My belt just broke apart on the freeway, which is why I found this video. In my defense there were only 33K miles on the car, so I really didn't expect that to happen. Do your maintenance folks!
Belts tend to snap on cars that have been sat for long periods of time. The belt (especially as it’s under tension) takes the shape of its position the pulleys. Then when you start driving the car and require it to be ‘flexible’ again… it cracks.
Just to clarify the belt swap was £150, pulleys + belt was £300
Wow. I broke mine doing a pull on the M6 North and had to get towed to MB Hamilton. 2 rear tyres and belt/tensioner was £1900. I hadn't long owned the car and it was squealing when i was using power steering a bit. Generally had a bit of a s/c whine about it & i just thought i'd ask MB to replace the power steering pump at next service. What a costly mistake.....if your C63 don't sound right, get it looked at ASAP. In fairness to the MB garage, they were great as it was nowhere near home so they kept my car a little longer & i asked them to replace the power steering pump to be sure but they told me it was fine & the car drove great after they did the work.
Great video. Thank you. Would you have the torque specs of all 4 guide pulleys? I am replacing mine own tomorrow.
Oh behave, why would you possibly go to all that grief for £150, I’d have told them to crack on and do it for that tbh. Bless you 🙏
£150 was just for the belt, pulleys too was £300. Just showing how you can save £160 with a couple of spanners and some patience 😃
Awesome video, would be handy I’d you noted the torque settings somewhere were we could easily refer to like on the description. Keep it up!
110 euro doesn’t seem bad for labor considering its a mercedes
Hi , my c63 amg w204 is blowing radiator hoses and the temperature is 80-94 celsius , is normal blowing hoses ?
Hi mate. Where did you het the parts from? Are the skf and febi pulley’s good?
2009 c63 with 82k miles showing early stages of head bolt failure :/ topped it off the coolant and when i came back a week later to check almost 1/4 gone with no leaking
(prolly a little less than 1/4 but around there)
what are the early signs of head bolt issues?
@@christianartjocson9694 just coolant slowly but surely starting to dissapear without any signs of leaks
Mine broke on the way home from the shop. Luckily was just a two minute drive home. Very annoying!
Don’t still happen to have the torque settings for the pulleys do you mate ?
You did a good job removing big 100Amp radiator fan but then missed the TENSIONER... it pigeonholes itself and is responsible for limp slipping belt
Not missed, it had been done previously.
Great job.
ChipS R Done!
So is my power Steering Pumper.
Excellent video, checked this before buying the car. Looked again today whilst checking the oil to find it’s frayed. Order up a new belt and x4 pulleys from merc for piece of mind. Thank you 🤙🏼
Thanks man, glad it helped! 🤟
I thought these were chain not belt?
Great video. Thanks
What service manual did you get and where from if you don’t mind me asking
Hi Bud, It was on one of the MB groups, it’s not a full service manual. Just Google serpentine belt diagram W204 C63 and it’ll be on one of the top links 👍
CLS550
nice chat!
haha mine did the same
We're did you buy from
Which tools do I need for the idler pulleys
Good video. The music is getting better.
thank you!
Been looking at these c63’s every night for
About 2months debating wether to take the plunge and go for it.
Most for sale in the UK are around 3hrs drive away from me atm
I think I did about 10 hours driving total trying to find mine!
@@CarThought Most for sale seem to either have the high mileage, high ownership, the wrong wheels or just don’t look in good condition.
Still can’t decide wether to get the coupe or saloon either as I’ve got a 18months old.
Picked up a 2012 coupe just over a week ago, great cars, the sound is really like nothing else. They do drink fuel as you might imagine but 28mpg is possible on longer runs. I prefer the coupe styling (especially the panoramic roof), but getting a kiddie in and out of the back might become tiresome so I'd probably go for the saloon/estate.
Buy one with good service history and if your budget allows, go for a 2012 or later car. They have a nicer interior and the revised head bolts, which are one of the biggest issues with the early m156 engines.
@@NomadJRG thanks for your reply mate,
I too prefer the coupe but as il only have to take the little one to childcare once a day I just don’t know if that will still be a reason to get a saloon.
I’m after a white one with the usual wheels, like this owner and yeah, 12reg or newer
Ones available on autotrader are around the 24grand with 65k on the clock.
Not sure if that’s around the mileage they start having issues but that’s always the chance you take buying any car
@@M12_TDE wouldn't worry too much a out mileage if its been well maintained. At 65k it's worth checking condition of engine mounts, rocker covers for leaks, pulleys for movement as well as listen for ticking from the cam adjusters. Mine has 73k miles and full service history. Just have a thorough test drive. Don't worry about the performance pack, lsd etc as these can be added later. The non performance variant can still take over 700bhp if you supercharge.
How much were the pulleys and the belt?
£41 for the belt, I think just shy of £100 for the pulley kit 👍
@@CarThought thanks mine is same age and miles as yours worth doing for peace of mind at that price.
