My theory is that TM2 just hits closer to home for the people that simply grew up with it. At the time there was nothing quite like it on the ps1 or any other console for that matter. I'd like to think of TM2 as a VERY unpolished diamond of a game. I also think that those that played TM2 way back grew to like the unforgiving difficulty and clunky physics, things that TM black improved upon.
TM2 wasn't a childhood game, but because I play old videogames all the time, I was able to get used fairly quickly. It is a punishing game? Yes, definitely. But the game also gives tools to punish the AI opponents back
I don't remember AI so spamming. It's probably hard difficulty or another mod or cheat code. I mean dude in ironic way but still liyng about fun so you can't trust so biased guys. But if this spamming happens on normal game with normal difficulty it's really hard and bad.
@@PAINNN666 The spamming happen regularly. Some AI enemies like Mr.Slam spam the freeze missile, others like Warthog and Sweet Tooth spam their special. The point is, you have to be careful or otherwise you will expose yourself to frustrating situations (situations like 09:43 and 12:10 could have been avoided)
i still find TM2 the best of the bunch. feels like the true essence of TM. I think TM2 offers a real challenge but can also be cheesed. the controls are def a bit sloppy but I think that adds to the feel of driving a car that is slowly being torn apart.
TM2 is my favorite game, but not my favorite to play for all the reasons you have said. Such a great game at the time. About the lives not resetting between levels, I remember hearing somewhere that it was a technical limitation (memory maybe?) they couldn't do it.

While it's certainly more consistent than TM2, I can recall plenty of times in Black where I went for a shield or freeze (especially shield) and it didn't come out. Rear fire tends to not work for me as well. TBF with the shield it's difficult to determine whether or not you have the exact amount of energy necessary for one, so maybe I'm just trying to do shields when my energy is slightly too low for them.
Axel to me was a boss in every level lol He has one of the best strategies ever for a game this old. He is also what drove me to get good at the game. Love Twisted metal..sad they let this game die..
60 FPS looks absolutely amazing on this game! I've never seen that before, and looks like it would make it easier, including aiming. Glad to see you find a way to do this well. Recommendations that help me do well is to always remember to not forget the brakes, hand brake for quick turning, and using small bursts of turbo forward, or especially backwards for instant top speed to dodge out of harm. If it were at all possible, having a talk about Twisted Metal, and even help or tips for you on this game would be awesome.

12:10 Remember dear Drew Dessadoo, that Axel's has the biggest ram damage (excluding the boss characters) Combined with his special that is the reason why you ended up losing so much health. I suggest you try to stay away from him, unless you have a way to punishing back, like for example: using ricochet bombs to push him and you can combine that with other attacks i.e: power missiles, this same strategy you can apply it against Twister so you can avoid a death like the one at Moscow 09:43

Yeah, I don’t know what it is, but the inputs are super consistent for me on every game except TM2. The 60fps patch does help, but I still get screwed by my shield not working lol.

Dude I remember even as a kid, I preferred TM1’s physics over TM2’s. TM2 always felt too bouncy and floaty to me, still played the hell out of it with my brother.
Watching the Thumper gameplay, no youre 100% on point about this games physics, it doesnt look fun to play based on how much you bounce around and learn hard into your turns like you do

This game is ass. Anyone who praises it as a good game is insane. The physics are unbearable and the unlimited energy and specials isn't good difficulty design at all. The only good thing about it is the soundtrack but there's a limit to how far the OST can carry a game. There are a few memorable stages, but the bad stages are excessively bad.

Great vid :). I counted two diff sets of freeze spam by Roadkill (on NY it was 5 or 6) and Mr. Slam (It was 5). RIDICULOUS!
Roadkill ruined my playthrough for sure. Dude is a sneaky menace. At least Slam is up front about his BS lol.

I kinda play this like black. Collect hella weapons and cheese the enemies. I like to get 6 to 10 remotes for level 2 so I can shield mine them all

Why would your jump be up up left and not just one of the buttons?
The devs decided that three buttons makes sense for a basic movement ability. At least every game after Black made the change to the shoulder buttons.
