DESPITE having an age gap of 30 years, married couple Melinda and Larry Mikla have revealed their baby plans to their friends and family. Mindy, 27, and Larry, 57, are saving up for a procedure that Mindy describes as the ‘mild version of In Vitro or IVF’. With a 95 percent chance of success, the happy couple, from Florida, are now more than hopeful they will be able to become parents in the near future - even though Larry had a vasectomy back in the early 90s. Larry already has a son, 27-year-old Bruce Mikla - the same age as Mindy - but this would be Mindy’s first child. When Larry and Mindy first met, Mindy didn’t feel like she wanted children, but as her big wedding day loomed, she began to have a change of heart.

I saw their first Barcroft video & fell in love with this couple. I'm so glad they are happy. Baby or not, I wish them the best. My father was in his 50's when I was born- and I wasn't a surprise baby. My parents were newly married & had both had boys from previous marriages. They wanted a girl. They got it right on the first shot. I'm grateful to have been born out of the great love I know they shared. I'm 54 now, but never had a thought that my dad was "too old" to be my parent. He was just my dad. And even though he was quite a bit older than my mom, she absolutely adored him. He passed away first, & she never stopped missing him till the day she died. Now they're back together, & someday we'll all be together as a family in Heaven.

I applaud the courage it took for these two to come out publicly. Love happens all the time with large age gaps. You don’t always choose who you really fall in love with, sometimes it becomes a magnetic attraction you can’t walk away from. They look genuinely in love to me.
Yep. There is no age on love. My husband was 20 years older than myself. The only drawback was he passed at 57, with colon cancer, and I was a widow at 37. But we had 15 wonderful years together!!

I'm someone who's parents have an age gap relationship. They also married at an older age. My dad was 60 when I was born. From my personal experience, I really don't think it's a good idea to have kids when you're that old. One of the hardest things I have to cope with is knowing my dad won't be around for my wedding, my kids being born, or any other important event in my adult life and I wouldn't wish that upon anyone else. Ik that people lose their parents when they're young regardless of age, but it's a lot less likely to happen if you're not as old when you have children. Still, I wish them the best of luck and this isn't a hate comment! I love my dad and I'm so grateful for him but there are negatives to having kids at an older age that I think people may not realize.

Yeah that’s a totally fair comment like there are different things to consider with regards to the future of a relationship when both people aren’t going through their stages of life together. I think they seem like a very mature and sensible couple but things like deterioration of health with age etc and the weight that might put on the younger partner etc are legitimate points, particularly with such a large gap.

They had a falling out, because Larry was still married when he started to date Mindy. They met and started to date in 2012, Larry got divorced in 2015 amd tied the knot for a second time in 2016.
Kind of sad to hear Bruce wanting to be in their lives, yet Mindy, whenever someone asks about him, she gets defensive and blocks them. His half-brother will be one, and they haven't met yet.

Unless his father did not raise him up to be independent, moving away shouldn’t be an issue at all. Also, if someone is always nasty to you, would you keep trying to talk to that person? Please don’t pretend to be a saint when you’re not.

He isn't fully closed off to the idea of a relationship with a step-sibling and is moving forward in a positive direction with his relationship with his father's wife. She seems open, warm, and not hostile or rude so she could help him understand and better highlight his attractive qualities and get that text back. We don't know what happened with Larry's ex-wife/girlfriend and Bruce's mother. He may have abandonment issues and that's why he's fearful of a relationship. He may have unresolved issues with his father so the resentment is being placed on the new wife. We don't know.

Honesty I feel having kids is worse than anything else. People who have kids can’t think friends can be my family to it’s sick. Forcing another sentient being into existence is a very selfish act in my book and that’s what people should think about when having kids.

I agree. I would get them coming up to tell them there pregnant, but usually trying for a baby doesn't need a personal face to face formal announcement. There married they don't need approval or to tell ppl there business in there marriage. If they were so "close" to share that with family then I don't get why they moved. At that age, 30, 40 years ago, a person that age was already working, established, married with kids and very mature. It seems nowadays everyone under 35 acts and thinks like a teenager.

Kids and Adults stopping giving step parents a hard time if they're not harming you or anyone else. My real dad wasn't in my life and I would've love to have my real dad around regardless of his age. Thank God I had a step dad but regret that I gave him a hard time b/c he wasn't my real dad. A few months before I gave birth to my 1st child he died and it was so painful cause I finally apologized to him and thanked him for still loving me as his own and never giving up on me even though I was mean at times. He was so happy seeing me happy about to become a mother rub my stomach talk to the baby give me advice. . had become closer then ever and then he was gone. I wish I could go back to my childhood and allowed him to really be my dad. To all the kids who have step parents that are willing and trying to be there and love u as there own. Please allow them too don't be hateful towards them cause u may regret it one day and when u realise that you were wrong and wanna build a relationship it could be too late and God can take them away. Now my kids have no grandfather at all and I just wish he was here cause he would've been an awesome grandpa.

It was to let them know because they had previously said that they weren't going to have children. It's a normal thing to tell your friends and family when you start trying to have a baby. Most people don't realize that because nowadays so many babies are accidents.
