I loved that you touched on grip pressure Micah. It’s so key and I don’t think it’s talked about enough. Without a soft grip pressure on those longer clubs, you lose that lag, you get quick and it creates allot of weak contact.
I dig that you're explaining your process with your practice and not just running vlogs about look how low I can go. Cool stuff man! The rest of us really don't understand the struggle that is Texas wind
I keep and carry a 2-iron (vintage Northwestern "Chi Chi" Rodriguez Tournament) for a single hole on my local course. It's a 4 par 270 yard dogleg to the right with a split-rail fence and drainage ditch midway and trees out at 230 yards that block the sight of the green. I fire a 2-iron off a tee straight at the outer edge of the inside tree and it gets me over the fence and under the trees for a 7-iron up onto the (convex) green and a putt. If I two-putt it's still par. If I slice a bit it's a gamble to get through the tree branches/leaves and 50/50 I make it for a nice chip up on the green and a birdie. It also punches far and flat on windy days if I do my part. At the driving range I always fire a couple with the 2-iron. Another arrow in the quiver. I don't carry a 3-iron as that is overlapped with a 3-wood, 5-wood and a 21degree utility that I do carry.
Just watched this and went to the range. Had the best long iron session of my life. The soft grip pressure really was a gamechanger for me, the soft grip lets the club do the work. This is such a great video. Thanks Tig!
I've been a long iron guy all my life. 3W-Hybrid just don't work for me. Keep pounding that rock! You're an ambassador and great example of why we choose the clubs we choose.
Micah, I could not agree more, I also have the ZX Utility 2 iron and I and my playing partners will swear to you it is by far my most fun club to hit and a hammer to hit. I play in Oklahoma and at my course I use it off the tee and on par 5's a ton. I just recently went through my last 9 rounds of golf and hit that damned thing 39 times off the tee only (not counting any approaches) in those 9 rounds, and those 39 shots averaged in total 253yds. Best club I own sir!
Well done. Great explanation of ball placement. I just got a zx2. Took me about 4-5 balls to get a good ball placement. But I couldn't put it down. Lol. I was able to work the ball from left to right. Not trying to crush it yet. But was averaging 235 carry. For me being 60 years old.thought that was good enough for what I was putting into it. Now from the turf I was getting about 215 Carry. I do not like 3 woods or hybrid clubs. They just don't look right behind the ball for me. So this 2 iron I think is going to be fun! Thx for the information!
Awesome tutorial. The 2 iron is a tremendous skill. Really hard to not slice off for a lot of people with slower swing speed but a penetrating straight flight is pure gold especially off the tee. 3 wood or a hybrid can give you a nice high ball flight with some spin to try to attack a green from distance. Maybe consider a hybrid or a 5w for the club spot you have and to gap in that 230+ range.
Watching you crush your 2 iron the last few months gave me the confidence to hit my 4 iron more off the tee. (No 2 in the bag rn) Thanks for the video!
I hated my driving iron when I got it but, now I love it. I like it way better than my driver. The last 18 I played, the driver came out twice and that was it. Now that I'm comfortable with it, I hit it farther than all my buddies when they hit driver.
Great video! I think the emphasis on grip pressure and ball position here is so important especially with them long irons. I have a tendency to put my long irons almost as far forward as my three wood which causes a hook for me. Moving it more to the center (a couple of balls forward of center) has allowed my overall iron striking to become consistent and playable!
Just recently started hitting 2i with some pretty great success IMO. one thing that also helped me was actually teeing it up slightly to gain the confidence to "sweep" it . now I am hitting in out of fairways and slight rough anywhere from 230-250 with some solid accuracy, and even further off the tee. Really appreciate the thoughts and tips Tig!
I'm an advanced beginner and the 2 iron is my favorite long distance club on the fairway. I think it's just all the time I spent at the range practicing with my 6 and 8 iron that my swing just carried over to it well. Supposed to be a difficult club but found it easy and a great addition to my bag. I also use the hybrid instead of the driver when hitting off the tie as I'm almost always perfectly straight with a hybrid for about 200+ yards but I'm awful with the driver. With the driver I either slice, popup or way overshoot what I'm aiming for so I leave it in the bag unless I'm practicing with it. But on a 5 par course, I love the hybrid then 2 iron combination.
I’m a new golfer and have the same 2 iron, and I love it! For me it’s for long par 5’s as a second shot , or a short hard par 4 off the tee. I never get much air but it is a laser beam for me. My only issue is I’m a new golfer and have about a 40% whiff rate 😂
Picked up a Titleist u500 2 iron a few weeks ago. It’s already become one of my favorite clubs to tee off with. Especially on the first hole if you don’t want to hit driver but need some distance. Thanks for the tips!
I was wondering why I was struggling to hit my new taylormade stealth 4 Iron. Then realised that it's 18.5 degrees loft... that's a classic 2 iron! I needed this video!
Never thought I’d hit a 2-iron until I found my 5-iron going further than my hybrid. I found a pre-owned Taylormade SIM-UDI 2-iron with the Diamana Thump X-flex shaft, and I absolutely love it.
I really wanted a u505, but ended up grabbing a Sub70 699Upro because I couldn't beat the value, plus the loft was stronger (15 degrees). I needed something with a little offset because my Maltby was pushing right too much... it's my go-to off the tee club.
Been needing a longer iron for a while since my bag only goes down to a 5, definitely looking to add a 2 iron in heavy part thanks to your love for it!
I am very confused when I watch you swing. You swing well over 100 mph but it looks like you are swinging about 80. I am just amazed at how easy you swing that club. Ernie Els is called the big easy because of how he swings and your swing seems just as effortless as his. Thanks for this video.
Love what you said about the grip pressure and the patients at the top. That’s really worked for me on my five and four irons as well so absolutely great tips. Thanks Micha and good luck on your career. Pulling for you man!
I’m off to but my 2 iron. I’ve held off too long. Presently playing off scratch without a 2 iron but always fancied it having been brought up on Western Gailes in Scotland. Thanks loved the video!
Awesome video. I've been watching your play with the 2 and have got better with my 3. I'll probably get a 2 very soon. Also I really enjoy these videos at Frisco Lakes. My son and I just went out there to visit my Dad and brought our clubs. I had to play it once I saw #7 on one of your videos. Keep up the great content.
A great alternative to a 2 iron for golfers who don’t enjoy the speed and power that Micah has would be a 4 utility iron. Something in the 20-23° range. It gives you the same benefits that Micah is talking about with his 2 iron but in a club that has just a tad more loft which allows slower speed players to get the correct launch and spin to be able to get the most out of the club. Just my 2¢
Just got a Maltby 2 iron, I rockets off the tee with a good trajectory , way more forgiving that I ever thought it Could be. thought it would be harder to hit off the fairway than a hybrid but it isn't. I'm hooked.
I think I’m right in saying that you need to have a decent swing speed to hit a 2 iron, being a 64 year young woman my speed isn’t enough for a 3 wood so I’m assuming that a2 iron wouldn’t be any better?
Grip pressure is key especially with long irons. This is where loads of players falter with long irons. Another thing Swing over your shoulder to get more height on the finish of your swing.
You should try a 0 iron (11 degrees) I have one and tried it yesterday and wow. It was rolling out to about 280-290. Bang golf is the company and bang o matic is the iron name. A true stinger. I have been playing 25 years and there is nothing like it.
Would love to be able to have the ability to hit a 2-iron but my swing speed just wouldn’t agree. Plus the sim2 max’s I own have a 5-iron lofted at 21.5 degrees so there is no need to go any lower. Hybrids and woods are just easier to swing faster and control for me, but great video none the less! Love watching you stripe it.
I just bought a Zu65 2,,18* i'm very happy with the good shots,, just working on softer hands and a smooth fuller swing.. did a 230m (250y)this week. not bad for Autumn, its cold and a bit damp. and not bad for a 64 yr old.. I'm hoping to pick up a Mizuno pro 2 225 or hi fli iron ,, not sure of the diffrence in those,, but would loved to compare it to the Zu 63and see the differences.
When I hit my Wilson Staff 18 degree iron with xstiff KBS hybrid shaft well it’s absolutely the most fun club I own. However, my 20 degree hybrid goes in the bag more often because it’s way easier to hit consistently.
Micah, if you’re in the Ocala FL area & want to play Golden Ocala CC give me a shout. Beautiful course for content in the horse capital of the world. Hope to catch you in FL one of these days! Keep doing what you’re doing 👍🏼
Micah love you but as a club fitter I gotta disagree with "everyone" having one in their bag. Sure for someone that mashes the ball it makes total sense for a driving iron to be in the bag. But for the average golfer with speeds using a club like that (roughly 70-90 mph) a hybrid is much more effective. Unless you have consistent ball striking skill and speed, a driving iron will punish you greatly, even with people telling you how forgiving they are. The launch is generally too low, and they won't carry the ball far enough to make it effective even with roll out. A hybrid would fit the average golfer SO MUCH better with higher MOI and lower CG. I keep most of my fittings away from even having a 4 iron in the bag these days. I find that unless your ball striking is on point, your distance averages can vary too much with long irons punishing you in the long run. But on the other hand, if you have speeds over 90mph and can find the center of the face most of the time, sometimes a hybrid can launch and spin too high making it more effective to use a driving iron. Also that Ventus HB shaft is a 10TX I believe, that ain't no stiff!
My club head speed is between 115-120 with the driver and I don't use a 2 iron. I'm a low ball hitter and I found that a 5 wood does the job much better for me. I can hit a 5 wood much higher than a 2 iron.
I have the previous model of this in a 2 and 3 iron. They have replaced my fairway woods. Some of my favor clubs in the bag and my fairway finders off the tee
I have a 2 iron that the last owner put a shorter shaft in it and I’m not sure if I like it much. If hit in the middle it goes over 250 but if I tie it at all it goes like 100… so it’s a gamble I feel like.
I love my 2 iron as well! My driver isn't as accurate so i utilize my Taylormade 790UDI 2 iron with my hzrdus smoke black 6.5 shaft. I also have a 3 wood but I dont use that often either. My stock swing is also a high draw and our distances are pretty similar so i feel like I connect with you a lot. Keep up the good work and im rooting for ya 😊
I wish my Mizuno MP-20 2-iron sounded like that. I use mine more than my driver half the time bc it does roll forever, especially in the summer. I get a roll out of 285 with a 265 carry.
Would love to see micah with a 1 iron 🤯. This is the reason I personally picked a driving iron over a hybrid and I absolutely love it. A perfect fairway finder and goes a mile.
Hey Micah! Long time fan. I’ve recently seen that you use a Mizuno glove. I have Mizuno irons and a Mizuno bag, going to buy the ST200 3Wood next week as well. Somewhat of a brand fan boy but do you recommend the gloves? I work at a PGA Superstore and they are having a sale 2/$25 on their gloves! Would love your opinion on them. Thanks brotha keep it up!
Love your channel man, I'm really thinking about getting a driving iron now. Do you use it mainly for short holes and tee shots into the wind? I feel like it'd be hard for me to get it to fly like going into a par 5 unless you're into the wind.
have you hit a modern 2 iron? I thought the same thing as you then picked one up and was immediately striping the ball straight down the fairway, plus it is so forgiving. been hitting good off the tee and the fairway.
Thanks for the lesson brother. Love your content. Side note: I think your mic positioning was excellent. Good consistent sound and clarity ... One might say; it fits the bill (even though it's on the visor), like a duck .. \m/
The Hoofer Lite has been on sale lately and I've been thinking of picking one up. How do you like it? I keep reading about clubs catching and that's been turning me off.
If I could get one to try out as lefty I would love to try it. The only thing the store gives me when asking for a driving iron is a 4 which i already have...
Micah Morris and Golf Sidekick. The two best 2 iron salesmen in the world.

Bought a 2 iron because of the playa in chief. Got the new ZX which Micah has. Love it

Team 2 Iron here. Big thing for me with the 2 iron is a good controlled backswing and keep accelerating as you attack the ball. Good stuff
Even with the wind... that mic sounds great!
Big ups, I've been hittin a huge 3 iron for a while now. Sometimes I get in trouble with it to the left, love your commentary, helps me alot.
I got a 2 iron just because of you and it’s changed my game. Way better than just hitting driver only. Different options on the tee
High 70s and low 80s here in Florida! Gotta love it

I have the previous model of this in a 2 and 3 iron. They have replaced my fairway woods. Some of my favor clubs in the bag and my fairway finders off the tee
Thanks Micah, I needed this 🤙🏻

I love my 2 iron as well! My driver isn't as accurate so i utilize my Taylormade 790UDI 2 iron with my hzrdus smoke black 6.5 shaft. I also have a 3 wood but I dont use that often either. have you hit a modern 2 iron? I thought the same thing as you then picked one up and was immediately striping the ball straight down the fairway, plus it is so forgiving. been hitting good off the tee and the fairway.
I have a 2 hyrbid. It fuking rips. But I hit it as far as my 5 wood. Just a backup in shit situations and not a good lie for 5 wood
I have a 2 iron ping crossover and it’s amazing. 240 roll out fairway finder. Long iron are very easy to get a ham gong as long as you simplify it.
Thank you, great tips.
What shaft is it exactly? What’s the weight? Thanks!
Thanks for the lesson brother. Love your content.
Side note:
I think your mic positioning was excellent. Good consistent sound and clarity ... One might say; it fits the bill (even though it's on the visor), like a duck .. \m/
hey Micah...why stiff shaft? I thought you had xstiff in your woods?
That’s what I was wondering
I doubt it’s a stiff
@@beckettjones8564 he literally said it was in the video..
The shaft is a Ventus Black 9TX, not stiff. He misquoted the flex.
The Hoofer Lite has been on sale lately and I've been thinking of picking one up. How do you like it? I keep reading about clubs catching and that's been turning me off.
Micah loves his 2 iron like nothing else
Great looking swing,
Would love to know the mic setup your using in this video
what is the shaft of his ZX Utility 2 Iron? And what is length? Thank you.
You stripe it almost as good as Matt Shart 🤙
The bob ross of golf!
such a soothing voice haha
Im an okay golfer and play with a 2 iron and blades both taylormade tour preferred’s
What should a high handicapper do if they need a fair way finder like a 2 iron
Do you hit a bit of a fade with it with an open stance?
Great tutorial, but throwing the ball tracer on there would help tremendously.
Team 2 Iron here……. Tempo & grip pressure are everything with long irons.
If I could get one to try out as lefty I would love to try it. The only thing the store gives me when asking for a driving iron is a 4 which i already have...
My favourite club in my bag
I use a two hybrid. I don't have enough club head speed for 2 iron
