The cooperation is needed for sure but it's silly to have to call one service from another when backend coding should be written to see what services your accounts have and execute the command with the appropriate service for you. I'm not going to always remember which skill Cortana has vs. Alexa but I am going to want one of them to respond and execute my commands.
It would be great if Cortana and Alexa actually worked. I have it setup and linked and when I tell Alexa to open Cortana it does but when I ask Cortana to read my new email, which I know I have, she says I don't have any new email. So I decided to ask her what's on my calendar for tomorrow. I know there's something there because I'm actually a network administrator and have an IT meeting tomorrow at 2:30pm and she says I don't have anything on my calendar. I've confirmed it's lined to the one and only Outlook account I have. I'm just going to have to wait for an actual Alexa skill that can do all of this and bypass Cortana. Truth be told I shouldn't have to use two assistant apps to do something one should be able to do do.
Smartphones have always-listening microphones. Your PC has microphones. Smart TVs have microphones. Everyone is listening to your very, very mundane conversations and let me tell you, SUUUUUUPER interesting stuff. Related: If you're a super spy, super criminal, political dissident, or just generally paranoid that the world cares about your life, then a couple of tips: (1) Get off of UA-cam, I mean, really Google account? Dude. If you're using an Android phone just delete your account already. (2) Don't buy technology with microphones. (3) Make sure to by bug repellent for your new life in a cabin in the woods. 👍

great partnership! i truly hate the other ai assistants and i miss cortana on windows 10 mobile since i had to leave.... :(. great on a pc or your surface(s) but those aren't devices you have at the hip at all times. at least with this, the accessibility goes way up there and you don't have to open or turn on a computer to get it
It's okay, I mean the time it takes to just tell what's the next appointment I would rather use my phone or Google. You can argue but calling Alexa to call Cortana to get that is not just what we want. I want to be excited but it's just waste of time.

Voice assistants are still more of a gimmick , but still its a welcome break from googlizing everything . The more competition the better.

I just tried opening Alexa through Cortana and it worked. It just asked me to sign in and I am in Canada.
