This collection, along with others on UA-cam, make me think about the hundreds, or thousands of aspiring bands that made records that never got heard outside their hometowns, at best. Dreams.

And it makes you *hate* the radios, corporate promoters, and major labels that choose to promote garbage like Madonna, Justin Beiber, Eminem, etc when there is/ was real great music and talent that should have got a shot instead.

Some of the best music ever written in history was probably never heard by anyone but the musician who made it, or at most a small circle of friends.

I was in one of those similar garage bands. We played all over northern Ohio--private clubs, house parties, garages, city pools, junior high schools, high schools... even mental hospitals! No shit. Our moms transported us to the gigs in our family station wagons. We recorded a record. It was a great time! Lots of hard work and big dreams! It was a great time when music and movies drove our culture rather than IT and politics like now.

I was in a garage band during the 1960s in Marianna Florida. This little northern Florida town had more than its share of rock bands during that era. My group was called The Citations. We played the teen clubs at the military bases, school dances, proms and house parties. It was wonderful and I fondly remember the innocent excitement. I still have my 1966 Fender Mustang guitar. Other groups in Marianna included The Bangs, The Lyrics, The Rising Suns, The Dimensions, and The Younger Kind.

*edit:* man, wth with the hate comments... i just like to hear old people's experiences in their lives because i find it interesting. If you insult them or make jokes about them because that makes you feel like a 'cool bad kid' please stop, some people deserve respect; i said 'some', okay? i know not all old people is good, like not every single teenager in this generation is dumb too. if you're young like 13 or 15, idk; nice. The 60s had such a distinct sound..... some of the best, most unique rock I have ever heard was made in this period - and nothing has since come close. As much as I wish I could have been there to experience it in person, I am glad to be able to hear it all from the comfort of my room on a rainy day. Still wish I could go back in time though.

They were the first folk-rock group (pre-dating the Byrds by a few months) and one of the first country-artists (Bradley's Barn, 1968) And to add to that, they had the most Dylan-esque voice in their group, Sal Valentino. 🙂
