It's not even just the songs. Listen to the mixing and production of this song. This song is 33 years old now. Listen to it on noise cancelling headphones. You can hear the bass. The drums aren't too loud. The lead singer's voice is "up front" where you can hear it. Everything sounds CLEAR and leveled. Listen to music these days. It sounds like SHIT. Nobody knows how to mix and master and synch music anymore. Bands are doing mixing and production in home studios using desktop software and their finished albums sound like muddled garbage. Hair metal bands had sound engineers cutting pieces of tape and doing constant replays on analog machines. AND IT SOUNDS BETTER 30+ YEARS LATER, EVEN AS IT'S OBSOLESCENT TECHNOLOGY.

Hair metal bands are the lab-grown generic pop music of their day. The same opinion you have of mediocre corporate music created just to make money is literally the definiton of about 70-80% of glam rock bands. Unoriginal lyrics, simple, repetitive compositions, cut-and-paste solo riffs, exchangeable members with no clear uniqueness. Don't get me wrong, I love that era of music, but let's not blow smoke up their asses.

In my opinion, there are not too many male singers that can sing high notes BEAUTIFULLY, and Michael is one of them, his high notes are just outstanding!
Honestly one of the best vocal talents from the late 80’s…so underrated and they came in at the last minute, before the 90’s took over. Up there with Bach and Tate, just swooped in a little too late. One of my favorite songs still today! 🤘🏻🫶🏻❤️
Same. I’m pretty sure at least my oldest (20) was conceived while this song played. Honorable mention to all the ones that didn’t make it while my wife was still on her birth control lol!
Rhonda Brooks They don't make music like this anymore.I taught my kids early to appreciate good music.i.e. Steelheart. I hope your granddaughter grows up to appreciate the music we loved growing up just as mine do.
One of the best hair-band voices, not to mention he plays guitar AND piano, and was nice to look at. He's still performing and can still do a decent job of hitting high notes. Very nice song.
Miljenko is one of THE most overlooked, underrated, disrespected male vocalists, regardless of genre, period. And this is coming from a hardcore Geoff Tate fan since the 80s. Man never got the respect he deserved for the range he has, and fearlessness in using it so often. Mad props.
Year 2016! Everyday I am listening without exception. I am 24, born in 1992, but feeling like living in 80's thanks to you. From my childhood to now.. Listening to steealheart, and so many 80's groups is giving me strength. Thanks for feeling these emotions to me! Wherever you are.. Greetings from Turkey!
Can't quit watching these videos. Needs to be in the super bowl and more importantly the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. While waiting. Jacksonville Florida
What a great song. Back in the late 80s, I couldn't get enough of his voice and this song. I'm 60 now, and still, every time I hear it, I go right back to that time.
Backing tracks were very much in use, auto tune was invented the same year this song was written, whilst Steelheart did use backing tracks live this was recorded and produced without auto tune.
I've been saying for a long time that this guy is one of the greatest rock singer of all time, and now it's finally catching on. Thank you to Miljenko ("Milli") Matijevic, for being such a cool guy with such a phenomenal talent.
Steelheart was JUST ON THE VERGE of Superstardom but because of a freak accident/injury to Matijevic (lead singer) when an improperly secured stage truss fell on him! But for that ONE freaking accident, Steelheart would have joined Guns & Roses, Motley Crue, etc into Metal Superstardom! What a vocal range on par with and probably BETTER than even Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Axel Rose (GnR) and approaching the female vocal range of those singers from Heart and even getting into Mariah Carey and Celine Dion ranges! DAMN! I miss those days! Everyone gettin' old and going onto the eternal metal stages of the upstairs! RIP Eddy Van Halen -- Guitar God -- Tuesday, October 6, 2020. May We All Never Die Young! V
I don’t think they were close to superstardom tho...They came out around the same time hairband music was ending. The freak accident just accelerated things Yes, the people we grew up listening to are biting the dust. It’s sad
I don't think bands like this....back in these times, realise that they have left a trail of gold. No bands come close anymore. Thanks guys. Your legacy is greater than you think
Thank you Grant!!!! I was 20 and a lead guitar player in 1980!! I watched music evolve after Eddie Van Halen scared the crap out of every one in 1977!! He paved the way for bands like this to become greater guitar players and singers were coming out of the wood works like this until 1993 and grunge took over! It was magical for rock and roll in those times!! Rock wasnt the misfit music in those days!! It was on top of all pop, country for once!
I’m still an 80’s Rocker through and through. What a great time to be young. Every group, didn’t matter. There were a lot of guys with great voices. It was absolutely a prerequisite. But Mili was THE BEST VOICE of the 80’s (great hair and face too 😃). No one will ever be able to beat that voice. It still gives me chills. Gotta look up what he looks like now. I’m not a ballad type of girl, but did love this song.
Ok let's not kid our selves, he was really great. But he was no Lou Gramm, or Steve Perry. I do put him in the top 5, he was very comparable and similar to Freddy Curci, the lead singer of Sheriiff and Alias with the hit's "When I'm with you" and "I need you now".
@@emello4you Oh, I’m not kidding myself. He had the highest register out of all of them. First of all, Lou Gramm was a 70’s guy, as well as Steve Perry. That’s not what I was talking about. I was talking Hair Metal, which both of those guys were not a part of. Listen, I ❤️‘d the 70’s. It was my generation of teenage years so Foreigner and Journey were a huge part, but Rock changed as Rock does, and the decade of decadence came into view. So, I hear you, but wasn’t talking about the 70’s. If we’re gonna do that, Freddy Mercury would be #1, with Bowie, Ozzy, etc. There are just so many great ones! Oh, those were the days 🥹😩🙁. Oh to go back for just 1 night 😔😟!
@@cindylewwho hair bands were the best.. i turned 18 in '81.. right when life started becoming awesome and GnR, the crue, skid row, warrant, poison, def leppard, and omg.. billy squier.. every song on "Dont say no"is a hit ..etc. but i do have to add a 70's group, because Foreigner is another band that has nothing but hits.. love them..
This era - despite all the fun people poke at it (more because society tells them to) - was a pinnacle of rock and roll. Every band had a great vocalist, guitarists who had been playing since they were 4, and a music composition wherewithal that built towards something. There were 400 songs in about a 5 year stretch that everyone would recognize upon hearing them. Were it not for the awkward fashion, people today wouldn't ignore the greatness that happened from 85-90. Were it not for a bunch of depressed drug addicts, the era would have continued well into the 90's and been perhaps the greatest dynasty of styles in music history.
However, this era was in part a backlash against the synth, new wave music of the early 80s. Production was a bit too slick, so some acts sounded generic.
very well put until you blamed fashion and drug addicts for the problem with this era and its continuing , it did continue well into the 90s and evolved into metallica/ pantera and even the rock of today , it spawned off into punk & grunge as well !!! the hair is still evident today and was a product of the 60s the clothes style is still evident in many things popularly worn today and the jeans with the worn spots came from the 70s ! as far as the '"depressed drug addicts" every era has plenty of them thats not the fault of the 80s nor any other problem in this world today , its the people themselves that cause things to change . each individual with their own mind who isnt afraid to show it , is the reason for things changing and that is how it should be and how it is everywhere except the minds of the younger people who dont care to find the truth before posting anything that crosses their mind ! THE MUSIC OF THE 80s EVOLVED JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER TYPE BEFORE IT HAS , it didnt go away because of drugs or clothes , im figuring since there no info on your profile that you came uninformed to this world too . so shut up about things you know nothing about but keep your taste in music its the only thing youve got going for you !!!! sincerely ,
and stop changing your post it just makes you look controlled and only speaking to please others , if the 80s taught anything it was to BE SURE OF YOURSELF AND EXPRESS YOURSELF WITH TRUTH

THE GREATEST VOCALIST THAT EVER LIVED!! 2024. IM STILL HERE DREAMING OF THE 80S.😢
I put him 2nd ...behind Geoff Tate...but ahead of Tony Harnell. Love him
I'm 23 and so thankful to my dad introducing me to this kind of music, theres no going back now! 🤘

Heck i WAS in my 20's early 30's back then and i MISSED THIS!. i was into metal/hair bands of the time. I'm dumbfounded in that i never heard this till now..
I love this guy singing without autotune..
I wish the hairbands would come back for more power ballad romantic love songs 🎵
Hair bands returning? Remember, history repeats itself.
What's Amazing is he could belt these notes perfectly live!
No drum machine and no auto tune!
His vocal range is absolutely incredible. Wow.

That girls got some pipes

What high note does he reach in this song?
This was my dad's favourite song..
My dad died a few days ago,he died from lung cancer... thank u steelheart for this song which my dad enjoyed alot during his lifetime.

Sorry for you loss. Being a now 55 yr old dad to 2 kids(son in my pic just turned 27) daughter 28 I just can't imagine another 20yrs and how old I'll be. :/
Rip to your father
Hair metal bands are the f*****g greatest. Won't never be any better music
AGREED🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Hair metal bands are the lab-grown generic pop music of their day. The same opinion you have of mediocre corporate music created just to make money is literally the definiton of about 70-80% of glam rock bands. Unoriginal lyrics, simple, repetitive compositions, cut-and-paste solo riffs, exchangeable members with no clear uniqueness.
Don't get me wrong, I love that era of music, but let's not blow smoke up their asses.
@@MoonshineSazerac .... Junk, but it's an emotional thing. It felt good and the chicks loved it. It served a purpose and it served it very well.
Now truthfully, blackberry smoke and Cody jinks are top of the line.

He has so much range with his voice, he hits high notes like an opera singer, such talent, His voice brings tears to my eyes
He was an opera singer.
Pat Benatar was classically trained in opera and has a five octave vocal range.
Hitting those high notes in his middle voice without going into falsetto. That's. Amazing.
It's fun watching the video of the vocal coach reacting to this song for the first time. She's stunned.
I've sing this to my youngest son since he was little. When I considered that this might be the song I dance with him at his wedding for the Mother-Son dance, I burst into tears at the idea. He's 16 now. He's an awesome fella. 💗
This was not just a band.....THIS IS LEGEND!
still listening thus song now
even older he still sings awesome

Miss the 80s and early 90s. Rock was awesome, musicians actually were talented. I loved being a teen in the 80s🤘
GREAT times
Me too. Those were some good times. No decade has touched the 80s and never will.
Me too, nothing will ever replace those times!!
Just can't agree more; best teens & best times;; the 80's
Hey how's it going.
One of the greatest voices I've ever heard.
Untouchable vocals!
My husband is in remission from cancer, I have had 2 open heart surgeries and we have been married 26 years
This song is OURS FOREVER!
This song has to be one of the most underrated. His voice range is absolutely amazing!!!
Incomparable. No other heavy metal or hard rock bands had a singer that could touch him. Not even Axyl Rose or Steven Tyler. Nobody that I've heard can top him on that song.....
He could sing.
I wonder if he's ever broken glass? Not many pay can hit the notes he does.I can only think of maybe 3 that come close
@@melvinnixon2378(years later) - Sebastian Bach of Skid Row probably wasn’t on Mili’s level either but Bas was pretty good...

I love his Vocal Range , Man this man Can Really Sing.
I wish someone can perform this song on AGT or The Voice. It would means a lot to these legends.

This song reminds me of high school and my high School sweetheart to bad it lasted for only 14years.

Right on the nose! You look just like someone I sang this song with at karaoke. I'll never do that one again!
Tuvo un accidente en un concierto y el mundo lo olvido,es el rey sin corona, pero con un pelo que te cargas

He can still hit those notes to this day! Such an AMAZING voice!
@Steel official channel heart you are AMAZING 👏🏻 ❤
Wow! What a voice. It's amazing how some singers can take hold of you and transport you to places you never thought you'd go...
How is it I never heard of Steelheart until now? Heavy smooth and hard.❤❤❤
I have 4 children and 6 grandchildren. None would be here without this song 1991
Thank you!
Same. I’m pretty sure at least my oldest (20) was conceived while this song played. Honorable mention to all the ones that didn’t make it while my wife was still on her birth control lol!
That's hilarious

One of the best hair-band voices, not to mention he plays guitar AND piano, and was nice to look at. He's still performing and can still do a decent job of hitting high notes. Very nice song.
I'm 44 and still cranking up the volume to this in my truck 😁
Damn, you don't hear vocal chords like this in rock music anymore.
Not even close!!!!!
Uh...you don't hear rock music anymore.
Tim Hill Very true. lol But even when we still did, the vocals didn't match what we had in the 80's.

Miljenko is one of THE most overlooked, underrated, disrespected male vocalists, regardless of genre, period. And this is coming from a hardcore Geoff Tate fan since the 80s. Man never got the respect he deserved for the range he has, and fearlessness in using it so often. Mad props.
Exactly. Thank you.

Listening to this again after so many years, I have to say the singer may have one of the most powerful and technically perfect voices in rock music.
Idk, I would say Geoff Tate did. ua-cam.com/video/xk84dVq644k/v-deo.html
Agreed
No back tracks, no auto tune, just outta this world range and power!
Backing tracks were very much in use, auto tune was invented the same year this song was written, whilst Steelheart did use backing tracks live this was recorded and produced without auto tune.
It was certainly vocally doubled on the chorus.
I've been saying for a long time that this guy is one of the greatest rock singer of all time, and now it's finally catching on.

Right there with you they are better than the ones you mentioned
I don’t think they were close to superstardom tho...They came out around the same time hairband music was ending. The freak accident just accelerated things
Yes, the people we grew up listening to are biting the dust. It’s sad
That was Bret Michaels from the group Poison that had the stage accident.
@@janshinkaruk7413 Bret has his at the Tony’s. This actually happened to the Steelheart singer

totally true!!!!!!

Say what you will, the 80s had the BEST bands on the planet! I wish I could’ve been a part of it all
So I went to a local club just to see if this guy could actually sing this song live, and he nailed it,incredible
He hits such a steady beautiful octave when he hits the higher scale and he holds that high range without faltering, no break, just steady high pitch

Production was a bit too slick, so some acts sounded generic.
well said
damn I would like that hairstyle to be famous again today!
very well put until you blamed fashion and drug addicts for the problem with this era and its continuing , it did continue well into the 90s and evolved into metallica/ pantera and even the rock of today , it spawned off into punk & grunge as well !!! the hair is still evident today and was a product of the 60s the clothes style is still evident in many things popularly worn today and the jeans with the worn spots came from the 70s ! as far as the '"depressed drug addicts" every era has plenty of them thats not the fault of the 80s nor any other problem in this world today , its the people themselves that cause things to change . each individual with their own mind who isnt afraid to show it , is the reason for things changing and that is how it should be and how it is everywhere except the minds of the younger people who dont care to find the truth before posting anything that crosses their mind !
