Your still helping me on my powerstrokes to this day Ron! Thank you! God bless you family. 🙏🏻R.I.P Ron🙏🏻
Thank for leaving up Ron's guides and sharing with the rest of the world your great dad!
Ron will live forever here. Even though these are repair videos I'm sure his family is greatful for all these videos of him out there
I wouldn't be in my old 'dude' without this fine man's thorough instruction on these 7.3's. I think of Ron every time I start er' up. RIP Ron and God Bless your family.
Thanks for everything, Ron. RIP
DieselTechRon, I can't thank you enough for this video. It was exactly what was srong with my Truck. I was able to put in the new o-rings myself and saved me several hundred dollars. I appreciate the time and effort it takes to do these videos. Thank you for passing on your knowledge to the rest of us.
Thank you. No timing of the pumps on the 60 or 7.3. A few issues with the first 6.7s but its been very good overall. Just a few radiators for us.
God bless good men like Ron🙏gone but never forgotten.
Excellent video. First time that a video didn't piss me off with long intro or a whole bunch of useless information. Thank you very much sir!
Ron, I'm knee deep in my 2003 e450, 7.3l right now. Thank you for the guidance. RIP.
I discovered a leak from my weep hole in the cover under the flywheel. All indications were that it was the rear main seal. I bought the seal, prepared to remove the transfer case, auto trans, etc. and found that I needed a special tool to install the new seal. That's when I started looking at UA-cam to see if I could install it without spending $350 or more for the special tool. I found your video that led me to find that the hpop seals would give the same symptom. This was my problem. Thank you so much for the video. As with many others, it save me a lot of money and aggravation doing something that wouldn't have corrected the problem. Thank you very much.
Don
Might sound like a silly question, but what color was the fluid that you had coming out the hole in the flywheel cover? The fluid coming out of mine is clear and oily like power steering fluid. I wonder if the above video is what is wrong with my rig.
@@steventorres7762 Yours is most likely diesel fuel. When the water drain petcock (in the fuel filter housing) goes bad, it will leak in the valley on tap of the engine, and drain in the same place (cover on the front of the transmission). I've replaced mine 2 times in 20 years. It usually leaks in the winter, at start up, when temps are below freezing.
Legend of the diesel community.
You rock diesel tech Ron I have watched your videos and have been able to save thousands on repairs. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.. keep it up ,my truck is always needing something.
I like this guy. Plain spoken and down to earth. Easy to understand. Well done.
Your family been very blessed Whit your great example.youll be remembered forever.
My truck is in the shop now having injectors replaced and turbo replaced. I also ask the garage to look at rear main seal. I will have to call him and tell him about this video. Great job Ron cant wait to see more of your videos.
The M12 has been one of my best garage investments, Thank You to all your family!
This was the first video I watched of Ron's. At first I thought who is this clown working in his back yard but wearing a mechanics shirt? Over time I have come to respect and admire this guy for contributions to guys like me in the powerstroke community.
"I made a few mistakes and some I like so well I did them a few more times!"
RIP DieselTechRon!
Yup picked up the 1/4 cordless ,use it everyday.Great tool!
Rest in peace, Ron. His vids helped me a lot with my 7.3's oiling system. I sold my 7.3 and bought a new 6.7. It would be nice to have him around to give me some tips and tricks on the 6.7.
I found your video very helpful. I found that it is possible to use a $5 non-digital caliper in place of the special tool. I used mine in an attempt to determine the opening needed to make my own tool (leak was bad and I didn't want to wait for one to be shipped). Anyway, when I got it into position, I just twisted it a little and pulled and the line came right off. Saved the money and I already had the tool in my box. Though this might help someone else.
Phil Birkey THANKS! GREAT TIP! I made a tool, which was kinda time consuming, but lost it. Will go to H.Freight and pickup a caliper.
He’s the reason I bought that electric ratchet, one of the best tools I’ve ever owned.
I don't do trans at all and most people would need to know the codes before guessing. The only time we see multiple wheel bearing failures is from offset or deep dish rims causing stress. On your a/c guessing its more rpm related. With high miles or wear the gap becomes to great to keep it engaged. Undo the bolt on the front of the compressor. Try removing the washer/shim and see if that helps. (Note that washer is available in different thickness if needed.)
Hi Ron, I'm with Dan. I have a 2001 7.3 and bought the Scan Gauge 2 per your recommendation, the realized all vids for that tool are for the 6.0. Thanks for all the great instruction and I wish you lots of success when you open tour own shop.
This guy is super awesome he’s a credit to tradesman all of us tradesman should share our trade before they die
What a class act … thanks Ron … in our hearts
Ron I saw you use the Milwaukee ratchet a few years ago. I got the 1/4 Milwaukee ratchet great tool. thank you
You should clean it real good. We clean them with the engine running to flush out the bell housing. The back of the pump can leak or the cap on back of the pump also has the same oring that fails. Or there is another hex head item on the lower front of the drivers side that leaks. I do not have a video on that but I will watch for one and make it. Thank you
Hi Fernando. We need to know what is missing. The most common is the cam sensor, (rpm signal). Then the ipr valve. No or low icp readings, like 200) and next the high pressure pump.(icp reaches 300-500 with the ipr commanded to 65%) If you could test for codes that will help or let us know if you have at least 500 psi of icp or injection pressure once it becomes a no start. Also the fuel tank being restricted. The pick up screens get plugged and once the pieces settle then it runs again.
Hey Ron, Good Stuff. You nailed it on the oil leak. You also helped me out other times on Ford issues. Thanks. Bye the way. I`ve worked for G.M. dealers as a tech for 23 yrs. Left the dealer and work from home now. Seems that Fords are most of what i found myself to be working on. LOL. Ever got a G.M. issue give a holler. Thanks again. Todd
I don't unplug any. Depending on the year and options some are tight but with the right tool its not bad at all.
You are awesome Ron! My mechanic just said we have a bad rear main seal... I'm checking these orings tomorrow.
thanks for this video my HPOP was leaking at the o-ring under the fuel bowl, with ahead and change o-rings on the fuel lines too. running like a champ...
rest in peace legend...
Excellent series of videos Ron! Well done and vey informative. Just bought my second 7.3 that doesn't start due to oil draining from the hpop reservoir internally. It runs for a short time when filled through the little hole. Going to watch all your vids again to solve this! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge !
RIP Ron you will be missed by all your powerstroke brothers and sisters.
Fantastic vid, 288k and My rig dies and I suspect catastrophic leak at these fittings. This vid has helped eas my mind a great deal. ONE point... thewe was a gust of wind right at the point where you said what type of O ring you use and I could not hear (suppose I should read down to check!)
Thanks for a great video. I had the natural aspirated down pretty good but w/. zero failures... and NO tech help other than the $400 book at the time... i have never gotten into the PS.... that's 16 years!
Thank You..I have a 1999 also..and the dealer is constantly changing the HPOP Lines, the front hub assemblies (4x4) Every six months..it's way to expensive,, The Problems I am having now are the A/C works in park..put it into gear and it goes to hot..pull over put it in neutral lift the hood and take a metal rod to the front of the clutch on the compressor and it releases the magnet and cools..until I put it in gear again..(WT hahaha) the other is a bit more difficult..
Thank you Ron I too have HP Oring failure and your video helped me Find the tools to fix it.
Thanks Ron! Your video helped me to replace the O-rings on the used 2000 model I recently bought.
RIP Ron I miss You Man.
I pressure wash them all day long with no issues UNLESS the seal is missing from the connectors. ESP icp and ebp.
Just wanted to say thanks- your video was very helpful and made the job a lot easier tthen it had seemed to be when I found the lines leaking. Yes it could look like a rear main seal if you do not research that leak to its origin
Thanks from beyond the plain man!
If you are going to undertake this repair, get yourself a 3/4 and 11/16 stubby wrench and a crows foot in each size as well. Your sanity will thank you!!
Thank you Ron! Have you ever seen those high pressure lines go bad? With that type of pressure I was just wondering how long they last. Thanks again for the great vids
I did this fix about 10 years ago to my 2001. There is a Ford Service bulletin out on this and a repair kit. $50 at the time I did it. It came with O rings made out of a different material and a small tube of thread lock. When these fail oil comes out very fast and in large quantities. Hard to find source of leak since it sprays oil everywhere.
RIP some great videos.
damn those wire connections came out so easy
Awesome video. Thank you for showing me how to fix that. I've gon through two starters because of my fuel leaking onto them.
22 howard, my 96 250 7.3 powerstroke just blew the top high pressure line at 363,302, a lot of fuel was discharged , they say the pressure is right at 3,000 psi the line was really cracked at where it bends, I live in AZ so it's kinda hot here average 115-117 when I lived in Yuma
I just love these videos. So informative!
Yes Thank You God Bless You I Lean SOMETHING Every Time RIP 🙏
Has Mr.Ron ,, passed away?,,I saw a (RIP) Comment???..,,,great video ☆
Just watched for first time, "I love my2002,f350 straight trk,, 7.3,",
He was in a car accident I think a few years back .. hes def buy far one of the top powerstroke techs in the country next to bill Hewitt in Georgia
Hi thanks for the videos.
So no issues with pressure washing the motor. I hear so many bad things about that, I've got a 450k mile powerstroke motor that could use a bath :)
Thanks for the video! Very helpful, I'm tracing down a puddle of oil in my valley and wonder if this might be my issue...
omg !! i have a 2002 e350 and doing this job right now, VERY very tight area to work in .
You are a Blessing...
At the beginning you say its a fuel leak but the video is labeled oil leak ???
Ron..u saven my butt..rip good man
Thanks for the video! Had my mechanic do this job and now my 03/7.3 turns off most of the time when I put it on reverse, any thoughts on why?
How strange.... What was it?
I like how the wind noise distorted the type and name of the O-Ring you recommend. Because I wasn't able to identify it.
:-)
+Doug Hanchard
He said an "AC oring". A Green AC o-ring is Highly Saturated Nitrile (also known as Hydrogenated Nitrile) and are commonly referred to as HNBR or, in some cases, HSN
would you do a video on the 7.3l powerstroke showing how to monitior the scan gauge 2 for no starts and what numbers to look for like you did with the newer trucks thank you
Hey Ron, Thanks for the Video!!!
Why can't you just remove the discharge fitting with an open-end wrench without disconnecting the hose? It appears to spin freely.Forget the torque wrench with this method. FYI: Torque to 25lbf-ft.
I realize this is an old comment but for anyone new wondering the same thing... there is no chance in hell you'll be able to reach them with a wrench that large, and by some miracle you do, you sure as hell aren't going to be able to turn it.
Hi Ron, Thanks for all the great videos,
I need to replace my r side high pressure line, does all the electrical sensors really need to be disconnected to do this ? thank you
Did you or whoever has tried to fill your shoes, have to empty the HPOP before you separated the oil lines?
Thanks for making these video's, Need some more help. Replaced the O-Rings on the high pressure lines. Started the truck (2001 Ford F 250 7.3 4 X 4) nothing popped off. Drove the truck and it is still leaking under the truck. Looks like the remain seal. I didn't replace the other O-ring on the HPOP. How do remove the HPOP? Do you have a video on it? Thanks Shawn
Hi Ron ive been watching your videos lately since I was doing an oil leak on the HPOP on my 2003 7.3 and I have a some questions about why my truck has absolutely no power what's ever after I did the oil leak. I have a TS performance chip and I was taking it off to see if maybe it will fix the problem but now it won't start either, I'm guessing the PCM is fried? I need some help.
Snap on? Matco? cmon man I'm on a Pittsburgh budget!
Duralast :)
Well, I ordered the M12 kit from Northern Tool, and they shipped out shit batteries and charger. That's right DOA, charger lights up like green/red flashing Christmas tree. CS at Northern Tool hung up on me when they found out I was sending it ALL back!!! Turned out it's Made In China POS. $208 for the kit + extra 2.0 Ah battery. Ripped.
What's it under? The mobile ap does not provide a link.
Still does the same thing. Search youtube for "7.3 powerstroke smokes, loads up. Help. " video shows what it does. Any help would be great fully appreciated .
Great video. Thank you.
Thanks for this really helpful video. Where can I buy the rings?
The next Problem I have is I have lost second in Automatic.. I have it in Manual so put it in drive 1st enguages second I have to shift in manually then back to drive for third fourth..and overdrive. Help..I think it's the solenoid pack but I figure you'd have tackled it before so I'll ask you first
My respects rip ron
Hey Diesel Tech Ron, What do you suggest about removing the high pressure hose when the rubber portion dry rotted and fell off? This is the rubber portion that you slip the speciality tool between. Ugggh
hi i really liked you video i have a question i have a E450 disel 7.3 ingine and i have a problem with it when i started it after 20 minutes my truck shot off and does not turn on again i have to wait like 6 hrs and i already replaced air filter fuel filter change oil put new batteries what could it be and i will like to fixed it my self because here at mexico mechanics reap you off can you tell me please what to do thank you and God bless you for you time showing what you know
Yeah I have an OBS powerstroke 1996 7-3 and I've got oil passing out the exhaust
probably the terbski. you can rebuild them for cheap. unless it has so much play that it ate the turbo rotating assembly and/or housings up...they do get hungry if not maintained lol
check the cold side. pull the inlet hose and see if you can move the shaft from side to side, and in and out. if you see alot of oil and or excessive wear on the compressor wheel shes toast.
id hit some forums up on the rebuild and how to modify it for your particular use and mods. there are 3 different turbine housing a/r's for this turbo, and a the stock 60/80mm compressor can be upgraded to a 66/88.
great insructional...thanks for sharing your time and experiance
Does it have to be a semi deep swivel socket? I want to do the job myself but all I got is standard swivel deep sockets.
do you gotta time to high pressure pump on the 6.0 or 7.3? i would assume no but your the expert not me, and what issues have u seen with the 6.7? ive heard glow plug tips falling or exaust valve's. that and the 6.7 is like the 6.4 alot fo stuff to remove
Can the valley or bell housing hold that much oil to make it appear to be a rear main leak?...I had to add 5 qt's to engine, I have great oil pressure. I haven't washed yet because I can't take to car wash.
Hello, I own a Kia Cerato 1.6 crdi 136 HP vehicle. My car is at 86,000 km. Diesel is mixed with the engine oil, the oil level is constantly rising. There is no problem in the operation of my vehicle, the idle is normal, there is no noticeable black or white smoke from the exhaust. It works immediately with a single start in the morning, there is no problem. The technician said it could be the DPF and he removed the DPF and cleaned it in the machine. The DPF was around 40% full, but it was still cleaned. But that was not the solution either. Engine oil level continues to rise in my vehicle. I think there is no problem with diesel injectors because there is no indication of injector failure. The vehicle engine has a timing chain. Could it be from the high pressure diesel pump seal? Or what could be the problem? Could you help? Urgent. Thanks in advance
why would the charge air cooler tubes have oil collect on them??
Had a problem with a high pressure oil pump on a 2002 E350, had the mechanic work on it and said the pump had to be change. I had him do the work however I have had problem with fuel leaking from the pump he repair the problem but this is the 3rd time, Its leaking again.
One more thing after he fix the leek the second time my truck ideal up and down even when its warm.
Any thoughts on this matter.
Thanks Ron RIP
I know this is off topic, but I have a 2000 f250 7.3 powerstroke turbo, and I was driving it and the motor shut down on me. I've replaced the camshaft sensor which caused it to not to start. I was told there isn't oil lubricating the pistons which causes the motor to shut down. Is there a certain sensor that could've gone back?
hi nice videos thanks I have question I have ford f-550 powestrock 7.3 on the morning the turbo whistle and went I accelerate and when it's loaded liquin oil on driver engine Valve Cover and oil filter and loses power in rises thanks
Ron I'm having a issue with my truck, new to the 7.3 family , how ever it's running a little rough at 35 -40 mph so I to the oil cap off and it's blowing ! And it seems to be leaking at the top driver side vale cover it's that call a ccv and ud thT common ? My truck is blowing a smoke tint out the tail pipe ! Help me pls brother I'm trying to save a little money ! I've just started a transporting business and I'm already having issues .
Is there an oil return system for the blow off valve from the turbo by any chance? the guys at the shop when fixing the suspension shims decided to floor it around town when they had it, therefore blowing all my oil out that valve leaving me stranded when I got it back. 2001 7.3. already had the hpop O-ring go on me. When it downshifts going up grades I get heart burn since the oil blow off occurs at over 2300+rpm. Any ideas?
RIP Ron.
I have a '99 7.3. Was driving down the road and all the sudden oil is spewing out and of course it looses power and stops. Could it be one of these oil lines came out our is there any other lines/areas this could happen?
What was the name of the alternate o ring you mentioned and where do I buy them? Thanks
What parts did you take off to get a wrench on the fitting
Can you do it without the special tool?
can you remove fuel pump without taking turbo off on 1997 7.3
I have a front main leaking. Is there a video for that? 2003 f250. 7.3
عندي سباره فورد نفس المكينه تشتغل عشر دقايق وتطفى والحين بطلت تشتغل ايش المشكله فيها
Mine leaks after the dealer replaced the hpop, since then i took it back 3 times but they can't find the leak, it's pisses me off that they keep wasting my time
I am doing ok
