*PSA:* This arc is not "filler" but comes straight from the source material. And Sunraku isn't saving the world from the Seven Colossi or trapped in Shangri-la's Frontier... he can *AND WILL* play other games as suits him just like real people do.
It's literally a gamer's daily life. Grinding/playing multiple games, finds one that catches their whole attention, and sticks with it for a long time. Happens to every gamer at some point and honestly this anime is awesome for going this route. MC has troubles we all share involving video games, and he's neither a shut-in or loner, but just really passionate about a certain type of games and does touch grass.
Its not like the 1st time in this series that Sunraku played other games after starting Shangri-la's Frontier. He needs time off that intense game to avoid burn out. ☺
@@RealTimberWolfeGaming Great example actually as i also started playing it more. I really want to try out the jets part (Top gun got me in the mood) and itll def take me awhile

I just watched episode 10 of Let this Grieving Soul Retire: is this anime and Shangri-La Frontier in anyway related to each other? Director? Author? Anything?
@@gwings5607 Yeah not only that but the "main plot" of this anime is just Sunraku and company looking for more and more involved ways to play a video game so that they can have epic fights. Their goal in story is not to save the world or find the one piece or clear their names for a crime they did not commit, their goal is just to have fun fights and adventures in a video game. The only thing that stops this from being the "main plot" of the anime is that it's about Sunraku having an epic fight in a different video game. So the idea that this is some major deviation from the normal format of this show is odd. It is also setting up some background for the next story arc apparently and introducing new characters. Just a general comment: Even if this show had a more focused plot though characterization (showing what motivates the characters and how they work and how the world works) is an important part of the story. An episode in a show that focuses on characters over the main plot isn't automatically doing something inferior, filling out the world and characters isn't automatically the same thing as empty padding of the story to fill run time.
really disappointed with this plot arc. its just like the gun gale online seasons of sword art online. you cant just randomly change to a different genre that appeals to a different audience mid show. 3 episodes is way too long to spend with giant robots instead of a fantasy rpg.
Maybe you're just looking at it differently by the way you're bringing up sword art online. This isn't it. Yeah the story is a guy playing video games but He doesn't get stuck inside a fantasy RPG world lol. He isn't here to have some higher purpose or high stakes plot, point is the guy just wants to play games so the guy goes on to play another game.
@@DefinitelyNotaHertaPuppet Exactly. And we already saw robots and mechs in SLF as well as sunraku playing other games in S1 so how is changing genres in games a problem now?
Comparing this to SAO is blasphemy, both shows are different genres and are good for different reasons, and thus can’t be compared. As penance, I demand that you go to a shrine, have three buckets of holy water dunked over your head, and pray to the kami for 10 minutes. If you have to compare SAO to something, then compare it to Log Horizon, which is actually the same genre.
@@coltonwilliams4153 Im not comparing it to sword art online in general. Only that they made the exact same mistake. Lots of people love gun games, but those are different people than enjoy fantasy RPGs. Likewise SLF is a fantasy RPG. The viewers want to self insert to the fantasy hero role wishing that the slightly more advanced that present day technology existed to allow fantasy RPGs in full dive VR with sentient bunny people as NPCs. It is a completely different set of people who just want to watch giant robots fight. Know your audience and give them what they want. Magic, monsters, and bunny girls.
