Eric, this is Janet. This is the second time I have watched this video. I really need to check out some of your other videos. This is the first year that we attempted an in ground garden on our property. It basically was drowned out with rain and water table. I too am interested in permaculture. I took horticulture classes at the local college but it is more geared to beautification. I hope that we can do more to prepare for next spring. I have attended many classes. It is not just a school, it is a Family. I missed going to the scout classes. I do not know if there will be anymore offered. I know that the logistics was immense last I heard. Now with world issues, who knows?
I do not know when you took your classes but welcome to the Family.

Hi Janet, thanks for the kind words. 🙏 ❤️
The last class I took in person was Jorges escape class in 2011 I think and then I volunteered for a standard and philosophy 1 in 2013 summer/fall. My first class was in 2004. I’m currently in Northern California so I’d be happy to take your excess water. 😬
For me permaculture was a great middle ground between regular life and tracker life. I can’t recommend Geoff Lawton enough for more permaculture videos.
      Cheers

great vid. I attended the Standard back in the summer of 1987 and have never forgotten any of it! I wonder how different it is!

Thanks Damon, I imagine it would be hugely different to what you experienced in 87. If you ever go back I’d love to know your perspective on the changes.

@@EricSeider Well, when I was there, Tom told us there was more and more interest in Native philosophy and spirituality. The cross section of students was probably similar - hippies, ex military types, hunters, and people who want to be/feel part of nature.
. I am just past 50 yo - life happened but never forgot the lessons and his school only enhanced my love and feeling of belonging with nature. I'd want to go back and take advanced standard and then scout.

@@Ego_Katana I remember Tom saying that taking the standard class would give you a good chance of surviving a “collapse “ scenario but taking the scout class would guarantee it. The scout class was awesome.

Yes friction fire is a very spiritual experience, and I fell asleep sitting up in my scout class while the rest of my team was talking i was very exhausted but I loved every minute of it!

Aaron Dyer that first bow drill coal changed my life.

@@EricSeider yes, actually my very first coal was with a hand drill, every day after that I forced myself to get a hand drill coal for 2 years straight and then bow drill. I mean when I accomplished the first coal the feeling was tremendous and I felt like I could anything! It was Awesome 👌
