(this is from the perspective of a hobbyist artist) i feel like a lot of people focus on “consistency” when it comes to style when in reality fluidity and range in of itself is a great skill. being able to experiment with different things constantly is how i came to discover my own style- or rather, comfort zone- and i find that’s the most fun part. confining myself to a single “style” only hindered my growth when i began to start drawing, because i had a preconceived notion of what art should look like. framing the drawings i make as different projects with set goals in mind to accomplish (mood, genre, etc) is a great way to bring some cohesiveness and thought into the drawings i make! anyhow, this video is very insightful and i’ll be sure to apply what i learned from it
@@behindzerosp i recognize that! i just think (especially for younger artists who are new to posting their art online or people earlier on in their artistic journey) that there is a lot of pressure to immediately establish a style. learning consistency certainly has its merits and it’s an important skill, but i feel like that’s a skill you establish later on rather than trying to pigeonhole yourself into it from the get-go. i forget who exactly said this, but there was an artist that aptly pointed out that it’s not a signature way of drawing, but a signature way of seeing (how you abstract things, etc). everyone has different needs for their art style + what they want their art to accomplish though
2:03 controversial opinion: the most complex medium isn't just 'animation' but specifically animation for video games. it has all the complexities of animation, plus the level of player feedback and interactability games need to feel good to play

Okay here goes nothing. I have been struggling with major depressive disorder for the last 7 years. It used to be easier to manage but once the pandemic hit my mental health tanked. I stopped drawing (except for the occasional sketch), and (for the most part) I stopped communicating with people. I havent been able to work the last year and at the moment I'm struggling to get out of bed in the morning and perform basic self care. I know that starting and finishing something like this is a long shot for me, but I want to give it a try. You've inspired me to start drawing and learning about art again. You have no idea how much that means to me. Thank you for reigniting a passion for something so dear to my heart.
10:30 most people I think follow and compare to professionals no matter the gap in skill level. But there is a different between saying "I like to draw" and "I am an artist." We can still be a bad artist but keep improving by being motivated to one day develop our craft to the same level as the people we admire.

The effectiveness of an exorcism for self destructive behaviors, accompanied by some sound words, made for a delightfully unexpected approach to a pep talk. Very first video I’ve seen on this channel and I’m blown away. This is going to be all I do for a few weeks, just wait. My ADHD and fascination with descriptive story telling in various mediums are going to get me back into drawing and story design guaranteed. Maybe I’ll do more with it this time or maybe I’ll just regain a fun creative outlet for my hobby wheel-and if I’m honest I’m pretty happy with the idea of either.

I've felt that was wrong and now I have confirmation. 2) I'm working on a project and decided to use an animatic (which I now learned is its own medium). This video was really impressive to me personally. It perfectly captures your professional status. "This is why I was paid the big bucks" the way you're able to take the nebulous ideas and feelings and explain them and then turn them into an idea. This kind of thing used to take me days to put into "words" and then turn into a drawing. I might have just had a "lightbulb" moment watching this that'll speed up my whole process.
Yep, this is a cool method. It's really similar to what I've learned for screenwriting. The interesting thing for me is that genre and story changed significantly as my idea developed so after a few hours references that I've chosen didn't really fit anymore and I had to change them. So, now I have a cool concept for a story and a few characters that I could potentially fill my entire instagram account with. But every illustration idea I can come up with goes far beyond anything I've drawn before and I have to come up with a way to keep it manageable in terms of difficulty level 😔

YESS I WAS LOOKING FOR SUCH A COMMENT!! Mxtx's novels are such gems but the adapted animations of hers including Heaven Official's Blessing are so so criminally underrated!! The wuxia, xianxia and even danmei stories (to oversimplify: Chinese fantasy Media) and genre as a whole can be such huge sources of inspiration in many different storytelling and art prospects!! I was so very pleasantly surprised with how well the CGI blended in Hob btw!
