My wife replaced the pump on her C30 today, with my assistance. As mentioned in a previous comment, the reservoir didn't fall down as in the video. We inspected reservoirs for sale and noticed a small white hook on the inside, so using a screwdriver we managed to release this from its slot and it came out fine. I think some may use brute force and break the hook. Anyway this might help some! Next job sorting out the passenger airbag light!
Excellent video 👍 Watched this and replaced the pump on my father-in-law's C30. I re-used the original rubber filter/seal that the pump nozzle pushes into. (The new pump just had a seal with a large hole but no filter). Worse bit was refitting the wheel arch liner as in some places it has to be sandwiched between the wheel arch edge trim and the bodywork. Saved my FIL a few quid on garage labour. Thanks!!!! 💪
Fantastic, I managed to replace my screen wash pump after watching the video, this video was a saving to me of £120 as that’s what ‘HFDs’ we’re quoting me to replace the pump. Again great detailed
well that was one entertaining little video stayed to the end just for the craic I won't be cutting the Old motor open but I think I will buy a new one before I even start, mine is an S40 but I imagine they are somewhat similar. all the best from your fan base in Ireland
Thanks for the interesting video. Depending on the direction of the impeller, the pressure is slightly larger in the front or rear nozzles output port of the pump body. The side with the highest pressure will push the white membrane shown at the end of the video so it blocks the fluid that would otherwise go in the other side. I still wonder why the impeller is assymetrical. Maybe fluctuating pressure has some useful purpose?
Pleased you enjoyed it and to hear it isn't just me that needs to know, You are right. the higher pressure side closes the output to the lower pressure side. Stabbed my hand getting that bloody thing to bits. Wish I had spun up the motor.
Excellent video on how to do it! The washer pump on my V50 just decided to die today so I already know what's keeping me busy the coming weekend. At least it survived until I got the MOT a few days ago, haha
@DennisDe. Hi mate, how old is your V50? Mine is 12 years old, and it's just give up today. The pump was struggling to wash the front screen yesterday, and no washing at all to the rear. Do you have headlight washers too, and if so, does this pump operate those, or is it a seperate pump, as this pump only has 2 outlets by the look of it? Cheers.
@@carinebondu8420 Yeah thanks. One pump for the front and rear. It is located above the o/s wheel arch, which means removing the wheel and arch liner and washer reservoir to replace it. The pump is attached to the reservoir, but is easy to replace once the reservoir is removed. Just make sure you note what nozzles the hoses connect to.
Ive replaced mine as well when it certainly decided to die. My tank did NOT drop down. It was stuck. Don't understand on what or why. Maybe yours was replaced already. I remember that the hose was on the top on those plastic clips. Now i have a bad leak and i don't know where it comes from. I have a pool of washer fluid right in front of wheel. It pours out when freezing cold outside so i think there must be some kind of crack in those plastic valves/connectors near the right washer unit on the bumper. Just a guess. There was so much fluid that also freezed strangely. It was like "slush" built up on the edge of the under engine cover and edge of wheel weld or what it calls. It shouldn't freeze since i always mix 50/50 that are -30 celsius and we never get so cold.. maximum like 24.. or such. Don't know how to diagnose since it only apply leaking in the winter as far as i know. Maybe take engine cover of, take wheel weld of, take the right side bumper of and inspect the hose. Maybe activate headlight washer pump via VIDA and see if there are any visible fluid leaks somewhere. Don't think i can pressurize with compressed air somehow? My nozzles also do not retract them self in sometimes so i need to push them in manually. What can be the failing part here? Maybe that leak are causing them to not do that.. maybe a bad spring that clogs up or stucks.. No springy feeling when pushing them in though. Thats strange. I guess i might need to replace the whole unit/assembly. Easy to do and cheap to buy used ones. Please help with hints, tips, suggestions. About the leak situation. Must be a major leak. Something opens up.
Take the wheel arch out and fill the tank and see where it is leaking from. It should be quite obvious. Then fix the leak with silicone or rearrange the seals, check the pipe connections etc. Don't give up you can find it and fix it!
My washers or the windscreen have suddenly stopped spaying yet the headlamps are still working. Pump works fin. Alo when I'e filled the washers there's been a leak, so I guess it is a loose pipe connection for the windscreen washers, how I'm not a DIY man and don't even have a set of screwdrivers, so think it will be off to the garage. This look a right faff.
@@adamcarolan5884 I spoke to a local garage, one that I trust, and they wouldn’t do anything until the weather gets warmer. It’s also going in at the same time to sort out a few other niggling issues, wobble drivers door mirror, occasionally heavy power steering and a sticky rear handbrake. Once it’s done I’ll post back here. But they say it isn’t a lot of work for the washers. The motor still works and up until the reservoir not keeping any fluid the headlamp washers were working fine. They think it’s either a perished washer or tube to the windscreen. But as it’s all hidden behind the wheel arch, we will have to wait and see.
@@MaximilianvonPinneberg fixed it there the other day, turns out there's two separate pumps for the headlights and other washers. I wouldn't bother having a mechanic do it, I got it done in under and hour with hand tools and the standard jack.
This will be my next step but for now checking the fuses do you know what fuses will be the culprate I've changed 48 in the cabin but is the head lamp washer also run the same fuse should I try change this ?
Have you checked the motor? Headlamp and window washers uses the same pump. i.e. there is only one pump. If you cant find a blown fuse then you are going to have to check / replace the pump.
@@razenby that is my next step haha just looks like a ballache so trying the fuses first but I've checked them all so think the pump will be the next job 😂
I believe that there isn't a separate pump but a valve that directs the pressure from the windscreen washer feed to the headlight washers. Ill have a look on mine later. Perhaps you can find it by tracing the windscreen washer feed pipe back to the tank area to see if you can find the valve in the pipe, Not 100% sure at the moment. If I discover anything i'll let you know.
@@razenby Thanks, the water supply comes from the same tank for sure. Wondered if there is an inline boost pump ii the hose that is fed from a Tee/valve as you suggest. I have water dribbling leaking from my headlamp washer assembly jets, draining the tank, if as you say there is a valve (electric?) staying open that could explain it!
The rears work by reversing the pump polarity (direction). Disconnected, blocked or kinked pipe or blocked rear washer jet. If you don't hear the pump running when your try to squirt out the rear then suspect the dash switch or wiring. Easy to check the motor functionality with a couple of wires and a 12 power supply.
@@razenby thanks for the detailed reply, unfortunately I was being stupid and simply forgot that I have to push the stalk for the rear window lmao. I'm sure this can help someone in future though. Thanks again for the video

It could be that a higher pressure is needed because of the distance the fluid needs to travel to the rear of the car.
