Today is a good old fashion wrenching on a car video but with a big twist. What was supposed to be a complete nightmare of a job turned into me learning a hack that could save many 6.3-Liter AMG V8 owners (M156) thousands of dollars and a lot of time. Whether you're doing a power steering pump, engine mounts, air conditioning lines and a few other expensive jobs this hack, this trick that I figured out is going to make your life a lot easier. I hope you enjoy this one and don't forget to get a repair manual for your car. The downloadable version is the best.

So much better than the young u tubers who do this.
They are always holding the camera to their face and not the car.
Thank You
He had to do the clickbaitiest title, just to make sure he was still youtubing..
Adam F Birch don't mind as much if the content is good. Having it be more technical, not many would understand I guess
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww like mr. my name means friend in Russian
Alex has to be one of the classiest mechanical/technician UA-camrs around 👌🏻
Good to see ex Mercedes-Benz master tech doing well after leaving them.
It inspires me to do a UA-cam channel myself to share my 17yrs experience as a Mercedes Benz diagnostic master tech.
Great video!!!
You should!
I'm an apprentice mechanic at the moment that owns a w204 c63, the link he provided for the service manual does not work anymore, what do you use if anything at all? Soon to be replacing my power steering pump + resevoir
Nice build and bringing the C63 back to original condition! Noticed the non matching front tires, better get them changed too
Oh yea. I may get wheels too
As an MB tech I always enjoy seeing your videos come up in my subscriptions to get tips I can put to use!
You know Alex I wanted to say this since I started watching your channel, I really like the background music you got playing during your work on engines, who ever the dj is ,Bravo , I wish I could tape it for my personal tracks😊
As a current master certified Benz tech, I have never seen a 204 power steering pump go out, let alone on one equipped with m156. I've done plenty on 164's and 251's for sure. Coming along nicely Alex.
I spoke to a few MB tech friends and they said the same thing. But really it's just a standard pump so we didn't see too many issues with those.
Alex
I’ve only ever seen the ac compressors fail and I’ve never changed a power steering pump but kudos to you for finding that shortcut and saving yourself some time and aggravation
Guys I have W211 E63 with the power steering groan when I turn the wheel left to right. Since you say the M156 power steering pump that it’s solid do you think it could be a clogged filter in the PS reservoir? I’m used to working on M cars but not on AMGs. This jobs does not look easy.
Please dyno it before and after the e85 flexfuel kit
Dude...as loose as that mount was and as much power as that motor has, it's amazing it did not shatter and cause real damage when the engine decided to pop the hood for you. Bet it sounded like someone pounding the frame with a sledge.
Love seeing an awesome car getting worked on. Great videos!
I am a German Mercedes car mechanic apprentice and we're using the WIS constantly when working on (customer) cars. You can literally take apart the entire engine and put it back together with ease using WIS (We did that during a two week-course). It's so neat especially for beginners because it is so accessible. The cool thing is, once you know your way around it (and it isn't that complicated) you'll know the basics to mostly all modern cars. I'll be using it when I maintain my Merc once I bought it.
what is the "WIS" ?
@@omarparedes7220 the software Mercedes, Mercedes-AMG and Smart technicians use for repair manuals and other instructions.
MBUSA saw this. Revised work instructions are out and the the PS pump R&R now pays 2.4...
Wow... that's crazy. They're probably pissed about the work shirt haha
LMAO
MB might raise dealer rates to $500 per hour
Harry Robertson 2.4 what
@@medogabr9952 2.4 hours, but I was just joking. MB Tech humor LOL!
I love that you are doing all this with the C63. I have a high mileage C63 with the same setup you are going to. Headers, no cats, and stock cat back. the car is a ton of fun! I plan on putting many many more miles on it and I plan on doing quite a few things that you are doing to yours!
You've got a hoist in your garage mate. That's next level commitment to mechanicaning (new word).
Well done fixing that thing. Tricky job.
The best or nothing! Always pleasing to watch a good technician at work. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Montreal!
Nice job on crackin the banjo before you dropped it. Im 63 with 40 years of wrenching and you are a sharp tech.
Great work Alex, I see your liking the Milwaukee power tools, get the mid and high torque M18 impacts and you'll ditch air almost for good. I'd also like to see a WTF/Blooper video some day from you.
True Alex never do blooper video..not fun.
Yeeees meeen. Good work. Cant wait for flexfuel kit thank you bro
Bro you are a legend. I am in Australia and have just purchased a C63. Need someone like you to look after my car.
I just noticed this dude has a legit full car lift on his garage. I wanna be like you when I grow up 🤙🏽
As much as I love big engines in small cars, I think I'll stick to my old OM606 powered W124. There's adequate space in the engine room, removal of engine takes 6-9 bolts, 3 multi-connectors, fuel and cooling hoses, et voila.
Oh, and the serp belt takes literal minutes to switch..
Yesterday, 6/7/2020, my colleague spend the whole day removing this P-pump, nt only that, he removed the compressor also, gas out n so on, seriously he worked it the whole day!! But am Happy, very much happy that today 7/7/2020, I've learned this and understood it. Man you r great ..thumbs up💪👍👍
Also please which fluid-spray did you used to get those sticky oils out before water???
Awesome video Alex! You have given me the confidence to work on my AMG. Thanks man!
Hey Alex big G’Day from Australia !!
I’m a retired Auto mechanic and have a C63 507 edition Coupe best car I have owned my whole life by far 💪👌🏽
Your videos are awesome and a great guide for me when I work on my car keep up the great job
Ps : I hope to have a 2 post hoist I’m my garage soon will make a hell of difference and save my back also 😃
Hey Alex....My Wife loves the Kove speaker you showcased last week....great find!! Ya made me a hero this weekend!! Thankx friend!
I still wear my Saturn SAAB Isuzu shirt when I work in my garage. Always take 1!
omg I've watched this video over 100000 times when I was doing my motor mounts and just realized you had the steps for the power steering pump which im having trouble with right now. BUT thanks to you I can get it off with ease!!
You have a lot of patience to work on these cars and make great videos at the same time. Your awesome with your hands bro, I definitely enjoy watching and learning how to fix these Benz’s.
I love the c63 but we want to see you working on the 320cdi aswell
Parts are killing me right now on that car. Just a big waiting game.
Thoroughly enjoy these videos! Love how honest you are with your wrenching!
With all the components being replaced I would have pulled the engine out. But I like the fact that you are investing your time and sharing your knowledge. Great work union brother!
Thanks Eddie!!
He is trying to show people who may not have room or equipment to do so.
Great content as always Alex. As a fellow W204 owner (admittedly not a C63) I really enjoy watching these. Cheers from the UK
Insane that you can just follow some instructions, use your knowledge and know what to do. This is fascinating even tho I dont understand it all too well
It was such a nice video!
Smart way for removing the pump, bonus repair and for me - the most important part of every repair job - CLEANING! So satisfying to watch!
Keep up with the good work, Alex!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Stealership was not able to identify the power steering reservoir as the issue on my car. Mystery solved and part ordered! :)
Alex, I like the lighting in your shop. So much better than any of the others out there, makes it way easier to see what you’re doing. Your videos always look so professional. I’d like to see you and Edd China team up, but I’m not sure there’s much he could add. Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks Thomas, appreciate that. I think Ed and I could have some fun in the garage. One day, one day.
You can use non-acid based wheel cleaner to clean things like valve covers / intake manifolds easily, completely touchless with water, or you can use a brush to get it really clean. We do this at a dealership.
Yep. I had that combo - Replacing all the accessory pumps on the left side of the engine.
Nice video, subscribed. Really enjoying what you got going on with the C63. Looking forward to the next installment. 10 year ex Mercedes Benz painter here....
Thanks so much for the info in the power steering!!! i have the exact same car and got a little air in the reservoir. I flush the system and changed it out with a new one. No more whining or heavy steering. The kit from FCP Euro was just what i needed thanks!!
Now that you're warmed up when are we shooting the M275 Engine pull for engine mounts, ABC and turbo upgrade video?
e' stato eccellente Alex! Soild work. I just replaced my steering pump in my 993. Same kinda 'advice' in doing steps that could be skipped-lowering subframe, trans-mounts and other covers. No need! Got it in and saved a few hours of labor. Lovin' this channel! Legit Mechanic working on street cars...maybe a rebranding lol! Peace.
Your work was so mesmerising to watch ♥️ loved every minute of it. Working on Mercedes-AMG cars is always very satisfying. Planning to start my own channel with the same. Much respect sir.
Great Job Alex! Since no one seemed to surmise on how the Refrigerant line got damaged, this is it; Bad Motor mounts can lead to other problems albeit unrelated because the engine would be able to move more than it was designed to! Always make sure your mounts are in Good shape:) Also when something on a car is damaged, it is just as important to find out why as it is to fix the problem/replace the part:)
Congrats on leaving the dealership!! i cant wait for that day, im also 10 years master tech at the dealership, cant wait to start my jdm swap star channel.
Subbed, great work and yes those factory manuals arent always the answer but as an MT you showed us an alternative and how you earned that honor.
I now have a 2010 c 63 in the land down under , looking at your videos for hints tips and tricks :)love this channel when you do c63 work
the title has me dying, perfect parody of those silly clickbait ads. nice job bringing this abused monster a new lease on life.
...until I learned this one trick. LOL
Single mothers are making thousands of $$$ at home with this trick...
If you could in a future video give us some pointers on your pressure washing technique in the engine compartment. I would be really nervous with high pressure water going into my engine compartment with all the electrical connections and air intake and what not. I would like to do it I just don't want to do it and have a no start condition. Thanks
I'm a mechanic and have been pressure washing to clean my engines for almost 20 years with gunk gel engine degreaser and have never had an issue except when I first started wrenching I soaked a distributor lol just had to dry it out but I don't cover anything in the engine bay unless it's a distributor or alternator but you can spray your alternator QUICK with water if its covered in oil don't just sit on it spraying quick swipe. I do this to my 03 S55 several times when making ABC and oil leak repairs.
Keep up the great content ALEX! I always comment to help with your engagement results!
Thanks, brother. That stuff is so important on UA-cam so I really appreciate it.
Alex
As a fellow M156 owner, this is super cool to see. Love this build!
Thanks for the video, just sent my one to the service center to have the power steering pump done so great to see how they do it !
Best Mercedes AMG videos come from the USA. I love your editing, always looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work, my fear of the big mercs declines every day. Greetings from the homecountry
Eike from Germany
Try "eagle one etching mag wheel cleaner" for aluminum. Nothing beats that
One can really tell that you have a ton of experience, compared to some other youtubers. 👍
You are lucky to have this equipments in your garage 👍
The best DIY videos on UA-cam. Links...tips...coupon codes. Alex is doing it right. Thank you!
Alex,my name is Bill and l am trying to get a Mercedes 2007 workshop manual. What do I need to do?
Alex my name is Bill and Iam trying to get a Mercedes workshop manual. What do l need to do?
Just saved $6 on one of the e manuals. Thanks for the code. Hope it is as good as the one you had pictured!
They send me a manual for a 1994 Chevy truck when I needed one for a 2002 Suburban. So far NOT impressed with this company. I hope they make it right.
I guess I'm lucky then ? because I've got this same 6.2 V8 M156 engine in my 2009 CLS63 AMG and it gives a bit more room to work on this great engine !
It is still hard to believe how they managed to get this engine to fit in the W204 C class....I am guessing that they used more compact exhaust manifolds and a more shallow engine sump perhaps ? either way I love those C63's, They are very cool cars 👍👍👍
One of the most underrated channels ever. I’m glad you hijacked Samcrac’s comment section so I could find you.
Thanks for posting videos. I have watched a few and you have convinced me that I never want one of these cars.
Hey Alex, hello from Australia. Really like watching your video's. I've got an B8 A4 3 0tdi and love doing the work myself too. Cheers man
Bought the service manual for my E320 (W210 shop manual), thanks for the link. Great channel.
Creative Steel engine and trans mounts....thank me later! haha Great Job Alex!
Lovely video, very content-rich. Makes me want to get a c63. Keep it up.
You should try citrol degreaser made by scheaffers, it is amazing how well it works on everything from grease to soap, and its water based.
Sounds really amazing and i cant wait to see this thing with factory tail pipes its gonna look amazing.
Now that had to be a real high to get all that done. Great job!!!
Will be a really nice one when your finished with it🙂
Brilliant video once again! Very detailed and really can’t wait for the next one! May I suggest something like hammerite metal paint for all the areas rust are beginning to show underneath? It will preserve it a lot longer that’s for sure! Especially on a amazing car such as the C63 it’s worth it!
Been following this series. I purchased a new F80 M3 ZCP, but for some reason the older C63 507 edition just talks to me. It's got to be that V8. :)
Love the vids keep them coming.
Thing about these cars, they’re an absolute nightmare to work on sometimes but the rewards outweigh the mental anguish for sure!
Alex. Very good and satisfying video to watch.
I learned a lot about my favourite AMG M156 engine . Thanks man. Cant wait for more videos with the C63 from you👍
when changing the engine mounts you have to change all 3 engine and gearbox.
He said in the video this was temporary while he waits for the billet mounts to arrive, which he’s putting in when he puts the headers on.
Absolutely digg'n your music track selection
Excellent tip, I have to do my engine mounts on my c63, I may attempt it now instead of sending to MBZ
Nice video Alex. Really like this one as you are right into it all and all of the video is really interesting. Good work!
This was soo good n satisfying to watch!!
This C63 will become mechanically, suspension, bushings, engine, and exterior as well, perfect condition car for insanely good price. It is a key you can do all the work yourself, like with all the rebuild channels, but I think this deal will be really on the cheap side for what the car will become. All the small things you did, engine mounts are important, so engine doesn't jump in the engine bay, AC, power steering, all the small thigns, plus the big think previous owner thought he had going on- the head bolts, he decided it is time to let the car go for cheap. Now you fixed the small things around, engine is fine, and you end up with awesome car.
Wish I could give you my W204 with M271 motor to do the timing chain, tensioners and cam gears.. thats a video the internet desperately needs to be made by you no one else!
Great to see someone working on these beasts! I also have a 2010
Loving C63 content. Thanks Alex!
cool tip on filling pwr steer fluid, looking forward on R143 fill vid
Great job Alex! That engine is sure hard to work on.
Great vid Alex. Can't wait to hear that beast with the headers!!
Dude me too!
Alex can you go more in depth with Cam Shaft and lifter wear? I understand headbolts problems are mainly on the older C63 models from 2009-2011
Another approach is to remove the 4 rads and go the bumper and go directly to the pump..
You could've take out the front end for that job,I've done it lot easier and way more space to work but the final result is there👌
Thanks Alex, love it when you do these repairs! Can't wait till you get those headers on.
I get up super early, about 6. I work on cars and film until about 2 pm. Then leave for work so I get there by 3:30. It's kind of far. I get home at midnight from my normal job. Film days are a little crazy to say the least. I did this 3 days this week and then I edit as I go or very late into the night.
@@LegitStreetCars Wow long days, great dedication to producing some great material for us to enjoy. Love the detail you go into explaining it as you go. Hope to have a 507 edition in the next couple years. Your hard work will pay off for me :)
Alex, thanks for an awesome DIY! Can you please DIY that orange reflector off that front bumper?
Alex you are so right about saving time and working smartly and safely, there's more than one way to skin a cat! Those instructions are just one way someone else did it and you my friend found another way
Well done ! On what looked to be an impossible home repair.
😂 servicing the P/S pump is like working on my Cayenne Turbo!
Alex is the kind of legit street guy who doesn't do blooper videos.
Love your videos Alex. Keep it going brother. Its amazing to watch you work theese german machines.
Bah, what a whiner....if you only had the Haynes manual for the C63, it would be clear, "remove the power steering pump, replace with new pump, installation is the reverse of dissasembly".... ;)
Right? Worst $20 spent my m203😆
Love the C63 content. I miss mine dearly. And flex fuel! Nice! That was my next mod as well if I had kept it.
There are always tricks. The FSM is great to follow the first and second time, but as you go to pull things apart you learn what can be "shortcut" and how to pull things more efficiently. When I was a tech I always used the FSM for the first time I did a job, but you learn what can be done in one step and what steps are not really necessary. Unless it is engine work, then the FSM is stronger than the bible.
Love it as always. Keep up the good work bro.
EZ Off oven cleaner works like magic on bare metal and plastic (and powder coated metal) but you might want to try a small area on regular painted surfaces. Also, neutralize with vinegar and water after use.
Totally going to try it. Thanks!!
The pin connectors on the flexfuel kit are prone to bad connections. (Eflexfuel) almost better to hardwire it. They sent me 3 kits, one harness had larger pin terminals vs the others and solved my issues.
Thanks man!
