7:20 I would have a hard time dragging my bike & luggage like that & still have the energy to pick it up afterwards. I started on your "packing the bike" vid. Now binge watching the trip! Love what you're doing, I'm planning the TAT for '22 on my CRF250L.
Good luck brother. Enjoy the riding. I just returned from across the country last week. I went from my home outside Atlanta straight to Silverton CO to ride parts of the COBDR and the passes. Great trip. I too encountered extreme heat most of the way, but something that helped me significantly was that I soaked my jacket and moisture wicking shirt in water every 1.5 to 2 hours and continued to drink water and I was pretty comfortable despite the 95 to 100 degree temps. I ride a R1200GS adventure with a seargent seat so to prevent chaffing, I only wet the thigh part of my pants and took my jacket and shirt off to soak. This evaporative cooling method really works as long as you're moving more than 15 MPH. You might try that for a bit. Looking forward to the rest of the report.
Finished TAT from Virginia this August. ...your Warloop Road is mostly a dry river bed and tough but relatively short. I bombed through there on the DR650 without a drop only to find a huge nail in my rear tire at the end. A hot repair at the end of the day. Made it into Fayetteville, AR at dark. Good report. Enjoying it.
Warloop was a well used road when I was in high school. Around 2002 to 04 I drove it daily to see a friend of mine, was concrete almost half way up road and super smooth. Now it's a damn minefield of boulders lol
I like the narration during your trip. So many guys just show hours of riding and music, gets a little drawn out doing just that, I think. I suggest watching “buck abroad”. Alaska to South America and back for some idea of what I am talking about. Kids were very cool! Most are always friendly especially when you have a camera. Toured on cycles for a lot of years. Great fun if you are careful! Important to do these things BEFORE you are married, unless you hook up with a gal that likes to ride with you. You find one of those, keep her, she’s about one in million! Happy riding. Note: I don’t want to hear you complaining about it’s to cold! Just kidding!
Being from southeast Texas, I'm painfully aware of the heat. I just returned from trip to California. Planned it this time of year bc of the heat. Hoped to avoid some of it and did, however at over 100° I still melted. You're brave to attack the southern trail in the summer. Btw... each video is better than the one before. Safe travels !!!
@Pierre Eversole @ Eric Fling Riding in such hot temps you should try a CycleChillers. Circulates ice water around a vest under your coat to KEEP YOU COOLER. Eric, you did a great job of sharing your experience - thanks!.
These are awesome. I feel like you are editing these videos better and better every episode. Very cool man. I plan on doing the Florida to Alaska trip eventually with my friend soon enough as well! Keep up the great work
NewYorkLego Hi NewYorkLego, Florida to Alaska is one of my dreams too, what ride you have and your friend? What will be your budget for the round trip? I never did a huge trip like that. I live in Miami, Sorry for the questions and thanks
Albert Espinoza Still at the drawing board for the right bike. Thinking of a Ducati Multistrada 1000. I’ve always loved those bikes. No idea on budget but will try to camp along the side of the road as much as possible without stopping for lodging. I’m going for more an Easy Rider style trip. Hopefully you have already watched that movie lol
Great Video, I just came in from working on my XR650L having a cold one. Do you have the Lithium battery conversion? If so have you had any problems? I will put you in my favorites and keep track of your trips. Out here in AZ it is a dry heat, but I have been back in Ohio and Penn. and the humidity can get thick. Beautiful, thank you for posting.
Yes I did the battery relocation mod. Had a shoei battery for years but upgraded to the 8cell Antigravity battery before the trip. No problems with it at all. I also didn't even have to shorten the cables, just wrapped them around under the seat area.
@@DaddyEric222 Thank you for the reply. I picked up another XR650 with a ton of mods ( see my channel ) and I'm swapping the trick stuff over to my XR650. The battery relocation is one of them. I did watch your bike set up after I had sent you a message Thank you again.
Solid commentary. I’ve seen folks with just mesh-and-armored shirts. Your experience gives more significance to that option. I presume the hot road to four falls was Warloop Rd? Also, I’ve found one gets a better expression of how steep something is when the camera is mounted on the bike. Our heads adjust to the angle making the camera view look flat.
Searching for 6th Gear Yes Warloop Rd. Exactly, mounted on my head the road doesn’t even look that bad. But plenty of those rocks were a foot tall and many of the crevices could swallow the front tire. It was tricky for sure!
@@DaddyEric222 We rode up Mount Washington last year. Try as I might, there just wasn't a good way to capture how steep it was. I'm thinking of positioning a drone off to the side of the steeper sections of the Colorado passes, the only problem is finding a place to park the bike, launch the drone, park the bike and recover the drone, esp. doing it solo like you are. The other option is to put the camera on the bike and only keep footage that isn't too shaky from bouncing around on the rocks. There is a set of videos called "The Great Continental Divide 2017" where they made commendable use of their drone.
Did you finish? what month were you riding in? I'm not seeing any video east of Arkansas? I remember that little downhill rock section in Arkansas. Tune-up for what awaits you in Colorado and Utah...
What maps were you using? Sam's or GPS Kevin? Judging from your video, there wasn't anything neccesarily difficult until you reached that sketchy road in Arkansas that crashed a few times. Is that a correct assumption? I'm looking to do the eastern section in the spring with my kids. Did you feel that 4wd was even needed up until that point? Thanks.
Some of the appellation mountain sections get pretty narrow but small trucks can make it through normally. But yes most of the roads are not hard. If you follow Sams easy route, you'll be in store for some really beautiful roads as well. I used Sams maps.
Dude, at 10:04 I see you diverted right past the TAT Stop! Man, you missed one of the best TAT check-in locations of all. Next time stop and see Percy.
Ya I should have done some more research on were exactly I was going. That is why I wished I bought the paper maps, easier to reference and mark on for planning.
Ya, but I'm from Florida... I was however not used to wearing a giant black Gortex jacket. Thats what put the heat over the edge for me, shoulda had a mesh jacket for the south.
Hey just stumbled onto your videos. Hope to get on your level someday with the filming. Keep up the good work man!!!! Maybe if you get a free minute check out my fledgling motovlog channel haha
Dude, you make us you tube watching, craigslists dreamering, lawnmower riding mid lifers want to find a bike that we know nothing about just to get lost and hope to come home to a wife that has filed a divorce.
Thanks! And basically because I'm young, and everything is digital. Roll charts seemed a bit too old. I wished I had the paper maps! But I never wanted the roll charts. In fact my speedometer actually broke for the first couple days so that would have made it really hard to use the roll charts.
Great job, Eric. Keep the videos coming. Did a few sections of the TAT this year myself, WV & VA. Going to do the MABDR next year.
Hang in there brother. Enjoying all your videos. I am planning the TAT for next September. Thanks and God Bless!
very cool Eric your doing what I keep planning
I really enjoy your videos, eric! Brings back memories of my own TAT trip in 2018!
Glad to hear it! I hope to do it again one day!

i cant waite to do this part of the trans, i hear the passes are just breath taking!.

Thanks, your video is more than just pretty pictures, but giving some realism to biking.
Very informative. Nice work!
Great job Erik. Would love to do that. I would have to go with someone experienced. Awesome scenery. Keep up the good job. Stay safe and healthy.

Thank you again.
That was Greers Ferry Dam outside Heber Springs, Arkansas. I grew up around there. Still have a farm just north of the lake.
That last road it makes it a lot better if you let some air out of your tires but then you have to worry about pinch flats
Ya if I was thinking straight I should have run like 10-12psi through there.
Hope all is well with you! I guess you are working for the next trip. Travel takes money. Happy adventures.

Just found you and really enjoying the videos
I've rode most of the South East on this bike. May-August are good riding months. Humidity will get you
Dammm
That Mississippi heat is rough.
Props to everyone who lives out there..
🙏💪👏👍🇺🇸
good job of loving those children!
spread the love, and you'll receive more than you can imagine! They were all very sweet, and curious lol
Rocks like that are tough, especially when you’re wiped out from the heat and humidity!
Hey can you post a video, describing the routing of your oil cooler. And the carb from a diffrent bike.
Keep them coming.
Lol when you said Florida was hot, I just laughed and thought that you have never been to Mississippi or Louisiana in the summer 😂
I have 2 rode bikes. Would love to go on a long trip.
Looks like War Loop trail/road? Right past Oark Store?
Yep, that's the one!
Did you finish? what month were you riding in? I'm not seeing any video east of Arkansas? I remember that little downhill rock section in Arkansas. Tune-up for what awaits you in Colorado and Utah...
Haven't had time to edit yet. Yes I finished, late august-late sept time frame.
Good stuff!!

It's very difficult for someone for a northern climate to breath in a hot humid area.
Or for someone born and raised in the south. This year has been extra brutal
Ya, but I'm from Florida... I was however not used to wearing a giant black Gortex jacket. Thats what put the heat over the edge for me, shoulda had a mesh jacket for the south.
Force field body armor over moisture wicking T-shirt is much better than mesh jacket
@@Jimbo4575 Ya that would work, I think my Klim induction would have worked as well.
I bought a vest that you soak in water in this heat works great.
Welcome to Arkansas.
Everyone thinks their state is hot in the summer til they come to the south!
What gps app are you using?
MotionX-GPS
they call me STANK lmfaoooo
Riding in high heat is torture, much rather ride in 50 degree than 90 degree.
Little did he know he damaged his bags :D
🌹🍹☕ Beautiful. Kisses from Canada💋🌹🍹
Yo chain too tight .

Just curious Eric why no roll charts? Sam seems to promote their use I thought. Great videos btw 👏🏼
