I wonder if there is anyone who would disagree that John Williams is the greatest composer of this generation? Or that he can hold his own with the greatest of all time? The sheer volume of work by Mr. Williams is incredible. That so much is so good is a feat that seems impossible.

I like John Williams, but I am partial to Basil Poledouris. "Anvil of Crom", "Lonesome Dove", "Kimberly", and "Quigley Down Under". I hear the influence of Elmer Bernstein in Basil's work.

I would not disagree. Although I might have to say that Nino Rota is very, very close.

I am a freshman and we just did this in band for the spring concert. My teacher is awesome- i thought i would never be able to play it. (Tenor sax) This was one of my favorite songs performed.

Viennese brass playing is the most warm and sonorous of all. I love all these Vienna Brass, Vienna Horns, Art of Brass, and Wiener Waldhorn Verein posts. It is the SOUL that they have in their performances. Bravo All!

3:53-4:48 is the most technically brilliant rendition of the theme I've heard, and I've been listening to variations of this theme since '98.

Many veterans hearing this will have many memories returning to mind, and are probably holding back, or not holding back, tears...

In war when a fellow warrior is struck down, one feels the shock of seeing a human being wasted. Time slows then, for emotions to catch up with reality. To me, this music portrays that person feeling the changing emotions within themselves in a somber reality of what they witnessed and felt. Magnify that by over 1,000,000 times for Americas Fallen because of war, War is hell! Beautiful, inspiring moments in this music to think about all those, worldwide, that have fallen in battle. Thank you, Mr. Williams, for you had to have felt what so many in battle have felt also, and their loved ones after a funeral. Then magnify that too for all those others in the world also lost because of war and battles. War IS hell, along with misery, loneliness and many sacrifices.

Wow! I really enjoyed this! Thank you for the magnificent post. There is a way to play an instrument, and there is a way to play from the soul. This piece was played from the soul.

You, sir, are a persona non grata. I love America, but it's comments like yours that poison a wonderful video. Besides, Vienna is in Austria, as you may have noticed already.

If I had to list three of the top ten composers of the past 100 years off the top of my head, I'd have to say John Williams would be one of the three I'd name right off the bat due to his impressive body of work, with the other two being Ifukube Akira and Uematsu Nobuo for their own equally impressive work and histories. Ifukube worked on most of Toho Studio's top movies, with his centerpiece being the Gojira series. Uematsu, of course, is no slouch, having written the musical scores to most of the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games.

Absolutely fantastic - the recording, arrangement, and performance. If I didn't know any better, I'd have bet that John Williams himself conducted this. Well done

Klasse gespielt und großartiges Orchester. Die aber aus meiner Sicht übertriebene Körpersprache, insbesondere in der ersten Reihe, würde ich als Dirigent mal etwas eindämmen.
Das geht so dominant max. als Solist/in

Ahh, it's a lovely performance but I just couldn't listen to it... you should have EQd the bottom 100Hz or something, it's like there's a car outside listening to hip hop at times.

am i the only one who finds this ironic, because germans are playing this song? I am not being disrespectful in the least, i thought it was weird.
