Dark time in my life. Army, Viet Nam, Korea... But music like this, weed, wine, a girlfriend now and then, I got through it. Have been with my 2nd wife 16 years. No more drugs or alcohol. Healthy at age 72. Retired from mechanical profession, life turned out OK.
I was 12 when Let iIt Out came out and I loved it. Didn't realise that at the time that they were taking the piss out of Bob Dylan, but that just made it even better. This is the first time I've heard the album and it shows that they weren't mugs . Thx. I did enjoy listening to it.
I am just discovering them from taking a deep dive after hearing an Alex Chilton very cool cover of Boogie Shoes. He started out in the Box Tops, band members were all from Memphis. One band member for the Box Tops had a brother who sang lead for The Hombres, also a Memphis band. In the same week these brothers from 2 different Memphis bands had the #1 and #2 pop song in Chicago "The Letter" and this fun tune. :)
IN 1968 SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL. BUT THE NEXT YEAR I WAS IN SIAGON, PHEN NAM PEN, HUE, CAMBODIA AND A LITTLE IN THAILAND/ BURMA, DOING RECON FOR THE ARMY CORE OF ENGINEERS. REALLY HAIRY AT TIMES………….NAM WAS A WASTE OF TIME. THERE WERE PEOPLE THERE THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN THERE. YOU COULD SEE THE FEAR ON THE FACES THAT WEREN'T GOING TO MAKE IT.

During 20-27 October 1967, "The Letter" and The Hombres' "Let It Out (Let It All Hang Out)" were 1-2 on the WLS (AM) Silver Dollar Survey, marking a rare quinella involving two brothers of the same family (the Cunningham brothers), each in a different top 40 act.
Willem, great info ! are or were you from Chicago ? I remember those silver dollar surveys. I would listen to WLS AM 89 and WCFL AM 1000 top 40 radio on my transistor radio hanging at 12th Street Beach by the Planetarium/ Meigs Field drinking bottom shelf Boone's Farm wine and smokin" low grade weed with an occasional sugar cube. Those were the days my friend. ☮️
@@thomassmith8721 No..... I'm from Amsterdam and I've got this info out of the biography of Alex Chilton "A man called destruction". Well you had your part so to read. lol
I had a Southern Rock compilation tape with this group on it and this song "Let it Out" and trying to understand the lyrics to it and wondering how Southern they were; They were okay but their sound had a lot to be desired.
There's nothing to it but to enjoy it. A lot to be desired .. we're here talking about it 50 years later. What fantastic shit have you done that people will talk about 50 years later
I remember these guys out of Memphis Tn, Let It all hang out was their best song, and on sorry bout that I think Billy Bob Thornton stole the voice and used it in Sling Blade!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but with both B.B. Cunningham and John Hunter deceased, I am under the impression Jerry Masters and Gary Wayne McEwen have resisted the temptation to reform the band with replacement members in an attempt to enter the Bucket List Band club, that are bands you've never seen but want to see before the last surviving original member kicks the bucket.......
