Great instructional video of very old school technique Mike, I would love to see you try some of my lettering brushes that are sold by A.S. Handover. (,very proud of that fact) and yes beautiful mustaches are the norm....
More of this please. I found it was good honest advertising, and very informative instruction. If I was in the UK, I'd be paying you guys a visit for sure!
Mike I’m working on a really kool hand cleaner for the trade that easily removes lettering enamel residue from your fingernails, I always hated being mistaken for a mechanic at Resturaunt, and had to explain that “ I’m an Artist”
I use the font system on an Apple Mac, print it out and blow it up to the stencil size required on an epidiascope. The letters are perfect scale for anything from a transit door to a 42ft. tautliner...using modern equipment with traditional skills...keep it interesting and the job gets done quicker.
Thanks for this! I use chalk markers on the back of my drawings to get the same effect when transferring the image. The chalk markers are a bit neater to work with.
What kind of lettering paint should we use on a primered vintage truck? Its not painted, just red polished primer with a 2500 grid sand paper. Like your work very much! Thanks for sharing!!!
Hiya, that was one of our 2112 series sable chisel edged lettering brushes. You can find them here: www.handover.co.uk/handover-sable-chisel-writer-brushes :D :D Thanks!
Thanks, fancy lettering is something I'm incorporating in my paintings on canvass and panels... Is Nick Garrett is your real name? Reason I ask, it's very close to my Christian birth name which is Andrew Nick Garrett.

i loved the video tutorial!! I have a little question....I have seen that for gold leaf some people use enamel paint?? Would the white enamel from 1 shot brand work as a gilding size if i wanna use gold leaf (for lettering) well in my case i cant afford to buy the real gold leaf ones. But how effective would the enamel be as a glue? THanks in advance.
Now end June 2020, must be about time for Episode 2.

This is very well done video. What are you using to thin the 1shot? Thanks
Paint thinner {which is 100% mineral spirits but cheaper] For good work use 1-Shot reducers.
How would you transfer the image to glass?

What kind of paintbrush is used to get long fine lines when lettering?
It's called a liner or rigger. A little longer than a normal writing chisel brush.
Thanks, fancy lettering is something I'm incorporating in my paintings on canvass and panels... Is Nick Garrett is your real name? Reason I ask, it's very close to my Christian birth name which is Andrew Nick Garrett.
