Thanks for the plug, Rick. I sure know what you mean by the crowd at this show. Saturday was super crowded, to the point where collectors don’t seem to be in as good a mood to buy. Sunday was a little more relaxed until the crime wave hit. If you haven’t heard, some teenage kid stole something, the dealer called him on it, and he tried to make run for it. Until security and police took him down and arrested him. Getting out of control. In the end I had a good time doing the show. Anyway, thanks again. I always enjoy your videos.
Great to see you Rick. Thanks for posting this fun video. We kind of had similar boyhood collecting styles, and I too revere my 70s sets. One of the first things I did when I got back in the hobby was put these sets into binders, and also upgrade beaten up cards. I enjoy looking at these sets. Timeless to me.
Ahhh Chuck, the 70s cards were the best. Definitely the cards I am most attached to in my collection. My cards as a kid were so beat up that I would have had to upgrade practically all of them. I just remembered there were nights I'd leave them outside. How I came back to collection and taking care of my cards, I will never know! Thanks so much for watching!
Congratulations Rick on completing your 68 Topps set! That’s a tough one just because of the Rookie Nolan Ryan and Johnny Bench and the second year Tom Seaver! Thanks for sharing my friend!
Congrats on finishing your 68 set and your childhood cards, Rick! That Ryan RC is a beauty! I remember Nate Colbert. He was the big star for a very bad Padres team back in the day. I love the Riley card. I just purchased a couple of Gail Goodrich cards from 71 and 72. I can't wait for them to show up.
Thanks Steve! I love the Ryan. Nice to have it back in my collection. I have the 71 Goodrich. I used to think Gail and Pat were like the cool guys on the Lakers as a kid.
Looking for childhood cards through boxes and boxes and then finally finding it later, sure brings back memories...of just about every week for me. LOL Great video Rick. Have a great Thanksgiving my friend.
Mike, boxes and boxes indeed. How I never lost a card besides the Ryan is beyond me. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, my friend! I'll be at my sisters house out by you!
Hi Rick! Congrats on completing the 1968 Topps set! Way to finish it off with probably the most iconic card of the 1960s. It would be either that or the Pete Rose. How cool that you were able to acquire all the cards from your childhood that you remember. It’s funny how certain cards stay with us in our minds. I got a few cards in the mail the other day, and they were ones I had as a kid. The funny thing is, I hadn’t seen them in person in probably close to 40 years. I don’t go to card shows like you, so when I see cards from my childhood, it’s the first time I’ve laid eyes on them since I was probably 10 or 11 years old. I love the background on the Bob Reinhard card. I find some of the choices for the backgrounds in the 1950 Bowman football set to be fascinating. Is he at a football game or a barroom brawl? Haha. I didn’t know Nate Colbert was that good. Boy, he is one happy man on that card. I believe Cobb hit five home runs in a doubleheader too. I recall reading that he did it to prove to people he could hit home runs like Babe Ruth. Who knows if that’s true. Nice ’69 El Tiante! The Golden Era HOF Ballot has five guys I would love to see get in, and Tiant is one of them. If I had to pick three, like the committee, I would go with Parker, Allen, and Boyer. It’s so hard to leave Garvey and Tiant off, but I’d have to save them for the next time around. Great story about your bartering days as a kid-you had some pretty nice cards come your way. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Terry! I would say Rose, Ryan and 67 Seaver are the three iconic cards of the 60s. It's strange how the mind works. I'll look at a card online or at a show and vividly remember I owned it once and then I buy it just cause I owned it once. Interesting that you haven't seen a card in person for 40 years but you still remember owning them. For me at least there is something special about owning a card from our youth. Reinhard looks like he was in a barroom ball. The one Rams card that a player isn't wearing a blue jersey. I am so stuck on my choices for the HOF. Naturally I'd like to see Garvey, but I don't see it happening. I think Parker and Allen get in. I was a trader when I was a kid. Now, I just buy. Everytime I picked up one of the four cards, I'd wonder if I'd get all four. The first three were somewhat easy to find over the years, but the 68 Ryan was a pain. Payback for selling it when I was 22. Thanks for watching, Terry!
Congrats Rick on finishing the 68 set what a great Nolan and koosman rookie. I know you already know this but a suggestion for your ungraded 69 Nolan is send it to his charity and get it autographed. Cheers my friend.
@@Insidethepark24 Those are legit plans. Heard the show was a disaster to get into today cause of dramatically long lines. I see your question made it on to Chris Sewall's show. Congrats on the Jackie!

Hey Rick! Good going on reacquiring the cards you remember having when you were a kid! I actually gave away most of my collection about 15 years ago when I made the big mistake of thinking I was done with collecting. And when I started collecting again, I made sure I got all the cards I remembered having. Well, mostly. I sold a couple of complete sets as well as some near mint Hassan Triple Folders, which I really don't have any plans to reacquire. But I did get back cards such as my 1955 Topps Gene Conley, my 1960 Leaf Ken Hunt, my 1963 Fleer Tito Francona, and my 1967 Topps Wayne Causey! There are so many great 1969 Topps cards. The Tiant is a classic. And I did not know that about Nate Colbert! I remember that card, though. Anyway, congrats again on getting back those cards!
I never knew you gave away your collection. That is a story you're going to have to share one day. Sounds like you had a very nice 60's collection. Always fun to get them back! I was impressed by home runs as a kid, thus I paid a lot of attention to Nate Colbert. Thanks for watching, Gannon!
Hey Rick…Congratulations on completing your childhood set! Miraculously I still have the first card I ever collected which is the 1974 Topps Ron Cey. Hey…now that you’re done I’ve got your next set collection project. Top Hippie cards! You can combine that great 72’ Pat Riley card with that Mickey Lolich card. The Lolich family has owned an organic fruit/vegetable farm up here in the Portland area for many decades and they’re known for their “jam band” music events as well. I’ll throw in my 77’ Bill Walton and Pete Maravich cards and you’ll have the start of a unique collection that I’ve never seen anyone attempt to collect before. The World today needs some Peace and Love and you’re the perfect card collector to deliver it. Thanks for sharing your cards 🙏✌
Man, that would require a lot of work, Todd! I would add the 1977 Topps Al Hrabosky card to that list! Loved Pistol Pete and the Big Red Head! I didn't know that about Lolich, interesting fact. As Ringo still says everyday "Peace and Love, Todd!"
Sometimes the old creased cards are the best cards because they're the most cherished. Gosh, Nolan Ryan looks so thin and serious in 1969!
Great to see you back! Way to finish your childhood collection and that Jerry Koosman RC is awesome!
