I followed 50% of Ornlu’s strategy here. I built walls around my city, constructed two castles near the wonder & just abandoned my allies. Like Ornlu said, they are 123% dead. During my couple of first tries in the game I tried to save orange by building a castle at their base but the red attacks so damn fast that i didn’t have time to churn out enough troops to defeat them. My starting troops also got killed by fighting them. They were constantly non-stop attacking orange. It was quite impossible to save them & in the end I was like f*ck it, let me just focus on winning this. Up until the wonder gets down to 80 years all seems fine, but then purple starts to spam siege rams, onagers, trebuchets & jaguar warriors (despite being Inca). I could barely hold on to their attack waves. Just as they have almost destroyed my castles I suddenly won as the wonder timer finished. During that ending period I had no resources (enemy killed my villagers), no troops & was just holding on. Thank god, I just won narrowly. 😅
So I’ve never played a strategy game in my life and when my friend said you can play as Inca in this game called Age of Empires II, I bought it and now I’ve been up for 20 hours trying to figure out how to not be bad.

One of the hardest campaign scenarios, right up there with dracula 3. I recommend playing on slow speed instead of normal speed and saving often. The idea in this scenario is to take your starting villagers and wall up every shallows south of cuzco with double-walls and no gates except ONE ideally center south, and another one in front of the river that bisects cuzco. Also wall up the bridge at the western part of the map. Then assign some villagers to mine the stone in western cuzco and research stone mining tech, while that is happening, grab ALL your troops that are scattered around the city except for the 3 heroes who you should ideally garrison somewhere, and then use this army as a mobile strike force against the battering rams. Buy stone from the market and quickly construct at least 1 castle near the blue wonder that is being built. Start creating more villagers and assign them to gather food, as you seem to have a wood surplus. Then build a university and research fortified wall and create 2 more castles, one near each of the other shallows in southern cuzco and then research masonry and the fletching and bodkin arrow techs to boost your castles' range. Advance to Imperial Age, by this time you will have to start churning out more troops from the barracks and archery ranges and those troops need better blacksmith techs compared to your converted starting army whose stats couldnt be improved anyway. Build a temple, recruit 4 monks as a mobile healing station, research herbal medicine so that you can load up injured troops in one of your castles for quick healing too. And keep one or two villagers near the walled off shallows for repairs. All you need to do is survive for one in-game hour, which on slow speed is one real life hour.
@@BlobBlobkins the good thing you started with the shittiest campaign, inca/maya arent fun AT ALL, i found them cool as a kids because of the jungle style, but oh man the scenario and map ARE FUCKING HELL, anyway next you have all the cool one left, good choice
Kinda hard to get the achievement on this one, but I managed after several tries. I built a Castle in Orange's base and brought most of my starting army there; it eventually collapsed and the troops died but this play bought me quite a bit of time to boom. I made a Mangonel and attacked ground near the builders to kill one to buy quite a lot of time as well (the attacks ramp up when the Wonder is complete, so if you delay its construction...). Once I had a good eco, I made several Castles filled with Arbalesters near the Wonder to slaughter anything besides Rams/Trebs that get too close, although if your Castles are full they can kill even Siege Rams in a few volleys. Heavy Scorpions are quite good here against everything except Eagles and siege and your Champions can mop these up easily.
Same, built 2 castles right next to orange TC, 5 barracks to spam champions, red and purple kept attacking but was able to defend. Orange is worth saving. You can build trade carts and get gold from them.
If you change the diplomacy status of blue to "neutral" you can convert one of the builders at the Wonder and having one extra peasant to your booming ;)
@@BJ-hm8xk ornlu never trades so this would go unnoticed by him sadly. So many times he wouldn't have gold issues if he did. Why else do you get allies in campaign? It's either to distract the enemy or trade. Often both.
Why is that massive purple army of 10 Siege Rams, 6 Onagers and 10-15 Kamayuks crossing the bridge in 34:35, still stuck a little below from the center of the map? It can be seen in the map 40:50 onwards, where he is showing everything across the map except that army. They never made it to his base, thereby making him easier to defend the wonder! Although he defended really well, he mostly won because of that gameplay glitch :P
While I think you are right, it is often that way vs AI tbh. AI can't handle certain player behaviour. Normally I love defending missions, but this one felt cool in principle, but SO random.. played it 4 times until I beat it, they attacked very different in each game. I wish it would be more lotr-like. Let them attack from every direction, but managable and ramp up difficulty by increasing their army. After all, it feels really anticlimactic if your task is to defend and you win because Ai takes too long to take down walls they could bypass or something. I want to add that I do not think Ornlu cheesed something on purpose.
This scenario was a huge pain until I built a military base around Orange and destroyed the trebs and rams before they could get anywhere near the temple of Sun.
Walling off chokepoints with Towers/Castles and using Mangonels against Rams makes this scenario a straightforward one for the most part. [Until Trebuchets come into play]
It wasn't that bad when I did fall back to the river, walled off the entrances save the one in the middle and setup a defence consisting of 3 castles and 5 onagers to catapult mass units and rams. Trebuchets were covered by infantry. Trying to save Orange and Green and/or going for no wall achievement, now that's a completely different story and I won't even bother.
I just got the pitched battle achievement by... quitting. I think it is bugged, so I don't know the details of how it happened. I was following the advice offered here to make a castle at one of the allies and quit the game to do some personal business. When I closed AOE 2 I noticed I had the achievement.
3rd try. If you just survive the like, first 20-25 minutes ish, it gets pretty easy. there's nothing the ai can throw at you at that point that will get past a river crossing defense of 3-4 castles and likes 5ish towers with 50-60 troops, fully upgraded everything. I actually built a town center behind enemy lines in the green base cause they have stone there, had to kill 2 trebuchets with the villagers xD
What worked for me in this scenario was walling off just like Onlu did here, forsaking your allies. (get that stone in orange will they get pummeled). Then spam slingers and onagers. Lock your gates, and smash suh-mash. Onagers will destroy rams easily and slingers will mow down the remaining forces. Keep at least one castle in each attacked chokepoint to kill archers and enemy onagers. If you boom right, you should be able to buy any extra stone you need. For some reason... I didn't get attacked by trebuchets, but you might want to keep some eagles ready for those. I didn't get the achievement, seems they patched it .
I just beat this on hard. I also took 3 tries but I won in the silliest way: I walled the rivers then built layers of stone walls around the wonder and had a castle to the top left of that new giant rectangle square/rectangle structure. Once the castle was overrun I ran the game at 8 speed and they finished off my town centers and original castle. All my soliders died getting Yupanqui out, so I stored him in down the valley past the gate. Then I found one random villager left and put her with him to make wood walls where the gate was broken. Then two trebuchets came from up the hill and I had him single handley destroy them and a scout, then I placed the two of them in some random part of the forest while tons of rams attacked my walls around the wonder. The previous two times I made it to 60 years left for the wonder by hiding up in the valley by covering both entrances with over a dozen stone wall lines, but this time the enemy never used the rams on the wonder even once it was exposed. They just kept destroying the walls. I recorded and uploaded the very end of the mission to show what I mean.
Easy. Move your entire army to Orange TC at the start. Build a castle right away next to it. Boom and defend Orange TC. Spam lots of champions, upgrade tech, and defend your position. Orange survived, didn't even need to build walls.
@@BJ-hm8xk you got no time/enough gold to spam champions, they got tons of battle rams/archers/eagle warriors, anyways, I just finish this campaign yesterday using 4castles with 50 skirmishers and 50 eagle warriors

I think this is the hardest scenario for defense in AOE2DE. It's much beyond the difficulty of Le Loi scenario 2 on hard. At least the latter one has its sure strategy like formula to win, but this one... Nah... Impossible to make any formula. Our too weak units, more like on feudal age, hard to catch up with enemies, too scarce resources thus, and too many siege weapons enemies use in early time, and like you and many others say, just random flow of how enemies attack... No formula.
boom fast, wall in everything but the middle crossing and get those castles up. if you survive the early game and manage to get 2-3 castles on that crossing you basically won
I don't find this scenario as insane as this comment section makes look it be. I made it on hard almost not building any walls. In my opinion you have to defend orange and build a defensive castle in his base at the start, and I prioritized barracks and eagle warriors (lots of eagle warriors), to take down red's rams, the only danger from red, because rest of is army is killed easily by your castle. If you let orange die soon (like in this video), there is nothing left between them and you. Also, if you defend orange, you can mine the stone in his base safely. Eventually, red and purple will overrun you at orange base, but at that point the wonder is almost complete. I built three castles near the wonder and defended without walls, taking down rams and trebuchets with my eagle warriors. I think le loi 1, le loi 2, last saladin and last bari, as defensive scenarios, are infinitely more insane than this.
