Thnx for reply, work hard, so well, we r inspired by your vdo watching &learn a lot, to day is our independence day, iam from India🇮🇳. Thnx God bless🙏 you sir. My good👍 wishes always with you🙏
You constantly instruct us to "spin clockwise" or "spin counter clockwide" when ending a stroke. The funny part is most of today's youth can't read a clock with a face - only digital clocks!!
Hey, That’s great Gene, it can really help to talk like your teaching someone how to do each stroke like I’m doing in the videos. It keeps us focused and wanting to make each stroke as perfect as possible. Keep going! 👍😀
davidographicsguy Im from england, and my late grandfather was a signwriter all his working life. Ive still got & use his old brushes even though im quite a novice, only been practicing for the last 18 months. Very helpful “realtime” tutorial 👍
davidographicsguy Unfortunately no photos of him actually working,as back then it was just a normal everyday job. He did used to say that when he retired in the early 1980s he was lucky because modern graphics & vinyl was starting to become more popular over traditional sign writing
Yes. I was going to try to hold out as a painted signs only company but it would not have been possible to make a living. Any photos of your grandfather’s work?
Hey David, thank you for the tutorial. Im very new to hand lettering, and I cannot find out how to keep my brush chiseled and flat like yours while lettering. After 2 or so strokes it gets really rounded and the tip isn't flat anymore so it's impossible to do the thin bits of the letters. I'm using a von dago #4 liner, which was highly recommended, so I don't think it's the brushes fault. I just have no idea how to keep it so flat without it rounding out. I've been using by fingers (gloved because the 1 shot is nasty) to flatten it by hand every few strokes, but that doesn't seem right. Do you have any tips? Thanks.
Hey Joe, It’s so awesome that you’re lettering. The liners are mostly used making long lines and sometimes outlining, that’s why they keep a round shape. Try these lettering brushes, you will love them. Keep up the the great work! stevekafka.com/products/kwill
Yes, happens to 100% of us. Go easy on yourself. Keep working on the strokes that need tightening and celebrate every awesome stroke. Do each stroke talking out loud like you’re teaching someone.
Looks like on the basic stroke, after you make contact with the baseline, you continue to turn counter-clockwise until the chisel edge is 90°, perpendicular to the baseline, then go back clockwise. Is that how you know approximately when to switch back for the tail?
hello David! Thank you for your great tutorials! Could you please recommend any of the cheaper brushes to use, perhaps some synthetic ones? Unfortunately I cannot afford the Kafka one you recommending below at the moment :-(
@@davidographicsguy Hey David! thanks for this tutorial, i'm searching everywhere for this alphabet for practice. Is it possible that I could get a copy?
