@@detectiveshadow4171 Execution might've been poor but the concept absolutely holds up. Mega evolution at least builds on major mechanics of the Pokémon franchise, that being evolution, while Z-moves and Dynamaxing come out of nowhere and relate to nothing previously built. Had they held on to Mega's and made some changes to how it functions I'm sure it would've been a very strong addition to the Pokémon battling system. After all, some staples in the series like abilities, held items, double battles, etc. all began as gimmicks but became massive contributors in making Pokémon gameplay much more nuanced.

Here is a simple solution to these problems. Only introduce new mega Pokémon in remakes. That way a bunch of Pokémon from that specific region get mega evolution. This makes the process of introducing new mega Pokémon slower, so they don’t run out of cool Pokémon. You don’t even need to have the rest of the mega evolutions in the game, just have the new ones.

      @Andrewtr6 3 роки тому +19

I like this idea but there are problems that I'll get to. I think only 10 new megas should be introduced each remake- would be enough for the last gym leader (optional), elite four, champion, and evil team leader to all have a respective mega. If they did this in Sinnoh, Volkner's Luxray could get a mega (I know it doesn't need one but it could look so cool!), Aaron could use a mega Heracross or his Drapion could get a mega, Mega Golem for Bertha or Hippodon to keep it as a pokemon from that region, Infernape for Flint, Lucian could use a mega Alakazam/ Medicham or Bronzong could get a mega. Obviously, Cynthia has to use Mega Garchomp. I know people are against popular pokemon getting megas but if you add megas to a remake, the ace pokemon of those characters should get a mega. Also, both Kanto and Hoenn starters got megas so, Sinnoh should too. Now, the problems I was talking about is players would want to use these megas in other games or use past megas in them.

But I do think that weaker three stage mons should get higher priority for the mega treatment if it ever returns in the future with new ones with the only reason to ever give it to two or single stage mons in particular is if their base has abilities that combo with the mega like how Sableye and Sharpedo were handled.

The reason mega evolution stopped is simply because Game Freak finds it too difficult, which is the exact reason I love it.
Megaevolutions are easily my favorite mechanic added into a pokemon game period, if they had simply streamlined the mechanic with getting one stone to mega evolve instead of one for each, of maybe making it a level requirement before you can use it, some kind of balance, it would've been the best new feature, but they just didn't wanna bother.

In terms of the balancing, I agree the ones who didn't need the boost shouldn't return. (At least to the meta). Megas would bring a lot more diversity if they kept them localized to low bst pokemon. As it adds more pokemon with similar bst to higher teired pokes. If they revisit it, they should make adjustments for that. (Such as banning more of the mega stones for the pokemon that become over powered with them). In terms of creative design choice, since terrestrializing is a thing, and feels like a diet z move. My favorite battle mechanic is the megas still. It felt the most creative an interesting, while the following gimmicks felt more and more stale with each generation.

I definitely think megas would be the choice over dynamaxing so ofc they removed it for that reason I'm sure but as for the 2nd one mmmm that's a possibility however they need to explain that in either sequels or gen 9 if dynamaxing still becomes relevant to explain another universe called the dynamax universe where the weapon nvr fired but a different occurence happened causing the dynamax phenomenon (ofc it all connects to eternatus anyway so u know)

    • @pango4425

The main reason Megas made the game worse was not that the power boost was large, but more so that they were primarily given to already good pokemon who didn't need them (like legends and pseudos). Most of the pokemon who did who actually got them still weren't that competitive because of the loss of a held item and that base speed is used for turn order before transforming.

I think what sets Megas apart from other battle mechanics is how unique they all are. Each Mega is sort of like its own character, with updated stat spreads, character designs, abilities, height/weight differences, etc. They're more like brand new Pokemon than just another gimmick. As a game modder I don't agree with this whole section at all and believe it comes down to a lack of creativity.
Firstly, there doesn't NEED to be so many Mega Stones. A new game that introduces a single Mega Stone that works on everyting will do the trick and you can even base the story around it's discovery (maybe near the source of AZ's weapon) and it would make NPC's that have it feel like special trainers and add weight to their titles or skills.
Secondly, even if we kept all those stones, there's a ton of ways they could distribute them other than a scavenger hunt. They could be rewarded to the player in scripted story events or as gym rewards in addition to the badges. You could take them away from the main villian grunts who are using them for evil after you beat them, you can get them from a character that mines them and you run into and help them alot in the story etc.
Thirdly, putting them into a shop and locking it to a special mode is DUMB, but if you're going to do it they don't HAVE to be so damn expensive... Changing item prices isn't hard, nor is coming up with an excuse for their affordability which you also don't actually need to explain in the first place.
Tbh, I think the Pokemon Devs are taking Pokemon a bit too seriously and are creatively standing in their own way. They created a juggernaut of a series that evolved beyond their intentions and now they're afraid to treat it like a game because of the fanbase and are losing the creative spark that made it work in the first place. IMO

maybe Mega Evolution could return one day, maybe instead of hunting or grinding, it's instead a Mega Dojo where you choose then face trainers who specialize in a type with a corresponding mega to earn the mega stone of the mega you fought. With this you both see and experience the mega and you don't have to grind (unless you can't beat it) or hunt (assuming the dojo isn't something like being multiple buildings across the region) allowing a quick and easy way to acquire all of them though how to get the challenges, daily change with rng on which one you grab or pay to challenge though tickets could be used to waiver the fee which can be acquired in other ways like the regions lottery system, either way if they decide to add mega's post launch they could be easily put in as new challenges assuming Game Freak even wants to design new ones

For some reason I never put it together that regional forms basically replaced megas as a better way to make new versions of old pokemon. That makes a lot of sense and it makes the loss of megas sting slightly less. I still love megas but the metastone system would be a pain to update for every gen and honestly I prefer new designs you can use all the time rather than new designs that are battle specific.

Personally Megas have been a take it or leave it kind of thing for me, I didn’t really care that it got cut. Maybe I’d care more if it was just for weaker Pokémon that gained viability from it, like Lopunny, instead of powerhouses like Garchomp getting it too.
Personally I liked the flexibility of Dynamax and Zmoves and the cinematics of ZMoves more than the power boos and design change of Megas. The Max Raids are fun and the Eternamax Eternatus Battle felt like an epic battle, too bad we can’t GMax Eternatus.
Regional variants are the absolute best though, especially since it gives new life to Pokémon. I wouldn’t have used Zigzagoon if it wasn’t for Obstagoon. Alolan Raichu is more appealing than classic Raichu. I just wish there was a way to evolve them since we can breed variants outside Ethelred regions

Ngl, if they really wanted to make mega stones easier to use, simply make 16 mega stones, one for each type. Make it so only the stone of the corresponding Pokémon’s primary type would work, so only one stone works for each Pokémon. This would limit stuff like, two dragons capable of mega evolving in competitive, but also would mean megas can be expanded to almost every Pokémon, if that route was taken. The only other idea I have would be making it work like gigantamax, where only specific Pokémon of a species can do it, and they don’t require a held item. To balance this, the Pokémon’s held item would lose its effect when Mega evolution occurs. This way, only the mega ring and the evolutions themselves would have to be coded, and the mega rework could attract new players. If this didn’t work, a combination of the two, where there is a single type of mega stone, but multiple can be found or purchased around the region, and if a Pokémon capable of mega evolution held it, they could mega evolve. Of course, this would interact weirdly with the item clause for competitive, but those three ideas would make it easier to implement.

Honestly, the fact that the anime incorporates all the gimmicks is just salt in the wound. I can understand not introducing new Megas, but why scrap what we have? They could easily remedy getting mega stones (and Z crystals) with secondary currency, like armorite ore. They could also make them cheaper to obtain too. Story-wise, they could always argue that the various gimmicks don’t mix due to the environment that causes dynamax and gigantimax to occur. So, only certain parts of the region or conditions can allow them to be used at various times. No overpowering or anything like that. Finally, the programming aspect. DLC content was brought in to address (or exploit) things like this. Not enough time or room to put them in the core of the game? Fine. Put them in a post-game dlc and let people have them. People would pay for the features, despite being disgruntled about it. Also, the gimmick of he series can get its time to shine and then people can access features that they liked before.

I think Megas work well in spin-offs way better than in main line titles. G-Max is basically a hybrid of Megas and Z-Moves that (in my opinion) are more balanced.

@@THGMR-ox7sd to me its the kinda the middle ground between the other 2. Megas were OP because they were always Mega, Giga is only 3 turns. Z-Moves could be instant win buttons, but other times they could be useless, but Max moves can be used 3 times. So to me we get the benefits of Megas (new forms and a buff) and made a better version of Z-Moves.
Gigantamax and Dynamax aren't perfect, but to me its a step in the right direction

Mega evolution is still the coolest “gimmick” in Pokémon. The Z-Crystal I think are the best overall. Dynamax/Gigamax are the most broken other than being limited to when you can use it there are no downsides since it doesn’t take up an item slot while have a lot the same benefits of Z Moves and Mega Evolution

5:35. They could have fixed that by having a regional mining fanatic that digs up mega stones. As you upgrade “whatever” he digs up and finds even more mega stones. They could have kept them going but they chose not to.
Such a shame how 46 Pokemon received mega evolutions but no more until the far future.
Absolute shame. They could have tied in Z-moves with mega evolutions so the poke gets the Z move when they mega evolve.
Pretty much the only reason I bought gen 6 was for megas.
