he so satisfied with his life 😀

    Work culture in India is toxic. No doubts corporate lobby push govt to loosen employment law. Unorganised sector was crushed just to set monopoly of multinational companies. These organisations are insufficient to provide and generate employment for Indian youth so they blame it on skills not meeting according to industrial demands is just a gimmick to fool people, we have ITI, Govt polytechnic and degree colleges as well their own in house training programs. The problem is Unorganised sectors were bearing load of incompetent of govt as well these conglomerates but after demonization that sector got destroyed now they started blaming it on jobseekers. Hippocracy ki bhi seema hoti hai.

    I am a mecical student from India , our college is a deemed to be university ,they literally give us so much mental stress,they ask us to make ppts for the topicz they are supposed to teach with that we've to manage posting take cases self studies of 13 subjects report 6 cases attend lectures and do presentations.....NOT only jobs ...education, or I'd say living is becoming toxic day-by-day

    I have worked in Usa based company.. they force you to complete your target any how i have worked for 11-12 hrs instead of 9hrs without getting paid for that.. Indian employees law are so weak,, the companies can exploit you like a slave.. working continuously in front of the computer for straight 11-12 hrs affected my eyesight too.. This Country is messed up 😢😢

    If you don't stand up to abuse, you're partly complicit in it. If everyone stopped working beyond what they're being paid for, companies will have no choice but to redesign their HR policies. Stand up!
    And if you're in a senior position somewhere, stop exploiting your juniors. It doesn't take long for karma to catch up. I've seen it first hand.

    LABOR LAWS IN INDIA IS VERY EXPLOITATIVE.... I M NOT SHOCKED THAT SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAS HAPPENED. I HAVE WORKED WITH ONE OF THE BIG 4'S AND THEY JUST EXPLOIT PEOPLE ON THE NAME OF HEALTHY WORKPLACE. ALL BIG 4 'S ARE PRETTY TOXIC AND EMPLOYEES COMPENSATE WITH THEIR HEALTH.
    I HAVE WORKED FOR 13 HOURS STRAIGHT TOO AND THIS LED ME TO HAVE ANXIETY ATTACKS . I HAVE LEFT THAT COMPANY AFTER 4 YEARS AND NOTHING CHANGED IN THOSE 4 YEARS EVEN AFTER SO MUCH WORK.
    THESE CORPORATES ARE BLOOD SUCKERS AND THEY DONT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING EXCEPT PROFIT MAKING.
    BIG F TO ALL THE BIG FOURS FOR EXPLOITING THEIR EMPLOYEES .

    In my opinion, the major isuue is because there are no strict laws in India. My personal experience is I worked for an organization for 4 years in a row with 15 hours on weekends. Not a single leave for the past one year. And now suddenly my company fired my whole Data Science team citing Financial issues. The company now is not even open to discussion on the Full and Final Settlement because they know even if they don't pay, the employees cannot do anything through the legal process. They have not dispatched the salaries June onwards and fired the team in August mid. They said FnF will be done within 45 days and as of today the company has not even disclosed the FnF amount. This seems really stressful and frustrating because laws are not strict.
    I did not expect such a shameless behavior in the corporate world.

      I(a first year b tech student) decided to pursue b tech because I had always wanted to become a software engineer. My parents were forcing me to just go with a BSc degree and told me prepare for any government job. I was passionate about engineering so disagreed with them to follow my passion.     Today’s doing job is one of the next impossible things because of the bad mangers because they set kind of bad culture in the company and no matter how much work you do and put your breath 16:11 and brain in it one day simply you’re replaceable with other and your manager will kick you out. If you say no to manager then simply you will manager target and now manger will start mission to kick you out from company, I actual lived this toxic environment and work with toxic and bad people and finally left the company to save my self.

    I work in L&T as Engineer. There's nothing like work life balance.
    I have to work here 12 hours a days
    Sometime 15 hr. Have to work on Sunday to without any extra payment.
    This is story of every construction company
    All company is just humiliating.
    People are lucky who works 9 to 5.

      Yes life in construction is hell for sure. Heard my dad say the same as he's also a civil engineer. He used to say there weren't any duties hours assigned to him back in the day, some 25 years ago or so. The duty hours were "unlimited" sometimes he didn't even came home & slept in the office.
      One of my friends lost her father on at his workplace, on a construction site. Her whole family is fighting a lawsuit against the said company. Hope these b@stards get a Karma for these

    This piece I want to share is not a workplace stress thing but about the culture of the workplace in India. I think a lot of the heavy work can be eased if only the culture and the junior-senior or manager-direct report rapport becomes healthier.
    All of this starts with the college “ragging” culture. The need for everyone to dominate a junior because they faced the same when they entered the institution. This projects into the future on a professional level at the workplace as well.
    I was tasked with collecting a different computer at my old workplace when I was still in India since my current system doesn’t support the new project I am supposed to work on. Upon reaching the office, I had to wait for more than 4-5 hours to receive my device, which is fine because logistics. But when I tried to convey this annoying wait time to my team lead, he responds with “so what, we all had to wait the same amount of time”. This was only one of the things among all other unnecessary dominant behavior shown by leadership at Indian corporate culture.

      Basically we have a culture of power tripping. It all starts from home where parents just dominate kids without empathy, the same happens in schools and colleges by the seniors, teachers and administration. Publicly, you have the police and even security guards doing the same. Everyone tries to abuse whatever power they have over you. And then finally...at work. It's become so normalised that it's just accepted as a part of life that no one even bothers to question it. Until as usual....someone dies.

    Never going to apply EY, also the work culture of PwC is also too much toxic and stressful, please hire 2-3 candidates and share the work, give less salary, at least all can work happily. Really appreciate TCS, Accenture, Infosys etc. service based for that

    Same is happening in banking sector. Every week there are news of 3 to 4 people dying by suicide or by heart attack etc. And it is never highlighted in media or anywhere. Unrealistic targets, no fix time for office, late sitting, mentally everyone is dying here.

    I've been diagnosed with high stress and anxiety just cost of Manager. She is the most inhumane manager and make us work like robots. I had to leave my job just cos of the management and when I tried to share this with the management I was speechless to hear that I am hired as a servent. Now I am jobless and she is taking people's life. Inhumane person I've ever met

    I still remember, just a month ago, I left my job just a month after joining, there was too much toxicity and danger, I'm just 20 now, and I was ordered to test chemicals in a lab of a company, where I wasn't being given any kind of safety equipment, thank God, I've left that job, and now, I'm glad, ❤

    The problem is poverty. People have to work to survive. There are less jobs and more people which increase competition and many people willing to work 15 hours a day just to keep a job.

      Next year he will use chat gpt or other generative ai llm's to create content and summarize content.
      India cannot give everyone a corporate job.
      Some people have to do manufacturing and not everyone can get high paying jobs.
      but problem with manufacturing it doesnt have an allure like services and conditions really bad.But it is only sector that can employ 500M strong workforce. We arent like china who forced a generation of ppl to work like that to become worlds factory.
      Many waste their life in 20s to get into govt jobs. in 30s they are left with no option to take an underpaid employed because they wasted their time in 20s'. Media also interviews ppl who succeed but seldom show ppl who failed.
      India is just overpopulated. Even by 2100 maybe 1/5 of the population might attain decent living standard but the rest will live in poverty and perish.

      Not only poverty but unemployment also.. post covid there are hardly any jobs in the market, so all the companies, corporates and lala organisations take benefit of this and thus there are simply no rules.. if you want a job, you have to work 12 - 14 hours at a very low salary and without any leaves / offs !!

    This is much deeper problem starting from how schools treat you. I was critical of the rote memorization and mistreatment by teachers to my relatives, friends etc during school.
    Nobody even acknowledged it and instead tried to gaslight me into thinking that I must be the problem since I am the only one complaining.
    Fortunately I did not get gaslighted and I kept looking for things to be better in Bachelor's, it was still just as bad and even worse in some respects. I looked for a job and I found 1 where I had to work 12 hours a day for 6 days a week operating lathe machines. I refused and went for Master's instead, it also had similar problems, so I started doubting myself and thinking maybe I am the problem. Then I applied for a PhD aboard in Europe and got it, now I know I was right all along and the problem weren't just a few toxic individuals, it was the entire school system and culture, the college system and culture and my own relatives and friends whom I trusted.
    This is not about just a few isolated individuals being toxic, its the whole damn Indian culture, there are things you cannot say, there are topics you cannot question, criticism of anything systemic is forbidden. The collective matters more than any single individual, it doesn't matter how rotten the collective might be, therefore individuals are routinely thrown under the bus.
    India has this cultural narcissism where culture/elders/religion/parents/country can be never criticized, any criticism is going to be assumed to be hostile and treated harshly.

    HBKFC bank oh my god 6 months in that bank and my first job, work pressure was insane and last I thought to leave and choose freedom, instead fake dreams that I will become rich in that bank. Remember all these people who are at top, they will treat you as robot and in last they will enjoy money from your sweat and blood and you, you have a termination letter, rejection letter or hospital bills at the end.

    I used To work For LT TS as a developer,My managed was so toxic that he used to create Fake emergency scenarios to make us work Faster, even scheduling meetings at 12Am in the night and assigned us tasks on Friday Night & sneekingly made us work over the weekend.
    I had to quit after 2 months!

    I've really seen that nowadys most of the people are sitting at the post of people manager who don't deserve to be there, they don't understand or completely ignore emotions which is never good for great work culture.     Because of work culture in private sector youth are giving exams for government job.
    Government reduced vacancies in government job to divert youth towards private sector.
    If Government would have worked on reforms needed for private sector employees, things had been much better.
    Then our youth would not have wasted their precious years in government job preparation,
    and they would have happily joined private sector and some youth would not have left this country for job.

    I worked in Larsen and Toubro Hydrocarbon Engineering
    IT department 4 years ago and head of dept was so toxic.
    He abused us. Made us work in weekends without pay, made us stay late just bcs he will return late and when we asked for leave after 3 months he scolds us.
    I thank god im out of that hell.

      Believe it or not, but at the end you will definitely have to return all money earned abroad back to India.. you would have no choice..
      And this is exactly what the govt wants, that you leave the country after being frustrated.. Sometime today or tomo, due to your family you will bring your foreign earned wealth to India.. So you would have served their purpose..
