Today is a good old fashion wrenching on a car video but with a big twist. What was supposed to be a complete nightmare of a job turned into me learning a hack that could save many 6.3-Liter AMG V8 owners (M156) thousands of dollars and a lot of time. Whether you're doing a power steering pump, engine mounts, air conditioning lines and a few other expensive jobs this hack, this trick that I figured out is going to make your life a lot easier. I hope you enjoy this one and don't forget to get a repair manual for your car. The downloadable version is the best.

As a current master certified Benz tech, I have never seen a 204 power steering pump go out, let alone on one equipped with m156. I've done plenty on 164's and 251's for sure. Coming along nicely Alex.

I spoke to a few MB tech friends and they said the same thing. But really it's just a standard pump so we didn't see too many issues with those.

Guys I have W211 E63 with the power steering groan when I turn the wheel left to right. Since you say the M156 power steering pump that it’s solid do you think it could be a clogged filter in the PS reservoir? I’m used to working on M cars but not on AMGs. This jobs does not look easy.

Dude...as loose as that mount was and as much power as that motor has, it's amazing it did not shatter and cause real damage when the engine decided to pop the hood for you. Bet it sounded like someone pounding the frame with a sledge.

I am a German Mercedes car mechanic apprentice and we're using the WIS constantly when working on (customer) cars. You can literally take apart the entire engine and put it back together with ease using WIS (We did that during a two week-course). It's so neat especially for beginners because it is so accessible. The cool thing is, once you know your way around it (and it isn't that complicated) you'll know the basics to mostly all modern cars. I'll be using it when I maintain my Merc once I bought it.

As much as I love big engines in small cars, I think I'll stick to my old OM606 powered W124. There's adequate space in the engine room, removal of engine takes 6-9 bolts, 3 multi-connectors, fuel and cooling hoses, et voila.
Oh, and the serp belt takes literal minutes to switch..

Great Job Alex! Since no one seemed to surmise on how the Refrigerant line got damaged, this is it; Bad Motor mounts can lead to other problems albeit unrelated because the engine would be able to move more than it was designed to! Always make sure your mounts are in Good shape:) Also when something on a car is damaged, it is just as important to find out why as it is to fix the problem/replace the part:)

If you could in a future video give us some pointers on your pressure washing technique in the engine compartment. I'm a mechanic and have been pressure washing to clean my engines for almost 20 years with gunk gel engine degreaser and have never had an issue except when I first started wrenching I soaked a distributor lol just had to dry it out but I don't cover anything in the engine bay unless it's a distributor or alternator but you can spray your alternator QUICK with water if its covered in oil don't just sit on it spraying quick swipe. I do this to my 03 S55 several times when making ABC and oil leak repairs.

It is still hard to believe how they managed to get this engine to fit in the W204 C class....I am guessing that they used more compact exhaust manifolds and a more shallow engine sump perhaps ? either way I love those C63's, They are very cool cars 👍👍👍

This C63 will become mechanically, suspension, bushings, engine, and exterior as well, perfect condition car for insanely good price. It is a key you can do all the work yourself, like with all the rebuild channels, but I think this deal will be really on the cheap side for what the car will become. All the small things you did, engine mounts are important, so engine doesn't jump in the engine bay, AC, power steering, all the small thigns, plus the big think previous owner thought he had going on- the head bolts, he decided it is time to let the car go for cheap. Now you fixed the small things around, engine is fine, and you end up with awesome car.

Alex can you go more in depth with Cam Shaft and lifter wear? I understand headbolts problems are mainly on the older C63 models from 2009-2011

Another approach is to remove the 4 rads and go the bumper and go directly to the pump..

I get up super early, about 6. I work on cars and film until about 2 pm. Then leave for work so I get there by 3:30. It's kind of far. I get home at midnight from my normal job. Film days are a little crazy to say the least. I did this 3 days this week and then I edit as I go or very late into the night.

@@LegitStreetCars Wow long days, great dedication to producing some great material for us to enjoy. Love the detail you go into explaining it as you go. Hope to have a 507 edition in the next couple years. Your hard work will pay off for me :)

Bah, what a whiner....if you only had the Haynes manual for the C63, it would be clear, "remove the power steering pump, replace with new pump, installation is the reverse of dissasembly".... ;)

Love the C63 content. I miss mine dearly. And flex fuel! Nice! That was my next mod as well if I had kept it.

There are always tricks. The FSM is great to follow the first and second time, but as you go to pull things apart you learn what can be "shortcut" and how to pull things more efficiently. When I was a tech I always used the FSM for the first time I did a job, but you learn what can be done in one step and what steps are not really necessary. Unless it is engine work, then the FSM is stronger than the bible.

EZ Off oven cleaner works like magic on bare metal and plastic (and powder coated metal) but you might want to try a small area on regular painted surfaces. Also, neutralize with vinegar and water after use.

The pin connectors on the flexfuel kit are prone to bad connections. (Eflexfuel) almost better to hardwire it. They sent me 3 kits, one harness had larger pin terminals vs the others and solved my issues.
